Deep Purple Midnight

This is a great new vibrator from Trojan. Its materials are top-of-the-line, and its vibrations are pretty strong (though more surface than deep). Those of you looking for quiet and discreet might want to reconsider this vibrator. It is pretty loud and more than a little distracting while in use. However, its soft quality and interchangeable heads make it a worthy massager for those curious and possibly wanting to explore different sensations.

Use

This toy is a vibrator, in the style of a hand-held pocket rocket. It is meant for external use only, but it could be used for very shallow internal stimulation as well. I would not specifically recommend it for anal play- while there is a slight flare to the toy, I do not believe it is dramatic enough to prevent slipping and taking a trip to ER.

There are three interchangeable heads to the toy which will offer a variety of stimulation. Those wanting hard, pinpoint, soft, diffuse, or textured sensations will all enjoy this toy.

People with roommates should pass this toy over. People hoping to use this only in the shower setting should also pass this over (but I'll get to that point in a bit).

Material / Texture

I have read packaging up and down, and the base of the toy is not listed material-wise. I can tell you, from the looks of it, the base part of the toy is made of a luxuriously velvet-cote plastic.
The tips of the toy are listed as soft, pliable medical-grade silicone. One of the tips is simply hard plastic (this is the "default" top and offers harder, unyielding sensations).

I think everyone will find the materials and textures on this toy enjoyable. The body is lovely to hold and very soft to the touch. The interchangeable tops are easy to screw on and off, and they offer a wide range of sensation: soft, pinpoint, textured, hard, broad.

The toy has no odor to it, as it is packaged in plastic and the tips are nice, non-porous silicone.
Unfortunately, the tips do pick up lint rather easily.

Design / Shape / Size

This is a hand-held external vibrator, which is listed in the instruction manual as intended for use on the clitoris and other "external erogenous zones."

What you get with this vibrator is a contoured body, which is easy to hold, and a tip that can be screwed on (and off, when you change them and switch them). The body fits really comfortably in my hand, I had my partner hold this as well (he's bigger than me), and he found it to be easy to hold as well.

There are two buttons at the bottom of the vibrator, located where you would stand it up if you wanted to. One is marked (+) and the other (-). You can easily press down the buttons and they are not at all difficult to master and are very intuitive. (More on how to use them below). The only branding on the toy is found engraved in the bottom, under the buttons (saying "TROJAN" of course). It is very classy looking.

The vibrator does not scream "SEX TOY," however those in-the-know can probably easily identify it in a line-up of your usual coffee table artwork.

Because of the ease of use and design, I would say this can be enjoyed by those new to sex toys as well as veterans.

Measurements:
Length of Body: 4"
Length of Hard Tip: 1"
Length of "Finger" Tip: 1.5"
Length of Swirly Round Tip: 1.5"

Circumference of Body Near top: 3.5"
Circumference of Body Near Bottom: 6.5"

All Tips start at the base with a circumference of 3.5" (they screw onto that part of the toy)
Hard Tip- diameter at the tip- 0.5"
Finger tip- starts at base, then at 0.5" up, it tapers to a sort of mix between a spoon and a fingertip type of shape
Swirly Tip- 4" circumference at its roundest

Functions / Performance / Controls

To turn on the toy, you simply press the (+) button once. This will start the toy on its first, lowest steady vibration. By pressing the (+) button, you can then course through the first of 5 speeds of steady vibration. After the first five, you will then find 3 different patterns. At any time, you can press the (-) button to go back to the previous setting. At any time as well, you can hold the (-) button for 2-3 seconds and it will shut the toy off. You can also turn the toy off by pressing the (-) button until you get back to the first setting and then it will shut off.
I like that they offer both ways of turning it off, because when you are caught in the moment, it can be difficult to think straight to figure out how to turn a toy off.

As far as power goes, I found myself holding the toy thinking "WOW" at the lowest level. However, when put to actual use, it felt less impressive. I think its bark is bigger than its bite. The vibrations are on the side of buzzy and surface, and left me feeling a bit tingly after a 20 minute session.

The first pattern is an increasing wave from low to high (this lasts about 5 seconds).
The second pattern is a quick, mid-level pulsing.
The third pattern is a quick little stutter of pulses, ending in a longer high level note.

Now, the drawback to this vibrator is the noise-level. It is rather loud, throughout ALL of its levels and settings. It is distracting for me. I put it down on my bed, shut the door to my room and walked partway down the hall and could still hear a low-level buzzing.

Also of note, you will feel the vibration throughout the entire toy into your hands. The only place you don't feel it is the base of the toy where the buttons reside.

The power of the vibrations does not lessen with pressure.

Care and Maintenance

This toy runs on but one AA battery, which can be inserted by twisting and gently pulling off the bottom. It goes + side in first. This toy markets itself as being waterproof. I will say I have doubts about this, as the first time I screwed off the battery compartment, the entire "O-ring" that seals off the toy and makes it waterproof... yeah, it just came clear off. I was able to put it back around, but it seems a bit iffy to me. Perhaps this was a defect of only my toy, though.

Oh! And I should say that the first battery is supplied to you.

I would advise using only water based lubricant with this toy, due to the tips being made of silicone.

I would also advise you clean this toy by using simply soap and water, or perhaps a nice toy cleaner. If you get the battery compartment wet somehow, be sure to dry it out completely.
Do NOT put this toy, or its tips, in the dishwasher. Trojan's warning says that they are not meant to be washed in a dishwasher. The body of the toy definitely shouldn't be put in the dishwasher or boiling water, as it would ruin the mechanics. I suppose, also, that the tips have plastic in them which can melt at high temperatures.

Storage has been conveniently supplied to you. There is a nice satiny, black pouch that comes with the toy. The pouch is 9.5" by 4". It closes with a drawstring. You could also just keep the toy in the packaging itself.

Packaging

The packaging, while nice, is probably not best for a "discreet" gift. It says Trojan boldly on the front of the shiny, purple package. There is a large window cut-out in the front that proudly displays the toy. The toy is locked into a plastic mold.

The packaging will tell you this is made in China.

It also includes a nice little instructional packet, telling you how to use it, how to put in batteries, etc. It gives some warnings about using it externally and not for over 30 minutes consecutively. Also, it warns that sex toys do not prevent against STIs or pregnancy (oh I hope you already knew that one!).

Personal comments

Personally, I think this is a neat little massager. I find it to be of moderate-to-strong power, but the noise level bugs me. I have other vibrators that are quieter. I do like that there are different options for the heads, because it makes the toy more versatile. I found myself going back to the finger-tip shaped top because it cupped me quite nicely (though I think it was meant to be used with the concave end outward). I was able to reach orgasm with this one.

This won't replace my Wahl (oh nothing ever will!), or my MiMi, but it was surprisingly noteworthy.

When I first got the product, I went through a variety of reactions. My first thought was how Trojan was probably cheaply made and not strong. Then, as I read the packaging, I got excited thinking it was very high-end worthy.

But as I played around with the Midnight Collection 5.3, and consider how it uses a battery, I have to say that this just isn't luxury-line worthy to me. It does stand out as above-average, though.

I also can't get over how velvety the body of the toy is. It's almost like hard plastic covered with a very thin layer of silicone (though I can't find any information confirming the materials for the body).
Follow-up commentary
I don't use this very much due to the vibration quality. It makes my hands all numb and tingly without really getting me off too easily. I wouldn't really recommend it especially for the high price tag.

Very wonderful review! This toy has a very interesting look, but whoa! what is up with that price?! I will definitely have to pass. It looks like it'd at least be stronger if it costs that much. Loved the review hon!

Thanks to everyone for the comments! I was excited to get this assignment
(but Kendra, you are right on the price... it's at least 20 bucks too high for me with it's batteries and roaring loudness)
