Evolved Birthstones: Beautiful For a Beginner

This is a wonderful little toy for those of us who are just starting on their sex toy journey. Between the price, design, and power, it really is tough to beat. The versatility will please advanced users, and the small size makes it great as an non-intimating introduction to clitoral stimulation among other activities. Between the shower, the bed, and your partner, I'm sure you'll find plenty of adventures to go on this bullet with.

Use

This slim, tapered bullet is designed for pin-point clitoral stimulation, but that isn't all it's good for. It also does well for shallow vaginal penetration and nipple stimulation. If you've got a male-bodied partner, this could also be used to spice up a hand job. Given this toy's lack of a flared base I would not recommend it for anal penetration (though it would be fun to stimulate the outer sphincter with it during foreplay). The short size makes it less than ideal for other sorts of partner play, but at least you won't have to worry about a bruised cervix thanks to that.

The slim size really helps to concentrate the vibrations at the tip, though this might cause size queens to shy away from trying insertion with it. Anyone from a complete novice to advanced user should be pleasantly surprised with this little guy's power, especially considering the fact it only uses a single battery.

At only fifteen dollars, this would make a perfect beginner's toy. It's easy to clean, versatile, waterproof, quiet, and compact.

Material / Texture

Made of a non-porous, body-safe plastic, the Birthstones earns an 8/10 on our safety meter. Sleek and easy to clean, you can just wipe it down with hot water and antibacterial soap, or give it a once-over with your preferred toy spray or wipe. It's also safe to use with most of your favorite lubricants. One advantage this material holds over the more hightly-rated silicone is that it can be used in conjunction with longer-lasting silicone-based formulas with no fear of damage. If you've got a proper about of natural lubrication you might not even need to add any at all, given the drag-free nature of the material.

One thing I noticed is that this particular bullet had no lingering new plastic smell, and it doesn't attract lint. It's ready to go from right out of the box (just remember to add a battery first; it doesn't come with any), but you should give it a quick clean just for your peace of mind.

Seemingly seam-free, everyone should enjoy the fact that this guy has no resistance when it comes to insertion. Though advanced uses might be bored by the lack of texture, this makes it good for those of us who are newer to sex toys.
    • No odor
    • Not porous at all

Design / Shape / Size

Measuring in at four inches long, this guy is on the long side of the bullet spectrum. The white plastic is banded with a colored stripe of your choice and a coordinating gemstone. This colored stripe acts as the dial to turn the vibrations on or off. The shape is pleasantly non-phallic, with a relatively even width until it begins to taper at the end. All in all it has a circumference of about two inches, and three of the four inches can be inserted. This makes it extremely similar in dimensions to a human finger.

When it comes to clitoral and nipple stimulation, the design allows for enjoyment by anyone of any experience level. Size queens will be left wanting for more when it comes to insertion, as will most average users. Speaking as a PIV-sex virgin and as a girl with narrow pelvic bones, I found the small circumference refreshing. I had been looking for a vibrator that was discreet and lacked girth to no avail, until I came across this toy. If you're looking for something small to experiment with, this might be the perfect thing for you. I enjoyed using it without the power source in, just to fool around with penetration without the vibrations.

The design isn't the best when it comes to thrusting, and the plastic can make it slippery if you decide to take advantage of its water-safe features. As a lefty, the turn-dial can be hard to operate. While it is supposedly multi-speed, I did not find that to be true. It seemed to go between full-speed, barely on, and off. Just the slightest twist of the ring can cause it to change, and it's rather easy to accidentally turn on. Make sure to remove the batteries after use if you need to be sneaky.

Speaking of being sneaky, this guy is perfect for travel. It's quiet, making it good for dorm life, and slim enough to store just about anywhere. It would fit nicely in a purse or pencil case, and at a glace it might even be mistaken for a fat, fancy pen. It fit nicely in the pocket of my robe, and I used it several times in the hall bathroom without a hitch. It does not come with a pouch for storage, however.

Functions / Performance / Controls

The vibrations for this bullet, along with most others, seem to be located at the tip. A few residual rumbles can be felt up the shaft, but I suspect that is more caused by the location of the power source than by intentional design. The vibrations are steady and somewhere in the middle ground between buzzy and rumbly. I found this to be pleasantly strong, and most power queens should be pleasantly satisfied. My clitoris is naturally very sensitive, and at times I even found the vibrations to be a little too much. If you have that problem, I would recommend using a little more lube, or trying to turn down the dial a bit, if you can.

The controls, as a mentioned previously, can be hard to use. The plastic makes it hard to get a grip, especially if you have slicked-up hands, and the ring can be over-sensitive to adjustment. Given the price tag and the other features it makes it a bit hard to complain. Oh, and the product does NOT come with batteries, but it only requires a single AAA to run.

Have I mentioned how quiet this is yet? It's nearly silent. Over a shower it is impossible to hear, and in the bathroom it could easily be mistaken for a muffled electric toothbrush. You have to hold this quite close to your ear to hear anything if there are other noises going on, and even in a dead room the sound is not exactly invasive. If your roommate is a heavy sleeper you could even get away with using this while they take a snooze.

Not that you would need to do that, when you can just get away to the bathroom. After testing it out in the tub and in the shower, it performs well in both places. You shouldn't submerge this completely for very long, just to be on the safe side, but extended bath time use should be no problem.
    • Discreet sound
    • Easy to use
    • Not enough variety

Care and Maintenance

One advantage of plastic is how easy it is to clean. As I said before, you can just wipe it down with hot water and soap, or toy cleaner. Isopropyl alcohol can also be used if you really want to make sure it's clean. I would recommend using soap after every use, and then using some sort of antibacterial once a month if you're using it frequently. Obviously, you want to clean it before and after sharing it with someone else (even if you're both free and clean of STIs/STDs). After you wash it, you can let it air dry or use a soft towel. Given the material you shouldn't have to worry about any residue being left behind.

Being so tiny, it's a very easy toy to store. You could leave it loose, or find a little bag to put it in. Storing it with other plastic toys should be fine, but be careful about glass, since it might mark it up if they get moved around a lot.

This toy is otherwise very low maintenance. If you want to get the most out of it, just remove the battery after use to help it last the longest it can.
    • Easy to clean

Packaging

I should not have been surprised by the packing of this product, or lack thereof. If there is one thing I can complain about it is that. The packing itself is not exactly discreet, but not overt either. There might not be any naked ladies on the front, but it'll be obvious to a lot of people that what you are getting is a sex toy.

The clear, flimsy plastic casing holds the toy in place by only a small cut-out on the inside. It only gives the company, "Miss (Month)", an email, and a list of features. It advertises a one-year warranty as well. Though the clear case gives you a perfect idea of just what you're buying, I would be leery about what could happen in the mail if the package gets a little too jostled. I would not recommend that you store the toy in the packaging.

Though no instructions were included, and with a little wrapping it would be a cute gift idea (although I'm not sure how many people you would want to give a fifteen dollar vibrator to as a gift). There is no further wrapping other than the box, and for some reason they put a paper insert inside of the battery compartment which you can get to by screwing the gemstone / colored ring part of the bullet off. I'm also not sure if the plastic is recyclable.
    • Minimal
    • Not very discreet

Experience

Let me just add that this was my very first sex toy. Ever. In any way, shape or form. As a total beginner, I was quite pleased by this toy. It has allowed me to get an idea of what I like and don't like, and the uses for this toy just seem to multiply as I spend more time with it. That being said, more advanced users should take what I say here with a grain of salt, since they might not be as easily impressed as I am. I would however, highly recommend this to any of my fellow newbies out there. There's nothing quite this powerful, reliable or material-safe at this price point.
