Charlie, You're Making Me Hot!!

My affair with Charlie Tango was a regret. He built up so much excitement, teasing my nipples and clit in all the right ways, but then left me hanging when he got too hot.

Use

Fifty Shades of Grey Charlie Tango is a classic battery operated vibrator by LoveHoney. Charlie Tango is meant for vaginal or external stimulation only. It is a wonderful tease on nipples, clit and other erogenous zones, but can also be used for penetration both solo and/or with a partner. There is no flared based, so this is not recommended anal play.

Charlie Tango is completely waterproof, so you can use him while in the bath or shower!

If you're a fan of the Fifty Shades of Grey series, you may be inclined to purchase this just for the brand.

The included manual recommends "Use as a part of solo play or as an accessory to your shared pleasure...Start off with the slowest speed and work your way up to the more powerful settings."

Personally, I can only see ever using Charlie Tango again as a tease or foreplay toy, but I'll get to why later on in this review.

Material / Texture

Charlie Tango is made out of shiny, smooth, silver plastic. Plastic is an 8 on the EF safety scale because it is food-grade material, hypo-allergenic, latex free, and phthalates free. It is also non-porous. There is no smell or taste to the toy.

This is a hard plastic, meaning it is very rigid. There is no bending it at all.

Charlie Tango does not have any texture, and is perfect for beginners.

Design / Shape / Size

Charlie Tango is a "classic" style vibrator. According to EF, its measurements are:
Color: Black / Silver
Length: 7 1/4"
Insertable length: 5 1/2"
Circumference: 3 1/4"
Diameter: 1"
Weight: 4.4 oz

Charlie Tango is battery operated (2 AA batteries).

The side of the silver shaft has "Charlie Tango" written in a cursive font that was printed on. I can imagine this would very easily wear off after extended use/long period of time.

The black base of the vibrator has "Fifty Shades of Grey" printed on in white.

As a classic vibrator, this is very basic. There is no texture or curvature. The size is pretty beginner friendly.

I wouldn't consider this discreet unless you've been hiding under a rock for the last two decades and haven't seen one of these classic vibrator styles.

Functions / Performance / Controls

Charlie Tango is very limited on function. He only has one type of vibration: a steady buzz. His base has a turner to adjust vibration speed, but that is the only adjustment that can be made. The control is easily moved during use, especially if you keep your hand on the base and thrust.

The vibrations are mainly located towards the tip of the toy. I didn't really get a numbing sensation in my hand from keeping it on the base during use.

Charlie Tango is a bit of a battery guzzler at the highest setting. He is also loud...Loud enough that even under a sheet and my door closed I heard "Hey Sydney, having a good time in there?" followed by giggles from my roommate. He's not as loud as a Hitachi, but he isn't quiet either by any means.
    • Easy to use
    • Not enough variety

Care and Maintenance

Charlie is made out of plastic, which means he is safe for use with water, oil, or silicone based lubes.

Cleaning Charlie is a breeze though. He can be wiped down with a toy cleaner, a bleach/water mixture, soap and water, or alcohol.

Charlie is super easy to store: He came with his own silvery-grey satiny bag! Outside of the bag, he does like to roll around a lot, so be careful if you toss him out of bed before sleep and then get up in the dark.

Packaging

Charlie Tango arrives in a flimsy grey box with "Fifty Shades of Grey" written on the front.

The back of the box has a short passage from the novel, an outline drawing of the vibrator, plus a description of it.

Upon opening the box, there is a fold out manual about the product, a satiny bag, and a very flimsy plastic holder for Charlie Tango.

The fold out manual has a saucy description on how to use the toy on the outside, and the inside includes instructions for how to insert batteries and use the toy in English, French, German and Spanish. The description for use is actually pretty nice-it has multiple ideas for how to use it solo and with a partner, and is very beginner friendly.

The satin storage bag that is included is not at all padded, and reads "Fifty Shades of Grey" on the outside.

Personal comments

Charlie Tango and I are not going to end up long term friends. He was fun for a night, but that's all that he's sticking around for.

I had two big gripes about him:
1-He got hot. Fast. Not just warm, but hot. I stopped using him once he heated up as he was too hot for me to use him comfortably.
2-He just didn't pack enough bang. I found his vibrations on the "meh" side, especially since there is no texture to him at all.

Experience

Charlie Tango was lacking quite a bit for me. I wasn't able to get off using him before he got too hot for me to use comfortably. I haven't tried him with a partner, but I would imagine that the only time he'd come back to bed would be as a tease during foreplay.

Like I mentioned before, Charlie is pretty loud. His noise level wasn't distracting though (I have this problem from time to time with other vibrators in my toy box).

Great review, sorry that it was a disappointment. I hate when they're loud and get hot.

Sad that it gets hot so quick, you'd think they would fix that before putting it up for sale.

Excellent review! I can't imagine how uncomfortable it would be for a vibrator to get actually hot - I mean, uncomfortably warm is bad enough, but no burns for my cha-cha, thank you very much. Also, kudos to your roommate for at least being funny about it.

Great review. Am I wrong - I always thought your toys were supposed to get you hot not the other way around. Thanks for the warning, I will be passing on this overheating fellow.
