Beginners: explore your limits with the Adonis Explorer

The Adonis Explorer is a great vibe for beginners seeking to explore the sensations they like. It is good for either penetration (vaginal, not anal) or clitoral stimulation. The variable speeds and vibration patterns ensure the variety necessary to get you to the finished line. The batteries are long lasting and the toy both looks great and works well. I liked the overall look and feel and was very pleased with this toy. It is now my go-to toy for solo quickies.

Adonis Explorer Full View
The Adonis is truly a sight to behold. I spent a good 5 minutes just staring at it wondering what to do once I unboxed it. It is billed as a 10 speed G-spot vibrator, but it could easily double as a regular neck massager given its huge size. It is 8 inches in length with a circumference (5 3/4") that exceeds the insertable length (5 1/2"). It is truly impressive, massive, black and heavy.

It is possible to stimulate both the G-spot and the clitoris (using the ridges along the base), however I found this uncomfortable for prolonged periods of time due to the ergonomics, heft, and size of the toy. It is an adequate G-spot vibrator, but the vibrations might not be strong enough for some women. I preferred it as a clitoral and labial stimulator and found the variable speeds quite pleasant for that task. Most beginners should be pleased with the variable settings and power.

I have travelled with the Adonis, but due to the noise level and heft, I prefer to leave it at home for solo play with an empty house.

Material / Texture

The vibe is made of silicone that is soft to the touch and has a nice matte black finish. I also liked the sleek chrome accents. The vibe looks sleek and has an interesting egg/billy club shape to it. It has been discovered by others on numerous occasions after I have carelessly left it within sight after playing. Most people thought it was either:
a) a flashlight
b) a microphone
c) a billy club
c) a mini baseball bat

The silicone has no odor and is soft to the touch, though the overall vibe was both rigid underneath and rather heavy. The material is bodysafe and easy to clean. The base is made of matching black plastic and might potentially crack if exposed to prolonged heat or sunlight or dropped on a hard surface.
    • No odor
    • Not porous at all

Design / Shape / Size

The Adonis Explorer comes in a sleek, futuristic club shape. It is easy to grasp and has an on/off button flush with the base of the toy. It is easy to turn on with the push of a thumb--too easy. I found it was easily activated during sleep if I left it under a pillow or in between cushions of the sofa.

The club presumably is supposed to be easy to insert, however the sheer size, heft, and girth of this toy made it rather intimidating at first. I preferred it as a clitoral vibe rather than a G-spot stimulator.

I have taken the toy along on one or two trips. I got a few raised eyebrows from TSA, but that's it. The toy did turn on once in my carry-on luggage when another item pressed the button. After that, I learned to remove the batteries.

I would recommend this vibe for beginners due to the variety of settings. Everyone is sure to find a favorite setting. The on-off button also has a nice pleasant soft glow.

Functions / Performance / Controls

Adonis Explorer LED Push Button
The Adonis Explorer has 10 changeable settings. They range from fast, medium, and light vibrations, pulsing, escalating, pulse-pause-pulse, long vibration-pause, short vibration-pause, short vibration-long vibration, and the reverse: long vibration-short vibration. You can change the settings by pushing an oval button on the side of the base with your thumb. This is also the same button you use to turn it on and off. To turn it off, you just hold down the button until it powers down. The button lights up and is easy to push--almost too easy. Many a time I have accidentally pressed the button after finding just the right setting for my mood only to be disappointed by having to cycle back through all the settings to get back to my preferred sensation. That is a mood killer.

I also found the vibe is easily activated under other circumstances. Many times guests have turned it on by mistake by simply leaning back on the sofa cushions. (I sometimes keep it there for quick, easy access.) It has also turned itself on in the middle of the night under my pillows leading me to have nightmares about killer bees.

The vibe makes efficient use of the batteries. I haven't had to change mine yet, and I use this toy fairly often. It is a rather noisy toy. I do not use it when I have non-amorous company over for fear of disturbing them. I have not tried to immerse it in water, though I do wash it with soapy water with no problems.
    • Lots of variety in function
    • Multiple settings
    • Strong patterns

Care and Maintenance

Adonis Explorer Battery Compartment
I like to give mine an immediate wipe down with my designated wipes, then when I cool off I give it a light wash (exterior "club" portion only) with soap and water followed by a wipe with alcohol. I generally do not trust waterproof claims of toys. I like this toy, so I'm seeking to preserve it. Despite the manufacturer's claims it is safe, I would not place this toy in very hot water (ie. the dishwasher or boiling pot) due to the plastic base.

If I know I will not be using the toy for more than a few days, I remove the batteries to avoid corrosion. The Adonis Explorer requires 3 AAA batteries. I always keep a fresh supply...for my TV remote controls, ahem.
    • Easy to clean

Packaging

Adonis Explorer Packaging
The Adonis Explorer came in minimal paperboard packaging with photos of the toy on the outside. The packaging is not discreet at all and did not seem sturdy enough to protect the item. This was my only disappointment with the order. I would have preferred a sturdier, more discreet box that had more of a feel of "luxury" befitting the price of this vibe.

Personal comments

I liked the look of the toy, the feel of the silicone, and the sleek futuristic design. I also enjoyed the little light show given by the LED light at the base of the toy when you cycled through certain settings.
