Green is the new pink

Life by Leaf has its minor shortcomings, but don't be fooled - it could easily become the crown jewel of your collection. The materials, battery and motor used to create this toy are well worth the price tag. It is powerful, durable and easy to maintain - just don't forget to charge it.

Use

Life is a clitoral stimulator that has been designed with that purpose specifically in mind and thus excels as such. The PowerBullet motor is located at the pointy end of the toy, so that's where the vibration is strongest. You will notice that, depending on the way you hold the vibe, you can get either pin-point or broad stimulation. I find that to be a very clever feature, given the different preferences women have - whichever you prefer, the Life can and will deliver.

Most clitoral vibrators can be used externally on any part of the body. Life's vibrations are really strong and rumbly - the strongest and deepest I've come across in such a toy, actually, so it can even serve you as a neck massager. I mean it with all my seriousness, after I tried it the first time (out of curiosity), I started carrying it with me everywhere I go. I also highly recommend it for nipple stimulation. Be aware, though, to start at the lowest intensity and work your way up to a comfortable level - don't underestimate the power this green little thing holds. For me, anything above the second level of vibration felt odd instead of pleasurable and the fifth (highest) level was actually painful.

Even though Life (as all Leaf vibes) is completely water resistant, it's not suitable for insertion. Vaginal insertion feels odd due to the toy's shape. Anal insertion is downright dangerous. There's no such thing as 'not recommended' in this case, better think of it as not allowed or forbidden. The shape of Life lacks a broad base and if you try sticking it up your butt, chances are you'll lose hold of it. You don't want to have to wonder how to get it out afterwards, so better don't go there in the first place.

Material / Texture

Life is entirely covered in silicone, which is among the safest materials that can be used for sex toys, because it's non-porous and doesn't retain bacteria. It's smooth, although not as smooth as the silicone Lelo uses for its toys. Thus, it collects lint. This is a pet peeve of mine; I hate it when toys gather lint and dust. I end up washing them several times a day when in use. When holding it, you notice it's firm and feels solid in the hand, with the exception of the tips of both ends, which are flexible.

Life also has a light smell, which can be felt only if you put it directly under your nose. I don't mind because it's not an unpleasant smell, it's somewhat fresh and even a little sweet. I licked it once and didn't notice any taste.

Even though Leaf claim their toys are seamless, that is not the case. The vibe has a seam that runs along the length of the toy and that can both be seen (it's darker in color) and felt. In my view, it spoils the aesthetics of the vibrator and even though it doesn't bother me personally and doesn't affect hygiene, I still think avoiding it would've produced a better visual result.

Design / Shape / Size

The green color of Life is without a doubt very attractive to the eye and creates a strong first impression. It's a great choice that gives the sense of freshness and also the association with nature, which is something rarely seen on the sex toy market. We, girls, basically swim in an ocean of pink and it's a nice distraction to spot an island of green in that ocean. With this in mind, I'm having trouble understanding the decision to use purple for the Leaf+ line of toys, given that the green color was so widely accepted as one of the best traits of the Leaf vibes.

The shape of Life imitates that of a leaf, of course - easily recognizable and further accent on the connection with nature. Life's shape is probably one of its strongest assets - the design is not just beautiful, it's perfectly functional for the purposes of a clitoral stimulation. It can be used both for pin-point and broad stimulation. The toy is easy to hold and fits naturally in the palm of the hand. When I first got this toy, I spent quite a lot of time just holding it and admiring the design's perfection. The designers of Life have really hit the spot with those elegant curves.

Overall, Life has a very non-threatening look - almost nothing about the way it looks indicates what it really is. Since it's small and can be easily hidden, you can keep it with yourself when you travel. The toy is about 10cm long and 4cm wide, which basically means it can fit on the palm of your hand with ease.

Functions / Performance / Controls

Life operates using a single button to control the strength of the vibration. It really couldn't get any simpler. Just a short press on the button turns the toy on, another short press turns it off. You want to increase intensity? Press and hold. You want to decrease intensity? Um, sorry, no, you can't do that. I would describe that as a minor annoyance but, really, given everything else that is just perfect with this toy, I don't even care.

The power button has a light indicator, which is, of course, green. It lights up when the toy is on and it also serves as an indicator of the strength of the vibration. While pressing and holding the power button, vibration will increase in intensity and the light will blink more frequently the stronger the vibration is. Once you reach the highest fifth level, the light stops blinking and becomes constant. I find that it really helps with knowing when to stop holding the button. This toy is very powerful and I rarely go above its third intensity. If I accidentally switch to the fourth, I'll have to turn it off and start again, which would be distracting.

I've seen complaints in other reviews regarding how easy it is to turn the toy off by accident, because the power button is too easy to press. I have experienced no such thing. The button is sturdy enough that it requires conscious effort on my side to press it and thus turn Life off. Leaf have listened to their users and have changed the functions of the power button in the Leaf+ line of toys, which now turn off with a long press of the button. This is one of the reasons I preferred to buy the older, green vibe - I actually like it better when a single short press of the button turns the toy off.

The power button also allows the toy to be locked, so it doesn't accidentally start buzzing inside your bag while you're traveling. Three short consecutive presses do the job of locking and unlocking and it's really easy to do. Besides, the manual that comes with the toy explains this part in a very detailed way. Also, the toy will unlock if you plug it in to charge.

Talk about charging, things are made simple here as well. Another light indicator, this time red, will light up while the toy is charging and will go off when it has reached full charge so you know you can plug it out. The plugging in, itself, seems a bit like raping the toy - you have to practically pierce it and it's a bit scary. I'm always extremely careful with that, I don't want to break it.

When it comes to vibration, Life only has steady one without patterns. There are five different intensities, that provide more than enough variety, in my opinion. Due to the public opinion being different, two of those intensities have become patterns in the purple version 2.0 of this toy, which is yet another reason why I'd rather go with green instead of purple.

As I've already mentioned above, the vibration is very strong. The PowerBullet motor is smartly placed at the pointy end of the toy which ensures some pretty spectacular vibration to rock your... um... world. I am honestly amazed that Life is not noisier - I have weaker vibes that can be heard throughout the apartment. If you're in the same room as the vibe, there's no chance you won't hear it, but once you close the door it's like it stops existing. I would definitely place it on the discreet end of the scale.

And a final note on performance, Life is completely waterproof. Water does not affect its performance in any way. You should take a bit of extra caution and wait for an hour or two to charge it after it's been in contact with water.

Care and Maintenance

Due to the silicone and the toy being waterproof, cleaning and maintenance are a piece of cake. Water and soap is all you need. You can use toy cleaner, of course, if you have any. Everything silicone like other toys and lube is a no-no because it's an expensive toy, after all, let's be safe. I wouldn't risk it despite the high quality of the silicone.

Besides, Life comes with its own storage pouch and there is no reason whatsoever to not keep it in it. I carry my Life everywhere with me, it never leaves my side.

Packaging

Leaf comes in a nice, sturdy box that carries a typical nature-friendly look. It has a small magnet installed inside the cardboard, which creates a very comfortable way of opening and closing the box. It's very discreet looking, feels durable and I would definitely recommend it for storage.

The box itself contains: Life, a storage bag, a charger, 4 different power plugs that can be attached to the charger and an information booklet. All of these things come individually sealed in plastic packages (the power plugs share one) with the booklet in its cardboard folder conveniently placed on top of it all. I am a big fan of the additional power plugs that go with the charger - it means wherever I travel, I can have my Life with me without the need to carry additional adapters.

Experience

I can honestly say that Life is my top-of-the-list toy, my absolute favourite. I've had it for two months now and I hope to have it for many more to come, because, honestly, I rarely look at any of my other toys anymore, I love it so much. The shape is perfect, the vibration intensity and variations are perfect. I can use it alone, I can use it with my partner, I can hold it in my hands, I can put it on a pillow and sit on top of it... Btw, the pillow thing is awesome, everyone should try it. I don't even want to buy any other toys and I used to always be on the lookout for something better.

Verdict: To me, this is the ultimate clitoral vibe. It's impossible to not love it.
Follow-up commentary
As of writing this 10 months have passed since I purchased this toy. I have had no issues with it whatsoever. I charge the battery probably every 4-5 uses and even timed it once - it takes precisely 2 hours to charge.

Hopefully Life and I will be together for many, many years to come.
