This toy has a chemical odor when you first take it out of the packaging. I had been able to get rid of it after several washings with body wash and incredibly hot water. After I finally used it, I found it was also a bit hard to clean. There are a lot of little cracks and crevices, and these could pose a bacterial problem if not cleaned properly. I resorted to a very soft baby tooth brush to ensure it was indeed clean.
