Nova Was a No-Go For Me

I was looking for a small, quiet, battery operated clit vibrator to keep at my boyfriend's house. I decided to give the Nova a chance. I had tried another Bottle Rocket (the Apollo) and the shape didn't work for me at all. I knew this line of toys didn't have the strongest vibrations, but I was hoping that Nova's texture and broader tip would add enough extra stimulation. Unfortunately, I was wrong. Nova is a nice toy, but it just isn't right for me.

Use

The Bottle Rockets Nova by Evolved Novelties is a small vibrator, best used to stimulate the clitoris or other external areas. It isn't safe for anal penetration, and I find it too small to be useful vaginally. It's waterproof, so it can be used in the shower or tub. It's quiet, so it could be a good option for those who need discretion. The small size means it won't get in the way if used during sex, and that it's easy to store and travel with.

Material / Texture

The Nova is made from plastic so it is non-porous, phthalate-free and compatible with any lubricant. The body of the toy has a smooth, velvety PU coating and features a swirled spiral texture. The swirls add stimulation when the Nova is rubbed against the clitoris. If the vibrations aren't quite strong enough for you, the extra friction may be enough to push you over the edge. The battery cap is made from shiny plastic. I haven't experienced any problems with it being too slippery or difficult to open or hold onto. A band of silver coloured metal seperates the cap from the base.

Design / Shape / Size

Nova is 4 1/2" long, and about 3 1/4" could be inserted. It's 7/8" wide or 2 3/4" around. It's too small to be effective as an insertable vibrator in my opinion. It's about the same size as a man's middle finger. I actually prefer being fingered with a single finger, but a finger can curve up to reach my g-spot. Even when I angled the tip up, Nova gave me very little (if any) g-spot stimulation. The small size works well for clitoral use and won't get in the way of another toy or your partner. It is also very easy to store and travel with.

Nova has a softly rounded tip, and can provide pinpointed vibrations without being poky. I prefer a broader surface, and found that turning the toy onto it's side worked better for me, but still didn't cover as much of the area around my clit as I would like.

Functions / Performance / Controls

Nova has a single speed of vibration. They are on the buzzy side, and what I would consider a medium-low level. The toy can be turned on or off by pushing a single button located on the base. The vibrations travel well throughout the short length. They are pretty quiet, and won't be heard through a door. Nova runs on a single AA battery. The battery compartment is waterproof, and has stood up to being submerged without leaking.

Care and Maintenance

Nova can easily be washed with soap and water or toy cleaner. Since it's waterproof, you don't have to be careful during cleaning. For a more thorough cleaning, it can be wiped down with alcohol.

Packaging

The Bottle Rockets come in packaging that looks like a clear plastic bottle. It's rally cute and could make a good gift, but it's a bit difficult to get the toy out, so I wouldn't suggest it for storage. To open it, you screw off the bottom on the bottle. A clear plastic ring placed between the battery cap and the body of the toy holds it upright inside the bottle. You have to screw off the battery cap to take out the extra piece of plastic. The package doesn't include instructions, but none are really needed for this simple toy.

Personal comments

If anyone's curious, I did end up finding a vibrator that fit what I was looking for; the Ultimate Massager. It's not quite as cute as the Bottle Rockets are, but it's a lot stronger and has a variety of speeds and patterns.
Follow-up commentary
I don't think I've used this at all since I wrote my review, and I doubt I'll use it in the future. It just can't compete with my other vibrators in terms of strength. I should probably just throw it away.

Pity this isn't such a great performer... it really is rather cute. I'm drawn to cute things like lint is drawn to silicone toys. :/
