Great first vibe for beginners, discreet and quiet

The Layaspot is an exceptional beginner vibe if you're not sure what you think about vibrators and want to try them, or if you are particularly sensitive want something gentler than normal. It's definitely worth purchasing if that's what you're looking for, and I highly recommend it!

Use

The Layaspot was the first vibe I bought, and I still love it! It is a great way for beginners who are perhaps nervous about buying their first sex toy to start with something non-threatening. I've used it mainly as a clitoral vibe and to stimulate my nipples, though I'm sure it could also be used as a general massager as well. It feels fantastic! I'm pretty sensitive, so that fact that this isn't a crazy-strong vibe is actually a plus.

I've used it in the shower with no problems, so I would say it's at least splash-proof. Just make sure you pull out the batteries and let it air-dry really well afterward.

Material / Texture

The Layaspot is made of elastomed, so it's perfectly safe for almost anyone. I didn't notice any odor or scent when I first got it, and if there was it has long faded. The elastomed feels silky smooth on your skin and very "real", even without lube, though it feels better with it. It's not a flexible material though; it's hard and smooth except for the control buttons which have a little bit of "give" so you can press them.

    • Smooth

Design / Shape / Size

As a beginner vibe, I'd say the Layaspot shines in its design. It's small and ergonomic, so I don't get a cramp in my hand when I use it...a huge plus! Also, as mentioned previously, it can pass for a regular massager and probably be used just as effectively to massage any body part, so I would say it's very discreet. I don't think anyone would think twice if they found this in your suitcase on vacation. The batteries (2 AAA's) are also easy to find, meaning you never have to worry about running out of power. I have found that the vibrations can get a little weak after a while, especially if you keep the batteries in when not in use. Fresh batteries usually do the trick to fix this.

Functions / Performance / Controls

I would say that the Layaspot performs exactly as it's supposed to, as a discreet clitoral vibe, and it will last you for a good long while with proper care.

The controls are easy enough to use. Two buttons: the "plus" button turns the vibe on, starting at the lowest setting and intesifies the vibrations and/or patterns, and the "minus" button decreases the vibrations and turns it off from the lowest setting. It's pretty easy to press the buttons, though it takes some getting used to if you've never used a vibrator before.

The vibrations themselves aren't terribly strong or buzzy, but boy do they work! I prefer the first three levels myself, and they are more than enough to bliss me out! There are several patterns as described in the product description, though I usually don't use the highest pulse settings as they can get a little strong for my taste. Also the higher settings/patterns are quite a bit noisier, and can be heard easily from under blankets. The lower settings are quieter.

There seems to be a lot of different opinions on whether or not this is a water- or splash-proof vibe. I haven't tried submerging mine yet, and don't plan to, but I have used it in the shower once or twice successfully. I'd call it splash-proof, though the box it came in did say it was waterproof.

    • Easy to use

Care and Maintenance

Cleaning elastomed toys like the Layaspot is pretty simple. Just wash it with anti-bacterial soap and water, and I would recommend taking off the cap and removing the batteries as it dries, just to be safe. For more information about elastomed, check out Eden Fantasys's Materials Guide on it.
I store mine is a clean, plastic cosmetic box. I would think any place that won't collect dust is probably fine for storage.

Packaging

Since it's been quite a while I purchased my Layaspot, I remember the packaging being pretty innocuous. It's not discreet packaging by any means, but I could see this being a good bridal shower or bachelorette party gift without too much embarrassment for the recipient. I wouldn't say the packaging is good for storage, though, and I didn't save mine.
    • Not discreet
    • Very informative
    • Would make a nice gift

Personal comments

I'm not especially "into" vibrators, and in fact, I find that I'm a little too sensitive to enjoy using them. The Layaspot is great for gentler vibrations, and I enjoy it from time to time. With that said, when I was single it was FANTASTIC to take the edge off once in a while when regular masturbating just wasn't enough. I haven't tried using the Layaspot or any other vibrator with my partner yet, so I can't comment on that experience.
Follow-up commentary
I still like the LAYAspot, but I find that I'm not using toys as much at the moment. Much of that probably has to do with my relationship status, but even with that aside, I'm just not that into vibrators as a whole, so it's not getting as much use as it potentially could.

In general, though, it's still an excellent toy and it still works perfectly several years later from the time I bought it. It's high quality, and well worth the investment if you're a beginner.

Great review! I'm glad the LAYAspot works so well for you...mine wasn't quite up to getting me off, but it made a great teasing toy.

I love the looks of this and all the color options, but I don't think it would be strong enough for me.

Fantastic review! I've been eyeing this fun little vibe for awhile but if it isn't powerful I'm afraid it's not for me. Clit-o-steel Hitachi girl here

Thanks everyone for your encouragement and feeback!

@NarcissisticLust - You're right that the Layaspot is not for those that want or need stronger vibes. I haven't tried a Hitachi, but from all the research I've done and reviews I've read, it seems way too intense for my body. Different strokes, different folks.

Thanks for the great review! How would you say the vibrations range? Are they more toward rumbly or something in between? You mentioned they weren't too terribly buzzy. Just curious. I love the details in your review.

Hmm...that's a tough question because one woman's rumbly is another's buzzy and it's all very subjective. When I think of buzzy, I'm also talking about the noise level, so to me this is a quiet toy. Given the two adjectives rumbly and buzzy, though, I'd say it's closer to rumbly. I think fresh batteries makes it more on the buzzy side too. Hope that helps!

not sure but we have the Laya and the better than chocolate ( the music ed) both have their good points, but the laya is a little smaller and compact. Both were really well tho and the music seting is fun feature!

So my partner and i decided to check out this site and order a bunch of new items. I just ordered the LAYAspot and it should be here friday! Ehh i cant wait! How does everyone feel about this cute toy?
    • reading the MANY many reviews on the toy will give you a good idea about the overall feelings and consensus of the toys.
    • it's nice that there are so many user submitted reviews on this site. it's so hard to choose a toy, especially an expensive one, with only the manufacturer description.

  • LayaSpot Questions
    • So, I just posted a review of this toy on my blog and and am rereading some reviews here. I am seeing some discrepencies and have a few questions for you.

Some reviewers state that this is a waterproof toy but my instructions clearly state that it is only splashproof. Perhaps the instructions have changed? Maybe Fun Factory decided it wasn't really waterproof? If you have this toy, what did your instructions say?

Furthermore, a few people said that they received silicone based BodyFluid with their LayaSpot but I received their water based lube and, again, my instructions said not to use silicone based lube (I believe, can't find them).

Also, I think it's just me but my Layaspot pretty much smelled god awful when I got it. Anyone else?

Just looking for different experiences with these things..

I've heard that fun factory toys can stink to high heaven, and I have no idea why they would because they're supposed to be 100% silicone. I have other silicone toys and they don't smell at all. Maybe it's not the toy itself but the packaging that surrounds it? Sorry I'm not much help, but the smell that people talk about with FF toys is enough for me to be wary of buying one.

I have since pitched my instructions, but I think mine said splashproof rather than waterproof. I got the Toyfluid (water-based) lube, and mine was smell-free! All of my FF toys have been totally odorless, actually.
