Little, But Not My Friend

The Petit Ami is pretty, but don't let its looks fool you. It's as shallow as a teaspoon, and about as arousing. Its light but painful and buzzy vibrations made me feel like I had a colony of bees swarming over me. I recommend looking elsewhere for your discreet vibrator needs.

Pros
It's pretty, the shape is nice.
Cons
Buzzy vibrations that are too light and actually painful at the same time, one setting.

Use

The Petit Ami is an external massager. As such, it can be used for clitoral or nipple stimulation, foreplay and massage. It is not meant to be inserted.

As a clitoral massager, the Petit Ami is subpar. It has one setting, controlled with a button on its side. Its vibrations aren't strong, but they are fast and buzzy. For me, "fast and buzzy" translates to "OW". It managed to be both weak and painful -- like being pricked with dozens of needles. The Petit Ami's vibrations were too unpleasant for me to apply as much pressure as I like on my clitoris with it. It was barely able to give me one teeny-tiny orgasm, and I put it aside for something actually enjoyable as soon as it did. It's too weak for most women to even get that much out of it.

For all-over body massage, the Petit Ami is also subpar. It felt like nearly nothing on my nipples, and my boyfriend and I could barely feel its vibrations for a normal massage, and what we could feel was not enjoyable.

To top it off, the Petit Ami is not waterproof. No funtimes in the bath or shower with this little toy. It best use: sitting on a shelf and looking pretty.

Material / Texture

The Petit Ami is smooth plastic, and feels nice enough against the skin when it's not turned on. This texture neither adds nor detracts from stimulation, and would be fine for anyone. It's hypo-allergenic, phthalates-free, odorless, tasteless, and easy to take care of.

Design / Shape / Size

My black Ami with white flowers is very pretty. At least it gives me something nice to look at. It's 2.75 inches long, 1/4 inch thick, and tapers from about an inch and a half to about a half inch in width. It's easy to hold in one's palm. It fits well on the labia, and the little scoop on the top cradles the clitoris nicely. Its small size makes it easy to use during sex or with a dildo. This is a promising shape.

The Ami also looks like a small compact, so it's quite discreet. It's small and sturdy enough to throw into a purse, or even put in a front jeans pocket. I think the button protruding from its side would put it in danger of going off randomly if you left the battery in, though.

Functions / Performance / Controls

The Petit Ami takes one AAA battery, not included. Its one vibration setting is turned on and off with a convenient button. I sometimes have to press this button more than once to get it to turn on, but generally it works well. The vibrations are distributed evenly throughout the toy. It's quiet; though someone lying next to you would be able to hear it, no one would be able to hear it through a closed door.

Writing this review, I've been occasionally picking up the Petit Ami and turning it on. The skin on my palm and fingers now has pins-and-needles. If it can do that to a hand, think about what it can do to a sensitive clitoris. The vibrations are too high, too fast, too buzzy, and too light. This is the first toy I've had that's been uniformly unpleasant to use.

Care and Maintenance

Since the Petit Ami is plastic, it can be cleaned with soap and a damp cloth. It is not waterproof and should not be submersed. It can be sanitized with isopropyl alcohol; if you do this, wash it again before use to remove the alcohol. Plastic can be used with water, oil and silicone lubes. The Petit Ami is hardy, and can be thrown in a drawer without special precautions, though I advise taking the batteries out before you do this. Or you can leave it out and admire its pretty flowers.

Packaging

This vibrator comes in a nice little clear plastic box declaring it to be a "powerful, discreet, slimline contour massager". The box would be okay for storing the vibe, and would be easy to wrap for gifting. The only instructions included are on how to replace the battery.

Personal comments

I got the Petit Ami because I wanted a nice, gentle clitoral vibe, and because it's pretty. At least I got it half right. I've tried this vibe multiple times, hoping somehow it would get better, but I've given up. Every time I've tried this vibe, it's been painful and not stimulating.

I'm giving the Petit Ami one star rather than none for its looks, its discreet appearance, the relative safety of its material, and its nice shape. But when it comes to performance, it's a huge disappointment. It got me off, barely, but frankly I'm about as difficult to get off as a herd of rabbits in a carrot patch. This is one little toy I can't recommend befriending.
