Who needs a butterfly when you've got this caterpillar? (Video Review)

This cute little bug is a great addition to anyone's toy collection, both in terms of looks and performance.
In my opinion it's less than ideal for internal use, but works wonderfully as an external vibe, with plenty of power for clit stimulation as well as feeling lovely rubbed over any other areas you might choose. It's small and virtually silent in use, so it's a great discreet vibrator if privacy is a concern.

Use

The Baby Bug by Fun Factory really is a beautiful mini vibe, perfect for beginners and sex toy fiends alike.
The Bug is about 5" long, running on two AAA batteries, so it's a powerful little package and one that's super quiet to boot. Made of gorgeous silicone, the texture and shape make it perfect for some external stimulation and massage. The little nubs of the caterpillar's legs, combined with the ridged segments of his body feel wonderful rubbed various places, whilst his head can be used for some more pin-point stimulation. Though the vibe is waterproof and insertable I'd suggest most would find it a little small for vaginal use and best suited to external stimulation. It's really not designed for anal use as it lacks a suitable base and probably just isn't the most comfortable shape, so stick with massaging the area externally instead.

The fact that this little bug is small and practically silent really makes it useful as a discreet vibe that you can slip into your drawer or bag and take with you anywhere. It also handy for those who need a bit of privacy when they play as you can't hear it through covers, let alone a closed door! However, keep in mind it is a mini vibe, so it might not pack the same punch as a bigger toy, but the deep, thrumming vibrations make up for what it might lack in raw power.

Material / Texture

The Baby Bug is made out of Fun Factory's lovely smooth and silky silicone, with what I assume is an ABS plastic battery compartment at the bottom. The vibe doesn't have any smell or taste that I could notice, which is a real plus in my book. The silicone has a little bit of give to it, but it's still firm enough to get busy with in whichever ways tickle your fancy. As I mentioned before, the texture is really divine and I think this makes it perfect for external play because it feels great on your skin, used for a bit of intimate massage or slicked up with some water-based lube.

Design / Shape / Size

The Baby Bug is designed to look like a cute little caterpillar, complete with little nubby legs and a big smiling face on the head. The colour is a great lime green and suits the little guy completely - it's fresh and bright and perfect for a bug. It has a diameter of only 1 1/4" and is about 5" long in total, which means it's not intimidating in the slightest and could be great for some first time toy users. However, don't let this fool you into thinking it's just good looking - it really works well too. The vibrations are pretty strong for only two AAA batteries and can be felt well throughout, meaning when it's used externally you have the whole length to play with. For pinpoint stimulation of the clit and other areas, the head is best and is firm enough to apply pressure with, but has the lovely pillowy feel of silicone on top. When inserted the ridges do feel quite nice, but with such a small diameter it's not going to give you those really full sensations thicker toys can. Similarly, its 4" of insertable length wouldn't be enough for most to be satisfied with.

Functions / Performance / Controls

The controls on this little caterpillar are very simple and easy to use, simply a set of plus and minus buttons. One press turns the vibe on, then each subsequent press notches up the vibrations one level. There seems to be eight levels of steady vibrations (in my video review I thought there were only six, but a recount came out with eight). You can quickly reach the maximum or minimum setting by pressing and holding down the plus or minus button, instead of pushing it to go up or down through the settings one by one. Once you're at the max setting another press of the plus button switches to the vibrations patterns, which you can cycle through with the plus button. There are three of these, the first being a medium length escalating bzzzZZZZ bzzzZZZ sort of pattern, the second a shorter escalating pattern more like bzZZ bzZZ and the third a quick pulse somewhat like BZ BZ BZ BZ. To switch back to the steady vibrations all it takes is a press of the minus button. Though there is no dedicated on and off switch the press and hold method makes it easy to turn this vibe off in a hurry, so it doesn't really make much of a difference to how the toy functions overall.

Even when using the patterns or the highest level of vibrations this vibe is super quiet. You definitely can't hear it through covers or a closed door, so it's great when you need a bit of privacy. However, it doesn't sacrifice power in exchange for silence, for two AAA batteries it gives a really satisfying amount of power. It's not as strong as a bullet, but it's a lovely quiet and deep thrumming sort of vibration, that feels wonderful. The box states that this is 'absolutely waterproof', which it appears to be after a quick dip in the sink and splash in the shower, but the instructions suggest that you should take out the batteries and dry out the compartment when you do use it somewhere moist, just to ensure nothing goes wrong.

Care and Maintenance

As the Baby Bug is waterproof a quick wash with some anti-bacterial soap and water should clean it up just fine for solo play. If you want to share it you could wipe it down with a 10% bleach solution, but don't boil it - you'll have one very dead caterpillar on your hands! Stick with water based lubes to ensure there are no nasty reactions with the silicone in silicone lubes and be sure to store the Bug in a little pouch, to keep it away from other silicone toys and to prevent it collecting lint and other bits and pieces.
