Mona is My One True Love

Mona is beautiful high end toy that performs beautifully as a g-spot toy. Its many vibration settings make for a versitile toy that can be enjoyed by almost anyone. It may be pricey, but with it being so powerful, quiet, and being rechargable it is more than worth the cost.

Use

The Lelo Mona is a beautiful vibrator that is designed to target the g-spot, though it can be used for external stimulation as well. I find it great for thrusting, but due to its shape, that may be more dependent on one's personal anatomy. Rocking with it or even just letting it be inside with out actively moving it also works well for stimulation. It's a toy that I've really grown to love the more I play with it and experiment with new ways of using it.

Material / Texture

The Mona is made of plastic and silicone and comes in both red and purple. The handle is made of white plastic and the insertable portion is plastic which has been covered with a layer of silicone. This makes for a firm toy that does not have much give to it and allows for firm, precise pressure to be applied. The silicone has a velvety feel to it which provides a little bit of drag to the toy. This matte feeling also helps the toy not to gather as much dust/hair/etc. as many silicone toys do, though it can attract some.

The great thing about having a silicone toy like the Mona is that it is non-porous which means that it can be sterilized. This makes it safe to use without worrying about it harboring bacteria as long as you take care to keep it clean.

Design / Shape / Size

Being curvy and smooth, It's design makes for a very aesthetically pleasing toy as well as a functional one. The toy was designed with the g-spot in mind, but it also works well for clitoral stimulation when used externally. It is thin near the handle, then is more bulbous where the motor is, and then tapers into a point at the end of it. It feels bigger than it is. Its dimensions are as follows: it is 8 inches long with 4 inches of that being insertable. At it's widest point it is 1.5 inches in diameter and then narrows from there.

Here is a picture of Mona next to Je Joue G-ki and Lelo Gigi to get a better idea of its size and shape relative to other toys.

As pretty as it is, it really isn't a discreet toy and not something to lay around if you are worried about someone knowing you have sex toys. Sure it's not as obvious as some of the more realistic style toys, but you aren't really going to fool many people with this one. Keep it hidden away in its box if you need discretion.

Functions / Performance / Controls

There are four buttons that control the patterns and intensity of the vibrations. The + and - control the intensity and you can either hold the buttons or press them several times to change the strength of the vibrations. The up and down arrows control the pattern of the vibrations. There are several to choose from, and it is fun to play with the different patterns. There are 6 to choose from. steady vibration, slow pulses, fast pulses, low to high escalating, hills or low to high to low, and random pattern.

I found the controls intuitive and easy to use, however my partner has been frustrated on several occasions by the controls and how easy it is for him to accidentally change the settings when he doesn't mean to. I believe this is due to differences in the way we grip the toy as he tends to use a cylindrical grip to be able to hold the toy well enough to thrust with and ends up covering the buttons with his hand while he holds it.

The Mona is one of the quietest toys I have ever used. It's hard to hear through a comforter or blanket, and it wouldn't be heard through a closed door.

One of the best features about Mona and the other Lelo toys is that they are rechargeable. It comes with a charger which is the same one used for the other Lelo toys, so if you have more than one you can use it for both toys. It takes about 2 hours to charge, and it holds its charge for quite a long time. I don't think it lasts quite the four hours that Lelo says it does, but I tend to run it on a high setting and always get over two hours out of it between charges.

There is also a locking mode you can use if you wish to take it on a trip or something and need it not to accidentally turn on inside your bag. Simply hold the + and - buttons for a few seconds until it flashes, and then it will be locked "off" until you unlock it by holding the buttons again.
    • Discreet sound
    • Lots of variety in function
    • Rechargeable

Care and Maintenance

Mona is not waterproof so care should be taken when cleaning it to make sure that water doesn't get inside the toy. There is a small piece (of silicone I believe) that plugs up the charging port to help keep water out, but mine fell off after a couple of months. To clean the toy carefully use soap and water, toy cleaner, or a 10% bleach solution. Lube does tend to get in the seam and some of the lettering so a little bit more care should be taken to clean those areas. I use a q-tip to clean some of the harder to reach places.

Since Mona is made from silicone, it is best to use a water-based lube because a silicone-based lube can affect your toy.
    • Easy to clean
    • Easy to store

Packaging

Lelo always has great packaging, and the Mona is no exception to this. Mona comes in a lovely black box with Lelo written on the lid. It is a very sturdy box and is good for storing Mona or other toys. The charger, detailed instruction booklet, and warranty were also included in the packaging.

There is also a black satin bag to store your toy in. The bag for the Mona was very nice and luxurious. It is lined with white satin which is a step up from Lelo's Gigi which had a bag that was unlined and tended to fray much more quickly.

    • Discreet looking packaging
    • Good for storage
    • Would make a nice gift

Experience

Mona is definitely one of my favorites. It is my most frequently used toy I have both for solo play and with a partner. I just never want to put her down, and I've had her nearly a year! I have not found a toy that fits my own body as well as this one does. I know everyone's body is different, but for me this was true love a treasure to find. The tip hits me in just the right spot and I was actually able to learn how to "squirt" using this toy. I would replace it in a minute if it ever broke which I don't see happening anytime soon.
Follow-up commentary
This is still one of my favorites, and it is definitely my partner's favorite to use on me. I have noted it has a tendency to glitch every once in awhile now. It's not often (maybe 5% of the time) and it hasn't taken away from out play yet, but it is distracting when it doeas happen. When it glitches it feels almost like the "random" pattern of vibrations even when it is set on steady vibration. I hope this doesn't get worse as time goes on. We have used this toy a lot, several times a week for over a year. but I was hoping for more time before we started having issues with it. For the time being it is fine, but I am worried it will get worse.

If it does ever fail, I will definitely be replacing it. The Mona is a toy that I simply can not live without.

  • Head to Head Mona -vs- Gigi
    • Two quality toys. The Mona appears to have a slightly bigger diameter and (a bit) overall heavier. Wile Gigi has a little more insert-able length.

Are there any differences with the vibration patterns? How about charging or battery use differences?

The obvious shape difference, means the Gigi has a broader vibration pattern. (Any comments on the Gigi shape, with respect to catching on the pubic bone?) While Mona is most likely a bit more pinpoint.

Who has both and would like to expand on this explanation?
    • I have both and I prefer Mona over Gigi by a LOT. I believe the vibration patterns are the same, or similar. Mona has a stronger motor. I didn't find Gigi to have quite enough length to work for me. The handle is small and it didn't quite get deep enough for me and it would bother my pubic bone some. However, I know it's shape is perfect for a lot of people. Mona's shape is perfect for my body. Me and my partner use it EVERY time we are together and it's the best toy we've ever used and we have a pretty large collection.

They charge the same way, you can even use the same charger for both of them. I think Mona has a longer battery life, but I don't actually remember. The control pad for each of them is slightly different, but I wouldn't say one is better than the other.
    • Good information thank you. Anyone else tried both? I would appreciate input.

    • What is your favorite Lelo toy and why?
    • So far, I only have a Gigi and some of their new sensual restraint products, so..I'm not sure yet!
    • I have several Lelo toys, and so far Gigi is still my fave. Though Ina does run a close second.
