Two AAA batteries power this baby which are easily inserted into their housing at the base of the toy which is accessible through its screw on cap. If you're like me and have trouble working out which way up to put the batteries in, you'll be glad to know that with the Voyage it doesn't matter! As long as each battery faces a different direction it will work. I absolutely love this feature and wish more toys were created this way.
Controlled by a simple dial located at the very base of the toy, it's simple and intuitive to use. Turn it one way to turn on and increase the intensity of the vibrations, turn it the other way to decrease them and turn the toy off. As there's no on/off switch I strongly recommend removing the batteries in between uses to prevent it accidentally being turned on, especially if you are travelling.
When it comes down to the vibrations I found them to be more buzzy surface vibrations as opposed to deeper rumbling ones. These buzzing vibes travel well right through to the tip and vary between light and a medium high intensity. I don't feel like there's much variety between the levels and there is only the one, constant pattern of vibrations. They aren't strong enough to get me off, but that may just be my personal preferences, they are however very successful for warming up and getting those juices flowing. It's got the same kind of power as a basic style bullet vibe, but the vibrations, whilst travelling well through the silicone, are severely dampened by it at the same time.
I found it to be great for thrusting, but its size and shape meant it isn't very useful for G Spot stimulation. It is also great for external stimulation of the labia as well as other erogenous areas such as the nipples, or even just slowly sliding it down your partners neck and back. For me it wasn't so great for clitoral stimulation due to the vibrations not being intense enough for me, but again that is simply personal preference and I am sure that others who like a lower level of vibrations will be able to take great pleasure from it.
As for sound levels it can't be heard through a closed door and is just audible if you are covered up by your blankets or doonah. Its low sound level and the easy to switch of dial make it suitable for those living in shared accommodation as well as those with children.
Now to the fatal flaw. The battery cap is a twist on, twist off deal. This same cap is where the twisting control is situated. The cap screws on tightly to create what I found to be a waterproof seal (Please note that the toy is labelled as being only Water resistant), but it wouldn't switch on with the cap fully closed let alone with it tightly closed. Initially I figured I'd gotten the batteries oriented incorrectly, so I tried switching them around, yet still no joy.
The only way I could get the Voyage to vibrate was with the end cap half unscrewed. As the control dial is located in the cap having it half on, half off meant that during use it would constantly switch off. Talk about kill joy! It was very difficult to use even when kept on one speed, attempting to alter the intensity of the vibrations was impossible. Every attempt to do so ended up causing the vibrations to stop. The only way I could test the range of vibration intensities was to do so by setting it to the various levels before insertion and again against my wrist.
Even if it is water resistant as the packaging says there's no way I could take this in the shower, having the end cap half unscrewed would lead to water streaming into it.
Mine may have been defective and no other reviewers have had the same issue, but for me it just killed it.
I have nothing but praise for Eden and their super fast international delivery
