Use

Using Smartballs is an enjoyable way to exercise your pelvic floor muscles. I bought my Smartballs shortly after reading that strengthening your pelvic muscles can lead to more enjoyable sex. In addition to working out your vaginal muscles, the inner set of balls provide a mild vibration that is just enough to remind you that they're there. You can slip the Smartballs in during the day as your own little secret, or you can put them in before a hot date to be sure that you'll be aroused all night long.

Material / Texture

I loved the way the Smartballs feel so smooth that they're almost soft. They're made out of silicone with small ridges around both balls. The material is very firm, and the Smartballs are only flexible at the middle connector, allowing the Smartballs to be inserted at a slight curve.

My Smartballs have never smelled, but I'm always very quick to clean them after use so I can put them away. The material isn't porous and is very solid, so I don't imagine that they would end up smelling.
    • No odor
    • Not porous at all
    • Smooth

Design / Shape / Size

I love the design of the Smartballs! In fact, I think their cute design is what led me to choose them over any other Kegel ball set on the market. The balls are a little large, so I typically need to get myself warmed up before I insert them, but once they're in, I feel as though they're just right. The shape is also a perfect shape; I like that the balls are not perfect spheres and are instead more of an egg shape (just barely). I think this is an easier shape to get in and out than a perfect sphere would be because it's more gradual.

I consider this toy to be a discreet one, but I'm mostly basing that off the fact that it isn't phallic as all my other toys are. I don't think I would be embarrassed if anyone came across them, but I also don't keep them out. Their small size and discreetness make these toys suitable for travel.

Performance

I personally love the inner set of balls in my Smartballs. I often find myself dancing around with them in just so I can enjoy the vibration. One thing that I do have a hard time with is getting the Smartballs out, though. The string at the end is used to pull the balls out, but you also have to make sure you're relaxed when doing it. I seem to have an impossible time doing this and end up working really hard to get the balls out.
    • Comfortable
    • Easy to use

Care and Maintenance

Because the Smartballs are made out of silicone, they're incredibly easy to wash. After use I always just end up wiping them down with a toy wipe or washing them at my sink. The original box the Smartballs come in includes a little clear plastic mold for them to sit in. Rather than throwing this little case away, I kept it and store my Smartballs in that before I put them away in a drawer.

Of course, because the Smartballs are made out of silicone, be sure you don't use a silicone-based lube when using them to prevent breaking down the material.
    • Easy to clean
    • Easy to store

Packaging

I've found that Fun Factory always has the cutest packaging to go with their cute products. The box had easy-to-understand instructions and, like I already mentioned, included the little plastic "case." The case isn't anything extremely fancy. The plastic is more like the plastic used in Barbie packaging, but it works great for simple storage. I wouldn't recommend using the package as a gift unless you were giving someone the set of Smartballs, in which case I think slapping a bow on the box would be a perfect addition to the sleek packaging design.
    • Good for storage
    • Recyclable
    • Very informative

Your profile says you're male but you use these to work your "vaginal muscles"? That must be a real challenge!

I believe it says I'm male identified. I'm ftm, so no, not a very big challenge.

  • Have you tried these or something similar?
    • I'm curious to hear about how long (daily and over the long term) you wore them, and what the results were. Could you tell a difference?

I'll be interested to hear people's responses to this. My understanding is that they can be worn all day. But when I try to wear any toy for a prolonged period of time (more than 1 hours) I find that I get dry and the toy gets uncomfortable and I have to take it out.

As for telling a difference: I try to remember to do some Kegel exercises a few times a day, and I've noticed a difference since I started. Since these toys are a Kegel exerciser, I assume that if they do what they're meant to do, then yes, you would be able to tell a difference. These are at the top of my wishlist right now. Maybe I'll get them soon and I'll be able to give you an answer myself!
    • never tried them. Looks cool though

  • Choosing The Right Ben Wa Balls For Your Anatomy
    • So, this is a general question for all the women out there. I recently purchased Fun Factory's Smart balls Teneo Duo and they're my first set of ben wa balls. I spent quite some time analyzing the different types of ben wa balls and felt comfortable enough purchasing the ones from Fun Factory after the great reviews. Now that I've gotten them and tried them a few times, I'm sort of disappointed and left wondering if I'm doing something wrong (since many others seem to love them).

For me, the balls are very cumbersome to insert. The product isn't huge by any means. I own vibrators with a larger circumference than the Teneo Duo. Yet, everytime I've struggled to insert them (even with lube). Additionally, I can't feel any vibrations or movement. I know they're not necessarily supposed to be arousing. But, I literally can't feel anything. While, when I hold them in my hand and move them slightly, I can feel the movement without a problem. So. I'm looking for advice from any women out there.

Should I have started with smaller sized ben wa balls? Does the material of the balls make a difference in sensation (metal vs. silicone)? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I have both the original Smartballs and the Teneo Duo. I can offer some personal insight into one of your problems, and will take a stab in the dark at the other.

First, as to insertion, my stab in the dark is: are you using lube and inserting the balls one by one? This toy needs lubricant, as its silioone creates a lot of friction and "drag." I swab some lube on the top half of the first ball, and a little around the neck of the second. I also find the finger insertion grip to be useless for the first ball. You have to hold the first ball on its own and pop it in there, then use the finger grip for the second.

As to the vibrations, my personal experience is that I didn't feel them at all when I first started using the smartballs, but the sensation improved as my grip did. I didn't find that the vibrations stimulated involuntary muscle contractions or gave me a passive workout out of the box. I had to use them for a couple of weeks and do a lot of deliberate squeezing before the process got more automatic.

Your mileage may vary, as everyone's anatomy is different, but my advice would be to give it a couple of weeks of daily wear and see whether your opinion changes. I love mine now and feel that they provide a PC muscle workout that is superior to kegel exercises sans equipment.

      Hope this helps.

So the sensation improves over time? I've never been impressed by any balls, because I can't feel them. I think I'll take your advice and try to get some regular use out of mine so maybe I can see what all the fuss is about.

  • What's the difference
    • Between the Smartballs Teneo duo and the regular Smartballs
    • Quote: Between the Smartballs Teneo duo and the regular Smartballs
The regular smart balls are smaller in diameter and circumference. So pick which one you think would be more comfortable for you.
    • The Teneo Duo are also made out of silicone, while the regular Smartballs are made of Elastomed.
