Too Much Hype, Not Enough Delivery

Gigi is a good toy, it's rechargable, it's curved well, but it will never be my toy of choice. As a warm-up/foreplay toy, Gigi can't be beat, but as the main course? Gigi will remain an appetizer. The vibrations are too weak, and its body too short to be entirely functional as my toy du jour.
Published: March 24, 2010
Pros:
Great color, good shape, lots of speeds and vibration styles.
Cons:
Weak vibrations, too easy to change vibration speed/style while using it.

Use

The Gigi is marketed as a G-Spot vibrator, but as I usually have difficulty hitting my own G-Spot, I went for the clitoral approach first. I thought that the flattened tip of the head would be a perfect match for my body, but maybe I should have stuck with G-Spot penetration as Gigi's first ride.

I was incredibly underwhelmed with the vibrations produced by the Gigi. Having read other reviews before I purchased my own, knowing that I prefer strong vibrations, I anticipated a vibrator that would make my knees quiver before I even took off my pants. The vibrations are there, with Gigi, but are nothing that makes my eyes pop open. I have to keep the Gigi on its highest setting to even find it remotely useful, and that means all of the other vibration styles were useless for me. I would have preferred stronger vibrations with the same intensity scale, so that as well as meeting my needs, it could be scaled down to people who prefer softer vibrations.

So I moved on to G-Spot stimulation. Fortunately, my G-Spot is shallow, so Gigi did hit it while it was being used on me. However, if I had the vibrations on while I was using it on myself, even clitorally, my fingers almost always accidentally hit the control pad, changing the vibration style or turning it off altogether. I was unable to hit my own G-Spot while using Gigi, but I won't fault the toy for that; it might just have been a pilot error.

Because the plastic of the handle is smooth, it is very difficult to handle when wet, and especially difficult when it is lubricated.

Material / Texture

I love silicone, because I'm a germaphobe and I'm entirely too obsessed with cleanliness. Fortunately Gigi is pure silicone, which means it's nonprorous, latex free, odorless, tasteless and (my favorite) completely sterilizable!

The insertable portion of Gigi is velvet-soft, a very pleasant texture, while the handle is smooth plastic.

Design / Shape / Size

Gigi has a slight curve to it, like an open parenthesis, which makes it much easier to use clitorally or vaginally than a straight vibrator.

I found it a little short to be really useful, either for solo or partner play; the insertable portion is a little short for my taste, but that would be okay if the handle was longer. Because it was so difficult to get a grip on the toy and hold it, g-spot attempts became frustrating.

On a completely superficial note, Gigi's colour is to die for--a beautiful turquoise that I wish I could match my outfit to.

Functions / Performance / Controls

It does have 7 speeds, as well as 5 different patterns of vibration (continuous vibration; slow, medium, and fast pulses, and rollercoaster, which cycles through from slow to fast) so if you don't need strong vibrations, this might be a great toy for you.

Also, given my issues with hitting the speed/vibration button while in use, I wish there was a way to lock the speed in place, so that I could use it without shutting it off.

It's not really noisy, a gentle hum at most, which will be great for people in cramped quarters or people who like to watch movies while using Gigi.

Gigi's product information says that an hour and a half of charging will provide you with 2 hours of play, but even with her on her highest speed, I got over four hours of use out of her--and Gigi is rechargeable, which is both economically and financially beneficial.

Gigi's "charge me now" sign is the control pad, which will turn red when it's time to recharge, and is otherwise white. Keeping her charging in for over 24 hours is strongly discouraged.

Care and Maintenance

Silicone is really easy to care for; it's sterilizable but the Gigi is not waterproof, so do NOT throw her in the dishwasher! Water-based lubricants are best, as other kinds may break down the silicone insertable portion.

Gigi comes with a white satin pouch, which is where I usually store her, though for traveling, her handsome box is where I prefer to put her.

Packaging

This was probably the most classy, attractive packaging of a toy I have ever seen. It comes inside a Gigi colored box that reminded me of a piece of Tiffany's jewelry, and then inside an attractive black box that held the Gigi. It comes with an instruction manual.

Personal comments

It's a beautiful toy, but it just did not do it for me. However, my partner really enjoyed it for clitoral stimulation, so others may enjoy it more than I did.
Follow-up commentary
When I first tried out Gigi, I was a little unimpressed--to say the least. However, I've found that as a quick and dirty toy strictly for penetration, she's not half bad. I don't use the vibrations, which sadly have still not started to do anything for me, but the curved shape makes penetration easy, even when another toy is stimulating me clitorally.

I'm surprised that it remained in my bedside toy box, but not upset!

Nice review! Too bad this didn't work out for you.

Thanks! It's a really nice toy, but it's just not for me. My partner liked it so she'll probably get custody of it, proving that what works for some doesn't always work for all!

Too bad it doesn't work for you. For me, the higher speeds are overwhelming...we can be so different. Good review!

Sorry this didn't work for you.

Just to let you know though, you were talking about how you wish there was a lock button - there is. You hold down the control panel and it flashes. You're locked. I know what you mean about sometimes changing the settings. I always lock before I start playing.

DeliciousSurprise (verified)

Jon--how do you lock it while it's in use?! I've tried a few times, and every time I use the lock feature while it's turned on, it turns straight off!

Well, I must admit that I warmed up to it more after using it more often. It's still not my go-to toy, and I think there are better g-spot toys, but it's not as bad as I originally thought.

Thanks for the follow up. Sounds like the good thing about Gigi is that its shape is reminiscent of Ella. Ella is a great dildo.

I keep going back and forward on this one! I love this colour and that it's a Lelo, but the tiny girth concerns me. I'd love it if they made it in a few girth sizes.

Nice review

actually though i'm working on my review right now- yes for internal stimulation it was a bit uncomfortable unless i rocked it against my pubic bone. I can only take like 4 max 5 inches inserted and though i was initially drooling over the shape on the tip it felt the same as when you're having sex and your cervix gets bruised- except it wasn't against my cervix. its quite hard and has little give to it though the silicone is quite nice. I used it more on my clit and she seemed to enjoy the vibrations(shrug)

    • How easy is the Gigi- G Spot Vibrators to use during sex?
    • I think it's more of a solo toy. You should look at the We vibes.

I think it works pretty well for this purpose. I use it simultaneously with a dildo all the time. Is it the best for this purpose? I would say you'd be better off using a smaller vibrator such as the Lelo Siri which is another personal favorite of mine during piv sex. Although it is pretty easy to use the Gigi. Works in all positions where your body isn't completely pressed against a surface or your partner's body. You'll need to give a little space in between you and your partner to fit the toy but it still works really well.

  • Lelo Gigi - Using a Condom or Not
    • I have recently bought the Gigi vibrator from LELO.

For my first use, I used a condom to cover the Gigi (the brand I used is Lifestyles Studded). After removing the condom, I noticed that the lubricant, from the inside the condom, left a kind of oily residue on the Gigi. I tried to use my toy cleaner to remove it, but I am slightly worried

I am worried that the lubricant from this condom is not water-based. Now, I have a few questions that I was unable to research answers to.

      1) Was the condom I used water-based?
      2) Have I ruined my new Gigi?
      3) Is it best to use a condom on the Gigi or not?

Any advice/help will be much appreciated.

      - Dr. Manhattan
    • From what I can find via Google, it looks like the lubricant in that condom isn't a silicone lubricant so it should be okay.

Lubricant Ingredients: Glycerine, Propylene Glycol, Polysorbate 20, Phenonip, Carbomer

I don't think you're ruined anything. If you're concerned you might want to try to find a different type of condom that leaves less residue. I have no suggestions because almost all condoms irritate me and since I'm fluid bonded with my partner we don't use them.

What would you recommend to clean the Gigi? I currently have a toy cleaner called "Swiss Navy."

Will using soap and water be bad for the Gigi? At least just for the silicone part of the vibrator?

  • is jt worth it
    • Is the product worth the price ????
    • I'm pretty sure we answered a similar set of questions about the pros and cons of expensive vibrators.
    • Quote: Is the product worth the price ????
Absolutely!! I bought mine a couple years ago after (literally) melting my previous one. Between the cost of having to replace my vibrators and the batteries constantly, I went for it and have no regrets!! Gigi is a regular part of our sex life! However, I use it only for cliteral stimulation (which works for me) so I can't speak if you are interested in G-spot usage.
The one drawback is I've found that I tend to hit the speed controls during use. Otherwise, the warranty is great (though i've never had one problem with it), it's easy to keep clean and store, and I LOVE that it's rechargable.
      Enjoy!

I highly recommend the Gigi for G-spot play. It's firm enough to stimulate it with the amount of pressure needed, but velvety enough to not be too much. Additionally the vibration settings I found to be ideal for pressing against my G-spot. Just have a towel ready!
    • Quote: I'd like to try a g-spot vib, but i dont know if this should be the one to buy...Any comments?
I would recommend the Gigi for g-spot play. I will point out though that if you have a g-spot that is on the further side in terms of depth in the vagina, or if like me your vaginal canal has a sharp curve to it then you should look for a toy that is longer than the Gigi. I love the Gigi as a clitoral vibrator but based on my anatomy it didn't do much for me as a g-spot stimulator. Take your anatomy into consideration before you buy a toy for g-spot play. If you are like me and think you'll need a more lengthy toy try the G-Spot Pink glass stimulator. I'm currently working on a review for that toy and it is a personal favorite of mine.

  • Charging Gigi in the UK
    • FiredrakeNemmy
So uh, my gf lives across the pond in England and I wanted to get a little something to bring her next I go visit.

She really likes the use of the Gigi vibrator but I'm worried about the charging of the toy, I learned to be wary of such things when I blew out the power to my Wii :X

But anyways, if anyone who has one could kindly take a look at the allowed voltages I would really appreciate it. The voltage info can usually be found on the charger itself ( a bunch of random numbers and such and has that UL logo ) Does it list the Input as 100V-240V or just something around 100V?

      Thanks!

They're good for 100-240V. I charged mine while living abroad just fine.
    • The charger I have with mine has the 100V-240V range.

You might also look at getting a charger specifically for using the Gigi in England.

    • My 22nd birthday is coming up which means birthday monies <3 I'm trying to see if I can orgasm with my gspot but haven't had any luck. I've been close but no beans yet. I'm debating getting this to see if it'll work for me, plus I'm trying to go off birth control, it's made my sex drive completely dissappear after 2 years of being on it, not to mention making me depressed, moody, etc.

Anyway, would this be recommended? Where's the vibration, though? More in the shaft towards the buttons or more at the tip? And is it plenty strong? (I need strong vibrations.)

I'll have to order at a time my dad won't be home, though, and make sure it arrives when he's at work--how embarassing it'd be for me for him to find out I have toys!

  • is the gigi a good starter g-spot vibe?
    • My friend Lee's birthday is coming up and ever since I told her about female ejaculation and what it is and that I can do it, she's been trying to find everything about it and is really interested in a g-spot vibrator, but she doesn't really like the way most vibrators feel with vibrations. To her, they feel like an "Oh, there's something vibrating in my ladyparts but it's doing nothing for me." So, my question is, is the Gigi different in that sense that the vibrations have some "variety" to them and they're not so monotonous? I'd love to get her the Gigi for her birthday and have heard nothing but great things about it.

My Gigi is on its way, so I'm not much help there... Although, whenever I read about female ejaculation the Ella is usually involved.

Miss KissThis totally beat me to the punch! If it has to vibrate and you want to be able to use it for clitoral stimulation, Gigi is great. But if you're on a lower budget and only want g-spot stimulation, the Ella is one of this forum's favorite dildos.

  • Best G-spot vibrator. Which one to pick?
    • Rachell25
LELO has presented a couple of very well designed G-spot vibrators, like Gigi, Liv and Elise, lately. Just looking at them makes me feel horny. They all have great features and different vibration modes and they are also rechargeable, so I can safe my money on batteries.
Gigi seems to be the toy of my dreams due to its well pronounced curved tip. I guess that will lead to a better contact with my G-spot.
Any ideas, suggestions, tips? Anything will do.

PS: Will Gigi make me squirt???
    • Rainbow
Wow... that looks really splendid, in fact, all of them do.
It looks like it's going to be my G-spot's best friend for ages.

That must be a bargain but it is kind of expensive for me at the moment but as soon as I can afford one I will surely have one in my toy box.
    • Siren
My dear, not every woman is able to "squirt", it depends on every woman's physiology but it is definitely going to send you to Seven's Heaven of Pleasure.
I own one, the Liv, and it's just terrible, in the good meaning of the word.
I can assure you, you made a perfect choice if you're looking for G-spot stimulation.
