A little known fact about me: I like shiny things. I’m not so big on wearing jewelry, but if it’s shiny or cute I’ll buy it. I don’t particularly identify with S & M, either, but I decided I’d buy the Sex & Mischief necklace anyway. It seemed like it would be cute to wear with a corset or something.

The necklace arrived in a small black see-through pouch, like the kind you’d give out party favors in. The top has a drawstring. A sticker attached to one side of the drawstring lists the name of the product, but no useful information. The bag is ideal for gifting the necklace or any other small objects.

The necklace itself measures about 20 inches long when unclasped and measured from end to end. No information is really given on the type of metal used to make the necklace or charms. I am guessing it is not stainless steel due to the price tag. Some wearers may note that their skin changes color from the metal. I’ve had this happen sometimes with cheap rings. You’d just need to swap out the necklace with another one to stop that from happening. The pendant portion is about an inch long and half an inch tall. The characters “S & M” are charms looped over a thin metal bar. They’re free to move around on the bar and make a light jingling noise while doing so. The metal bar is attached to the necklace through two metal clasps, so it can easily be removed from the rest of the necklace. Again, no information is given on the materials used to make the pendant, but I am guessing it is made out of lower-quality metal. The gems inside each character could be made out of glass or could be small rhinestones.

The whole thing is really pretty. Both the necklace and the charms are very shiny, dark metal. Despite the low price tag, the whole thing doesn’t look cheaply made. I like that it adds a subtle amount of sexiness to clothing, though the S & M can be taken for Sadomasochism, so it may convey the wrong message to people if you’re not into that.

It’s very easy to clasp and put on yourself. Sometimes I have difficulty with necklace clasps because I just can’t manage to hold the clasp open and slide the other end in at the same time. This necklace has a hook-like clasp rather than a ring clasp, so it’s easier to work with.

The necklace doesn’t feel very heavy when worn. It’s actually very light weight and comfortable to wear. On me, it falls to my breast bone, just above my cleavage. It is a little low compared to the neckline for most of my shirts, though I do tend to wear mostly t-shirts or shirts with a higher neckline. I do notice that the charms flip over very easily when worn, so you’ll need to constantly check to make sure the charms aren’t flipped over backwards. I think that is mainly due to how they decided to clasp on the pendant separately.



I strongly recommend removing the necklace before washing or showering to avoid getting it wet. In my experience, leaving on lower-priced jewelry while washing tends to corrode the metal quickly and ruin the piece. I’d also remove it when sleeping so that it doesn’t get exposed to sweat while you’re asleep.

Caring for the necklace should be simple. It can be wiped with a dry microfiber cloth as needed. If you want, you could try jewelry cleaning products, though I would test a small part of it first to make sure it doesn’t alter the appearance of the metal. Follow the directions closely on the cleaner’s container.

This would make a good gift for a female partner, though I don’t think I’d give one to a friend or relative unless it was meant as a gag gift. It would work well in addition to the purchase of other Sex & Mischief gear or some lingerie.

Overall, the Sex & Mischief necklace is pretty cute. It’s very shiny and would add to lingerie or any sexy outfit, though you may want to be careful with wearing it out if you are a bit more shy (like me) about showing your sexiness. I like that it’s well made, though I don’t care for the fact that the manufacturer did not include any information on how to clean the necklace or what kind of materials were used to make it. There isn’t even any indication as to where it’s made.
