Twisted Hearts... Mechanical Seduction?

An acceptable toy for beginners, the Twisted Hearts by Doc Johnson offers a whimsical answer to the vibrator with nearly pinpoint stimulation. But those funny points are almost too much, and you can probably find better elsewhere for a similar price.

Use

The Twisted Hearts Seduction by Doc Johnson is a vibrator with a twist. It's about 5 1/2 inches long, just over 1/2 an inch wide, and has a bulbous head and narrowed body. It gets its name from the way it was designed to look like a heart shape that has been sliced down the middle and twisted into the shape you see. This makes for a possibly uncomfortable experience for some, though the points where they poke off are entirely the silicone coating and very flexible.

I wouldn't really recommend this toy to anyone since there are so many other, better vibrators out there, but if a beginner (or anyone really) were to tell me they wanted to get it, I certainly wouldn't tell them not to. I am most likely to use this toy in less sexual ways, like as a massager, by pairing it with oil or lubricant and using it to help loosen my boyfriend's overworked muscles.

If you're adventurous like me, it can be inserted, though I don't necessarily recommend it, with the points of the heart shape protruding from the shaft of the toy. I recommend using it only externally, personally, especially since it can't be sterilized.

Material / Texture

The Twisted hearts Seduction is made of a hollow, hard plastic case, and coated with what EdenFantasys is calling TPR Silicone. (Click the link for information on this material.) The toy itself had an overall mechanical smell to it (hence the title), which was quite strong and has not dissipated whatsoever. In fact, the smell is actually worse, almost a lightly burnt motor smell, now that I've used it a couple of times. It tastes like slightly burnt rubber as well. The surface has a draggy, almost sticky, rubbery feel to it, which I didn't find distinctly pleasurable or offensive. As an external stimulator, I would say this one's good for beginners, but if you plan to insert it, which I still don't really recommend, you should be an advanced toy user and know your body quite well.

Design / Shape / Size

Overall, I think the design of the toy is quite whimsical and cute. I mean, what girl doesn't like hearts? I think it would do better to gets its name from elsewhere, though, and leave the points off the shaft of the toy. It would feel great to be able to insert such a buzzy, rumbly toy. As a clitoral vibe, this toy works pretty well, though I'm not a fan of clitoral vibrators as a general rule. The size and material make it easy to hold onto, and internally it's a good shape to reach my shallowest sweet spot.

I wouldn't say this toy is very discreet. It looks like what it is: a vibrator with funny points on it. The dial on the bottom screams: "Twist me, I make fun things happen!" It's also not very travel friendly. It doesn't come with its own bag, and if you were to leave the batteries in it, it could probably turn on in your bag. Plus it likes to collect lint like nobody's business.

Functions / Performance / Controls

My favorite thing about the toy is its whimsical design. Barring looking at the thing, I'd have to say I like the deep, rumbly vibrations a lot. Every other vibrating toy we own is more buzzy and higher-pitched, but this one is quite deep in its vibration, making it great for deep tissue massage as well as sexual stimulation. The vibrations are located mostly in the tip, and they travel moderately well through the rest of the toy, not that they need to if you keep it outside your body. On its highest mode, it can definitely numb your hand after a while. I'm not really a fan of those funny points on the outside, caused by the twisted-heart design. I like to insert my toys, and these make it difficult, and could make it impossible or even painful for some.

The way the vibrations are controlled is by a dial at the butt of the toy. Doc Johnson seems to be completely enamored with this type of dial. When you first get the toy, there are no batteries, so you have to unscrew the back end completely, which removes the end of the toy and allows you to insert the batteries. Screw it back on, and it's all the way on when it starts to vibrate, or at least that's what happens in my hands. As you twist the dial, the vibrations increase in intensity, and there seem to be four distinct vibration settings. It can go from quite quiet and buzzy to a bit noisy and rumbling along well.

After playing with it for a while, of course I had to test the waterprooofness of it, so when I washed it, I dropped it into a sink full of water while still on. I left it there for several minutes, just buzzing away and making waves in my sink, and nothing was damaged. I'd say the waterproof claims are good.

Care and Maintenance

Being made of TPR, the Twisted Hearts Seduction should be washed before and after every use. This can be accomplished by using hot water and mild soap, or toy cleaner. Unlike silicone, it can't be boiled or bleached, so it can't be sterilized. Lay it on the counter on a towel to air dry.

The box the toy came in is great for storage, but if you don't want something so bulky, keep it in a plastic bag away from other toys. The material is not compatible with other toys, as they may leak dyes or damage one another chemically. I also recommend using only water-based lubricant, as oil- and silicone-based lubricants may damage or degrade the surface of the toy.

Packaging

The toy comes in a plastic tray that fits the shape of the toy perfectly, which is then inserted into a bulky plastic box. I accidentally already threw away the box, so unfortunately I can't tell you all exactly what was on it, but it did provide information as to what type of batteries it requires, and what the toy is coated with on the outside. As I said before, the box was great for storage if you don't mind something so bulky, but I wrapped ours in plastic wrap and made a little velvet bag for it like I do with almost all of our toys.

Experience

This toy is definitely not one of my favorites, but considering the cost and the company, it's a back-of-the-drawer keeper. It feels good to rest the first heart-tip point against the top of the clitoris and let the vibrations stimulate the underside of the organ, rumbling not only the clit but the top of the opening of the vagina as well. This over time brought me very close to orgasm, though vibration alone can't bring me completely, and with just a little manual help I came the rest of the way.

A note on inserting this toy into the vagina: I know I mention this quite a lot, but despite the fact that I do it, I really don't recommend others do. That being said, I'll give my experience with it, since others may try anyway. It feels pretty good... once you get past that funny first point. Since it points outward and toward the end of the toy, it kind of pokes a bit unless you and the toy are well-lubricated. I highly recommend a condom and some water-based lube. Once inside, the point rests against the G-spot, and the vibrations feel great. Paired with a bullet to my clit, it's actually a one-handed way to get off quick (the Twisted Hearts will stay in on its own).

Great job on the review. I agree the design of this, while cute, isn't the greatest for use. It works ok as a clit vibe for me due to the rumbly vibrations, but insertion was uncomfortable.
  • Contributor: MeliPixie
Indeed... I hear a lot of people said the same thing. I find a lot of lube helps with that, but since it isn't really intended for insertion, I didn't dock it points for the fact that it's uncomfortable. Thanks for reading and saying more than just "thank you: or something ^_^

Hm. Since it has those points, I imagine the first inch or so might feel interesting anally without slipping past the first point due to its angle... Thoughts anyone...? (Sorry if this is weird, I have a tendency to put things in my butt... hah!)

That sucks yours had an odor to it. Mine didn't have an odor, thank god. I really hate that.

Yeah... It's pretty off-putting. I noticed after using it one time, my "area" was lightly mechanical0scented. I don't use it anymore. The follow-up review is coming soon!
