You're My Thrill

I did not think I would like Joni. For one thing - she's plastic and not silicone. For another thing - she's SHORT or at least shorter than I like.

Her DEEP vibrations blew me away. Used clitorally or vaginally she brought me great pleasure. As I sit here writing this review and hold her in my hand while she's running, when I close my hands around her, the vibrations go through my arm and down into the desk and make it move also.

In other words - Joni ROCKS and she's a star.

You're my thrill
You do something to me
You send chills right through me
When I look at you
'Cause you're my thrill
- From "You're My Thrill" as sung by Joni Mitchell

I wasn't sure who this vibrator was named after and contacted Doc Johnson but they haven't replied to me yet. So I googled "Rock Music & Joni" and found that Joni Mitchell, who I often considered to be more of a folk singer has been very influential on rock music. What a surprise.

As a child, Joni was a polio patient in a hospital and sang to other patients to cheer them. This gave her the start to what would become her eventual career.

I will share more about Joni near the end of this review - but for now - let's talk about vibrators.

I debated about ordering her for a couple of reasons. For one thing, she is made of plastic and not silicone. I often find plastic to be hard to use because it doesn't have the flexibility that silicone has. In addition, it is only 1.25" in diameter and 3.5" insertable. I like bigger toys both when it comes to length and girth.

Still yet, I loved most of the rock star line that I had so far - so I decided to add Joni to our collection. Now that she's here, I am so glad that she's joined our band because with her deep, rumbly vibes, she adds a new level of harmony to our music.

While Joni is a traditional vibrator and you can use her vaginally, I do not recommend her for G-spot use because she is not angled. She would be great for thrusting or simply for stimulating the vagina with vibrations while using another toy on your clitoris. I also really enjoyed her when we used her to stimulate my clitoris and usually a bullet is the only thing that will work for me there. But Joni proved that her deep rumble can hit the trickiest of places if you're patient and willing to give her a bit of time.

In spite of her seductive low rumbles, please do not use Joni for anal play. She does not have a flared base and is very easy to "lose" even in the vagina (guess how I know?) - so be safe and only use her for vaginal or external stimulation.

Material / Texture

I was concerned that I would not like Joni because she is plastic. There have been a few plastic toys that I have enjoyed if they have a velvet feel to them, but so many are slick and just don't seem very attractive or comfortable to hold in your hand.

For plastic, Joni is very soft to the touch. She is not flexible and is rigid but her texture feels soft when you hold her in your hands. Because of this, she performs best when she has a bit of lubricant added since she has a bit of drag.

Her texture would be fine for beginners and advanced users alike.

Design / Shape / Size

I love Joni's design but then again - I love bulged vibrators. She has a total of 3 bulges. The top bulge is 2" long and 5" in circumference. The second bulge is 1" long and the same circumference and the third bulge is .5" long with the same circumference.

While Joni is considered to be 3.5" insertable and 5" total length, my body sort of got to rocking along with the vibrations so much that she became 4.99" insertable and a bit hard to pry out. However, even though that happened, I did not feel any pain from her metal-like band which separates her insertable part from the handle.

I am surprised at how much I enjoy Joni's girth because I normally use larger toys. However, because her vibrations are so strong and her plastic is not flexible, the vibrations are very VERY deep and rumbly and she gives me as much pleasure as her larger counterpart, Rock Star Tina. In fact, the more I think about it, I may even like her more than Tina and I will have to try them both in my next play session.

Because of her 1.25" girth and her bulges, I recommend her for advanced toy users who already know the size and textures that they like. I am not sure if she would fit for a new user or a virgin.

Functions / Performance / Controls

Joni is very very easy to work with. She has one of the best guides to inserting batteries that I have ever seen and you can not close her cover without inserting a post which is in the cover into a hole that is beside the batteries. In other words, there is no way to screw her cover on incorrectly once you know what you are doing.

Her push button controls at the bottom are very easy to use to cycle through all three speeds. Only once during our lengthy playtime did we accidentally push the button and change the speed and that was my fault because I was trying to move her a bit without seeing her. The vibrations on all three speeds can be felt throughout her. If you choose, you can use her for pinpoint stimulation and still enjoy it, but I prefer the fact that her vibrations can be felt throughout her.

She performed beautifully in the water and had no problems at all.

I find her to be very quiet - in fact, I find her to be extremely quiet in spite of her power. When I turn her on and hold her in my hand you can hear her a bit but not overly much. Even on the lowest setting, you can see my hand vibrate while I'm holding her.

Care and Maintenance

Joni is so easy to please when it comes to taking care of her and giving her a home between play sessions.

Because she is made of plastic that is food-grade material, she can be cleaned by washing her down with a bit of antibacterial soap and water, using a toy wipe, or wiping her down with isopropyl alcohol. She is hypo-allergenic, latex free and phthalates free.

The nice thing about plastic is that she can be used with any type of lube - oil based, water based or silicone based.

She can be stored with other toys which helps make her easy to care for.

Packaging

You can see pictures of her packaging on the product's main page. It is basically a mostly clear plastic box with a tag to hang it on a peg if it can't be displayed on a shelf. It is not discreet and while it could be used to give this as a gift, I would not do so in front of other people if the recipient might be embarrassed.

I prefer to toss the original packaging but you could choose to store Joni in it if you wished.

Joni has received many awards for her music and is considered a classic. I suspect that Rock Star Joni will become a classic for her deep vibes too.

Experience

I would like to point out that I have all five of the Rock Star vibrators that Eden sells so far and one difference between Joni (and Patti) and their larger counterparts Stevie, Tina and Janis - is that the Joni and Patti both use 3 AAA batteries versus the two AAA batteries that the larger vibrators use. I'm not sure if it is the additional battery or the fact that these two vibrators are made of plastic and smaller in length but Doc Johnson has done something to make their vibrations deeper and rumblier than Stevie, Tina and Janis. I am very pleased with Joni's deep rumbly vibes.
