Like A Virgin...

...just for your very first time. This is a simple, pretty, soft vibrator with moderate power and some variety in functions, and would make a rather nice first sex toy. For the more experienced and discriminating user, though, this one lacks the sophistication to really satisfy.

Use

The Liberté 2 is part of the Couture Collection from California Exotic Novelties. It's a slim plastic vibrator inside a thick coat of silicone, and is primarily designed for use in vaginal insertion and clitoral stimulation. However, its (theoretically) sterilizable material should be suitable for anal use, as well, if a Vibrator Enhancer is applied near the base.

This pretty little toy can be used for solo pleasure sessions, or to amp up quality time with your partner. It's fairly quiet, too, so no need to worry about roommates or children wondering why it sounds like you're locked in your bedroom with a swarm of angry hornets.

Material / Texture

The exterior of this toy is listed as "premium silicone." It's on the softer side for silicone; the tip is somewhat squishy and flexible for about the first inch, similar to the firmness level of standard Tantus silicone, and it has a matte finish which feels velvety to the touch.

CECCLiberte2_10

This leaves the toy with some drag, but less than a smooth, shiny silicone would have. Now, the box touts this vibe as being "seamless, sophisticated, and unscented"; the silicone is, indeed, seamless, but it does have a scent to it.

It isn't a strong or especially unpleasant scent, but when I hold it to my nose, it smells just like the Bunny Buddy sleeve, which is made of TPR silicone (a blend of thermoplastic rubber and at least 10% silicone). I couldn't find any text, on the box or on the manufacturer's website, saying that this toy is "100% silicone" or even "pure silicone"--just "premium medical-grade silicone from Japan." It also doesn't say anything about the toy being non-porous, nor does it specify that it's body-safe. So, I do have some concerns about whether this material is actually pure silicone, or whether it's really a blend.

The base/battery cap is made of a white ABS plastic, which is also matte-textured and contoured with soft curves. The power/function button is made of a rubbery material, and finished with a smooth white coating.

Design / Shape / Size

This is a smaller midsized vibrator, at 6 1/2" total length and 5 1/4" insertable length. It's also on the slender side: the thickest part, around the slight swelling near the tip, is 3 5/8" in circumference, or 1 1/8" in diameter; the smallest part, just below this swelling, is 3 1/4" around and 7/8" across; and near the base of the toy, it thickens again slightly to 3 1/2" around and 1" in diameter.

This shaped tip enables gentle G-spot stimulation. The shaft also features several shallow, swirly, asymmetrical grooves along its length, which add to its aesthetic appeal, but don't add noticeably to the sensations when used for penetration.

Between the silicone portion and the plastic battery cap is a decorative, chrome-plated dividing ring. To remove the plastic cap, twist it counter-clockwise, then lift off. You'll see that the toy is protected from water by a clear, rubbery gasket around the end of the battery compartment. To replace the cap, line up the tabs on the inside of the cap with the notches on the outside of the battery compartment end; push down gently (don't force it), then twist clockwise. The button should face the same direction as the G-spot bulge.

Inside the battery compartment is a plastic sleeve for holding the two AAA batteries. This sleeve shows which direction the batteries should go, so I'd recommend only pulling it out far enough to snap the batteries in; otherwise, you may forget which end goes in first! The sleeve also prevents the batteries from rattling inside their compartment during operation, which helps to keep the noise level down.

Functions / Performance / Controls

This vibe has a single button which acts as both the power switch and the function selector. When pressed, a small, hard nub can be felt beneath the rubber surface; however, it doesn't require too much pressure, so this shouldn't become uncomfortable. It may cause uneven wear on the rubber button over time, though.

CECCLiberte2_03

When powered on, the button lights up with a red glow, then pulses slightly with the various vibration patterns.

CECCLiberte2_09

There is no instant-off function; you must cycle through all of the settings to turn the vibrator off, which can be frustrating after you're finished playing, or if you have a sudden need for discretion. The functions are:

1 - low steady: 2 vrooms, 1 bee
2 - medium steady: 2.5 vrooms (higher-pitched), 2 bees
3 - high steady: 3 vrooms, 2.5 bees
4 - low speed and fast pulsating, escalating to high and steady
5 - high speed, quick pulses (about 4 per second)
6 - high speed, very quick pulses (5-6 per second)
7 - high speed, three quick and one long pulse

The low speed is on the deeper, lower-pitched side, while the medium and high speeds are comprised of faster vibrations, but are higher-pitched and more buzzy.

The waterproof feature does seem to work well; I tested it in the bathtub, fully submerged, and no water was able to get past the seal.

Care and Maintenance

If this toy is, indeed, covered with pure silicone, then it is non-porous and can be sterilized by wiping it down with isopropyl alcohol. However, nowhere on the box does it say "non-porous," nor does it give any care instructions other than, "Wash before and after each use. Remove batteries when not in use." There is no instructional insert, either. At least it's easy to wash with soap and water or toy cleaner, since it's waterproof. I recommend storing it in such a way that it's not in contact with other soft-textured toys, as they might cause each other harm.

Packaging

This vibe comes packaged very simply, especially for one marketed as "couture" and having the word "luxury" on the box. It arrives sealed in a thin, flexible Styrofoam-like envelope:

This envelope is then placed inside a basic, thin paperboard box:

As you can see, mine came to my house a bit crushed--partly because it's flimsy, and partly because it was shipped in a bubble-lined plastic bag, rather than the box EdenFantasys used to use. This packaging is not at all suitable for storage, nor is it very discreet-looking (although at least it doesn't feature the usual near-nude adult models in ludicrous poses). I suggest storing this toy in a fabric pouch.

Experience

I went back and forth on whether to order this vibe several times. I liked its color and shape, but already had several slender vibrators with multiple speeds and/or multiple functions. I finally decided to go for it, since I didn't have a soft, squishy vibe in my collection.

Unfortunately, this toy doesn't really do it for me. The lowest speed is a little too much for me to start out on, and the higher ones don't really feel more powerful--just faster and buzzier. The patterns don't work for me either, being all at high speed and not having much variety. I like the feel of the silicone exterior, but also have some concerns about the content of the material. I'd feel much more confident about it if the wording on the package were specific, and said either "non-porous," "pure silicone," or "100% silicone."

Thanks for the info. The Easy is a similarly styled toy that, in my opinion, performs better. You might want to try it
