Slick knickers

If you're looking for something that is glycerin- and paraben-free, hypoallergenic and formulated to emulate naturally occurring female lubrication, then I definitely suggest you look into Sliquid's Satin. With ingredients that are not only pronounceable, but that you've likely heard of, this lubricant is a real treat when compared to many others on the market if you're looking for something as close to the real thing as you can get.

Use

Sliquid's Satin natural moisturizer is a hypoallergenic, non-toxic product for daily use. This is different from a standard lubricant, which is generally applied only before or during sexual activity. Formulated to mimic the female body's secretions, this product still manages to be gluten-free, vegan friendly and manufactured without glycerin and parabens.

The ingredients are as follows: Purified Water, Plant Cellulose (from Cotton), Carrageenan, Aloe Barbadensis (Aloe Vera), Natural Tocopherols (Vitamin E), Cyamopsis (Guar Conditioners), Potassium Sorbate & Citric Acid

Potassium Sorbate is a mild irritant in large quantities, however it is used as a preservative in many different commercially available foods, including wine and most dairy products. Unless you are previously aware of an allergy, you are very unlikely to have problems with any of these ingredients. Sliquid Satin is fantastically diverse and great for use by many people who find that they have to be choosy about their lubricant for one reason or another.

Aside from daily use, Sliquid Satin is intended for application during intimate moments as well, and could be used for masturbation, vaginal or anal penetration. As it is water-based, it is safe for use with toys of all materials. It is non-staining, so there is no worry about ruining either your sheets (if using this during intercourse( or your panties (if wearing it daily to aid with vaginal moisture).

This product is available from Sliquid in 125ml and 255ml (4.2 fl oz & 8.5 fl oz) bottles, as well as small 5ml pillow packs. At a whopping $3.57 per fluid ounce, this seems like quite a pricey product. It is quite comparable to most other Sliquid lubricants, however, which generally cost about $3.25 per fluid ounce. If you purchase the 8.5 fl oz bottle, you're actually going to bring your cost down to $2.70 per fluid ounce. This is still quite a high price compared to lower tier lubricants, however for a premium product, I believe it to be reasonable.

Texture / Consistency / Thickness / Viscosity

This is not a runny lubricant by any means, however it is not at all thick enough for use underwater. It is a slick, velvety substance, and I did not find that it dripped or flattened out too much after application. It is a bit gel-like in the way it sits on the surface of your skin, which I am quite fond of.

When using this on a daily basis, I honestly do not feel like I am wearing a lubricant, which could be a problem if it were any thicker. It is easy to forget that I am wearing anything at all, as it is quite similar in consistency to my natural lubrication. The following photograph shows the lubricant's movement down my hand after a five second delay - I had applied a small, circular dollop, about the size of a fresh pea.

When spread out, it hardly beads on your skin, which is fantastic, because I find that something with fuller coverage tends to allow for the smoothest penetration.

Taste / Aroma

I find that the Sliquid Satin natural moisturizer doesn't have much of a scent. It isn't truly unscented by any means - no product really is - but it has a very light smell. If I were to pick a scent, I would say that the aroma is fairly close to that of pure aloe. I do not find that the scent hangs around after it is absorbed in to my skin or that I can smell it even when I am very active.

Since it's not intended for consumption and I am not particularly fond of the taste of Aloe, I have not tasted the lubricant itself. I have found that there is no noticeable taste remaining on the skin after it has been wiped off or absorbed in, however, which was a nice change from the bitter taste that some lubricants leave behind.

Performance

As long as it is not exposed to moving air, this product is very long-lasting. We encountered a problem with it during intercourse because we often had the overhead fan turned on, which caused the Sliquid Satin to dry out almost instantaneously. There was no sticky residue left behind, however, which was a fantastic plus - that is my least favorite thing about having to use lubricants. It was still quite disappointing, though, since we did not experience the problem to this extent with any of our other lubricants, and once the lubricant was dried up, it was not easily rehydrated and did have to be reapplied.

Wearing it over the course of a day did not necessitate reapplication, and the consistency did not noticeably change throughout the day. The only time I did need to reapply was after I showered or used the toilet. Because it is not overly thick, it does feel quite natural when in use, and that in combination with the fact that a little goes a long way makes this an excellent lubrication for intercourse. You're not subjected to a thick layer of lubricant separating your body from that of your partner, but you shouldn't have any trouble with things being too dry.

As I mentioned above, this is a bit too thin for use in the shower or bath. It just doesn't have the staying power that I would need to make sex comfortable. That was also a little bit of a disappointment, although not altogether unexpected for a water-based lube.

Packaging

The bottle itself is absolutely striking. It comes in a standard rounded cylindrical bottle with a black press-to-open seesaw style top, however the deep blue of the translucent plastic is an elegant change from a clear bottle. The label is a sort of navy blue, and the lettering is done primarily in gold, which gives this product a very formal feel.

I would say that the packaging is actually fairly discreet as long as no one stops to take a close look. The design on the front, of a flower and the venus/female gender symbol, isn't trashy or overly sexual. The word "Satin" is much larger and more easily visible than the word "Sliquid," so even someone who knows the brand might not recognize this unless they are familiar with it in particular.

This should give you some idea of the size of the 8.5 fl oz bottle. I would have liked to have used a water bottle, but my roommate's strange iced tea mix was the only thing in the fridge - it's roughly the same size as a water bottle, so I decided that it would do. The 8.5 fl oz bottle can also be seen next to 4.5 & 4.8 fl oz bottles.

I don't find it to be leaky or messy, however it is difficult for me to open and squeeze the bottle with one hand, as the plastic is a bit stiff. This does make application a bit of a challenge, but it is not overly inconvenient.

Experience

As a very naturally well-lubricated woman, I was intrigued by this product because, like many, I've been negatively affected by my hormonal birth control. I missed being able to just snap my fingers and be ready to hop into bed, and I thought that perhaps this might restore me to some of my former glory. While it is functional, I just can't see myself applying it every morning, especially as I'd have to reapply every time after I pee, particularly. Since I am currently living apart from my partner, I am just not the type to put forth that extra effort for something that doesn't increase my comfort levels outside of when I am sexually active. Were I completely dry, I might change my mind, but as it stands, I am not using this daily.

As a lubricant, my partner disliked it quite a lot because it dried out so easily when we left the fan on. Living in Florida, it's much easier to enjoy sex if we can keep the room cool, because overheating doesn't match up with our idea or fun. If it were cooler, I think that I'd easily be able to convince him to use it again, as it is very long-lasting provided we keep it sheltered from the air.

I'm very happy with the lack of strong smell, that there was no taste left on the skin and especially with the fact that there was no sticky residue left up after this product dried. I didn't feel that there were any particularly noticeable moisturizing effects for my skin, but that wasn't really a concern for me. I'm definitely looking forward to giving this another go (hopefully in Canada, where our whether is apparently now perpetually inclement), and despite my partner having written it off, I have not.
Follow-up commentary
I actually find myself using this more often than anything else, as I usually grab lubricant when toys are involved. It works well even on the "catchiest" of silicones, and though it dries out a little quicker than I'd like, it's usually good enough to get me going.

Awesome review. I had it on my wish list but if the air dries it like that then it's not for us.

Great job on this! I just got the same size, and it worked well for my partner and I with the a/c fan on--maybe it works better with silicone?

@FieryRed - I'm really not sure! Maybe it was partly because the air being blown around was so hot? I haven't the foggiest idea what the differences might be, but I know that I wasn't able to get my partner to try it again after the third time he was completely dry within five seconds after application. The first time it happened, it was actually funny, because we were just staring and touching and asking "where did it all go?"
