The Royal G by California Exotic was my first g-spot toy, and I was very excited to receive it. It comes in a clear plastic “clamshell” type package, but the edges are not sealed so you won’t have to spend an hour trying to get the damn thing open. The first thing I noticed when I opened it was the smooth rubbery texture of the TPR and the four wide ribs on the shaft of the toy. Its size wasn’t anything to write home about, but it looked like it would satisfy. I had to bring it right to my nose to smell anything, but there was a very slight chemical scent, nothing too alarming. I opened the base and to my surprise, a little battery holder slid out. It’s nothing fancy, just a little plastic sleeve for two AA batteries. This has come in really handy because I don’t have to fumble getting them in, just one fell swoop and I’m good to go. There aren’t any indications as to what direction the batteries go in, so here’s the tutorial for that. They go in positive end first, both in the same direction. Then just screw the base back on (duh). At the end of the base is a smaller dial which controls the speed. I’ve had other dial base toys that didn’t have separate dials for controlling and opening, and it would always pop open when I was using it. Not so with this one.

I warmed up with the Royal G on my clit. The vibrations are centered in the bend of the shaft, so the tip is great for clitoral stimulation. Although it is dial-controlled, there seemed to be three main speeds with a smooth transition in between. They ranged from nice and mild to strong enough to get me off…which it did. It's fairly quiet, except on the highest setting.

When it came to using it for its true purpose, I was surprised by how different it felt. I wasn’t at all used to g-spot stimulation, especially not the vibrating kind, so I decided to take it slow and without vibrations. After lubing up (I’d recommend water based lube. Some silicone toys don’t get along well with silicone based lube), I slid it inside and started stroking my g-spot with it. It felt great, and the first two ridges teased the opening of my vagina. When I wanted to thrust deeper, I got to feel the second two ridges. I found what felt the best was alternating between deeper and shallow strokes. Once I was more comfortable with my new toy, I turned on the vibrations. They felt amazing at first, but soon I was overwhelmed with the feeling that I had to pee (a very common “side effect” of g-spot stimulation). I ended up being so distracted by it that I just stopped. After a few more tries, I’ve gotten a little more used to it. The key is to relax.

The Royal-G is waterproof, but I haven’t gotten a chance to test this feature out yet.

One thing that I have noticed is since I received it, the TPR has developed some small divots and streaks in it. Nothing major, just something to note. Although it’s a silicone compound, it doesn’t seem like very high quality material, so I attribute it to that.

Some house keeping points: The Royal G cannot be sterilized, so use a condom if you’re going to share it. Otherwise, you can clean it with antibacterial toy cleaner or mild soap and water. As I mentioned before, I wouldn’t recommend using silicone lube with it. If that’s all you have then do a spot test on it first. I would not recommend this as an anal toy, as it doesn’t have a flared based. Finally, this toy is a big lint/dust magnet, but if you keep the original packaging, it makes a nice case for it.

I recommend this toy for those who are experienced in g-spot stimulation or interested in becoming experienced. If you fall into the latter category (like me), have patience and this toy will be rewarding. I like it a little better every time I use it, so I’ll definitely be writing a follow-up review once the Royal G and I get to know each other better. At this point, I would give it 3.5 stars if that was an option.
Follow-up commentary
While the Royal G often makes its way to the bottom of my toy box, it's definitely the toy I grab if I'm looking for some shower time fun. A rubber ring creates a water-tight seal, protecting the battery compartment. I've also found that the rubber ring holds up well when the toy is completely submerged.

The g-spot orgasm still eludes me, but to no fault of this toy.

Though the Royal G isn't an absolute favorite of mine, I still consider it a good vibrator and would recommend it to those starting their toy box.

Thanks for the thorough and useful review! I would definitely stick to only using water-based lubes with this toy because of the silicone content. Enjoy!
