More Bang for Less Bucks

The Lucid Dream No. 14 will provide those on a budget with strong, quiet vibrations and a good g-spot toy. Sure, it's not as good as the Gigi, but that's not really a fair comparison either. Even if concerns about phthalates mean using a toy cover, the Lucid Dream has enough positive features to be worth the inconvenience.

Use

The Lucid Dream No. 14 is designed as a g-spot vibrator on the larger side, and it doubles as a powerful clitoral vibrator as well, because it has an impressively strong motor located in the head of the vibrator. I found the highest setting too powerful for my personal tastes, so if you're looking for a cheap alternative to the so-called power tool vibrators like the Hitachi (which admittedly I've never used) this could be a good choice.

Material / Texture

The Lucid Dream is made with a smooth, soft jelly rubber and some variety of firmer PVC material, so it does smell moderately awful straight out of the package. According to the sexperts, the really bad ones stink up whole rooms for weeks at a time, no matter how much you wash them. That's probably true, because I've owned plastic products of non-intimate kinds that stank that badly for that long, but this toy stopped stinking after a couple of baths with hand soap. Of course you're not supposed to get antibacterial hand soap anywhere near your girlie bits, because that kills the bacteria that belong there, making way for yeast which most decidedly is not welcome. This toy didn't get used until it had been rinsed, and rinsed, and rinsed some more. That wasn't a problem, because it's waterproof.

I recommend using a condom or toy cover with this product if you're worried about possible phthalates.

Design / Shape / Size

Due to the size of the toy, it might take a beginner a bit of warm up to insert it comfortably, but my own experience was extremely limited the first time I used it, and with lube I did not experience any difficulties. Check out the 'view actual size' feature on edenfantasys.com to get a better feel for the size.

The design is a good one for applying strong vibrations to the g-spot, and for creating a general feeling of fullness. The flexibility in the neck of the toy makes it useful for thrusting or pressing against specific areas, and the fact that it's waterproof and extremely quiet for its size makes it possible to take it into the shower, if you're into that sort of thing.

As for hiding this toy -- it's on the larger side, but no so large that it can't be hidden in an old sock, or a cosmetics bag. The "back massager" excuse would be almost plausible, depending on your lying ability and the gullibility of your audience.

Functions / Performance / Controls

The Lucid Dream passed the sound test with flying colors. I could barely hear it when it was next to my ear in a silent room.

The head of this toy was a little larger than the first thing I'd inserted, so when I first used this toy, I was a little nervous, but a single drop of water based lube (well, probably more, but I've since learned that one drop goes a long way) and it slid in much more easily than I would have guessed.

The neck is flexible, but not too flexible, so I could try different angles as I hunted for the elusive g-spot, but still manage appropriate pressure when I found a good spot. Prior to using this toy, I had absolutely no idea that inserting something could feel quite so good. Granted, I've used the Gigi and the Curve since then, but I might never have purchased either one if I hadn't tried this toy first.

The vibrations went from whisper soft to really quite intense, and all completely silently. It felt great inside, although I needed a little separate clit stimulation to get over the edge. As a clit vibrator, it was mind blowing for me, personally. I can't imagine I could enjoy the more intense plug-in vibes that I've seen online, because this felt too strong on the higher settings and the sexperts give the impression that things like the Hitachi are much more powerful.

Another plus when inserted -- with the big curved head and the slimmer neck of the vibe, it stayed in place when I let go of the handle to use my hands elsewhere. This toy is waterproof, too, not that I have the slightest intention of trying that feature.

Did I mention the price? This toy is in the twenty dollar range, and it's bordering on must-have status even with the inconvenience of requiring condoms or toy covers to use it regularly.

If you're comparing it to the Lelo Gigi, they're not nearly as similar as they look on the computer screen. The Lucid Dream #14 is much bigger, has a flexible neck, and is made of squishy PVC. The Gigi is smaller, firmer, and made of silicone. The Lucid Dream #14 has only one type of vibration, although it has a great range of intensities. The Gigi has five types of vibration, and a smaller range of intensities.

Apples to Oranges, really, especially since the Lucid Dream #14 is around twenty bucks and the Gigi is at least five times as much. I like the Gigi better, but the Lucid Dream #14 can hardly be faulted for that fact.

Care and Maintenance

Either water or silicone lube can be used with this toy, but it should be used with a toy cover or a condom since jelly is porous and cannot be completely sterilized. It can be cleaned with toy cleaner, or soap and water, and since it's waterproof it's very easy to clean.

Packaging

The packaging was inoffensive and only slightly wasteful. The box is made of plastic, so to recycle it, I flattened it and slipped it into a plastic potato chip canister that I happened to discover in our recycling bin.
Follow-up commentary
It's been almost a year since I made this purchase, and I recently retired the toy to the inaccessible storage bin, primarily because I have so many better options that I never reach for it, but also because the material is starting to peel, and I can't be bothered to use a toy cover when I can just use a different toy. It's probably unjust to compare it to toys that cost five times more, and I don't regret the initial purchase, but if I'm honest, the toy has fallen from favor.

Thanks for touching on the use of condoms or toy covers with jelly. It can be so very hazardous to the health of some because of its extremely porous nature.
