Pretty Petticoat for PETITE people!
Though I love petticoats and fluffy things in general, this was disappointing in its fit/size. I found it too tight and probably not worth the amount it retails for.Published: September 1, 2010
Pros:
Frilly, white, cute.
Cons:
Scratchy, does not fit a variety of people.
This Lace Petticoat by Leg Avenue is pretty basic (if you can refer to something that frilly as "basic")... ahem... It's got an elastic waistband, some material along the top (lycra, I believe), and then a very scratchy, pouffy tulle skirt, edged with floral lace.
This petticoat is cute, and the picture is pretty accurate in its length (it came mid-thigh on me, as well as in the photo) but it had one little problem.
It's super super small.
Like, I think that my friend's six-year-old child would fit into it. I managed to squeeze my child-bearin' hips into the elastic waistband (and, by "child-bearin' hips," I mean, "size 10 waist") and immediately felt like I was wearing a girdle, or that a very thin boa constrictor had just positioned itself for a bone-crushing session on my iliac crests. I wouldn't go out in this; I couldn't keep it on comfortably for more than about five minutes.
I'm not very into uncomfortable clothes though, so if that's your thing, this may be the product for you! The tulle is scratchy and I imagine if one wasn't wearing any tights with it, it would be downright unpleasant to sit on for more than a few moments. If one wore leggings or tights with it (or a small slip) it could be doable... if you were also probably between size 0 and 8.
"One size fits most" was what was printed on the packaging (which was a cellophane bag stapled to some cardboard-- so at least part of it was recyclable)-- but I wouldn't classify super-skinny women as "most" people, at least in the US. Maybe "most exotic dancers" or something.
Though it's cute, I think this one's destined for the next clothes swap. Someone half my size will look great in it! In the meantime, I'm sticking to the petticoats I bought from a thrift store a couple years ago. They're soft and fluffy and comfortable-- and made to fit adults.

Follow-up commentary
2 months after original review
The size and scratchy-ness factors haven't changed, and I haven't lost any weight, so this isn't the product for me. However, I'm sure someone will make use of it this Halloween season!

Sorry it didn't fit. Thanks for the head's up, though, I'd been thinking of getting it.
Adding this to my list!

Good review!
Wow, your friend's six year old is bigger than me ? .....
On another note, how do you wear petticoats? Ive never really thought about them until I started browsing EF.. Do they go under skirts, or do most people wear them with leggings?
