Dolphin Cock Ring - Flipper Is Mostly A Flop

The Dolphin Cock Ring is brilliantly designed for female pleasure, but it seems they forgot about the men who actually have to wear the ring. If you have a slimmer penis, or if a death grip on your penis is your idea of good time, then you should give the Dolphin ring a try. Everyone else should stay away or risk having your penis turn the same color as the pretty blue dolphin cock ring.

Use

The Dolphin cock ring has a lot of potential, but falls flat in actual performance. This ring is designed for mutual stimulation and is meant to be worn around both the penis and scrotum to prolong sex. The small ring is supposed to go around the shaft and rest at the base. The large ring is designed to fit around the scrotum. While the dolphin is very effective at clitoral stimulation, the death grip of the penis ring will make it extremely uncomfortable for a lot of men to wear this ring.

Material / Texture

The Dolphin cock ring is made of TPR, which is a rubber polymer blend. It looks and feels like it is made of jelly, only less stretchy. The ring is mostly smooth, but there texture gets bumpy underneath the dolphin. The bumps are supposed stimulate the labia, but I couldn't even feel them. They are soft and flexible so they won't cause any pain or discomfort.

The TPR had a bit of an unpleasant smell to it when I first opened the package. I immediately cleaned it and then let it air out. This seems to have worked, as the smell is now undetectable unless you feel the need to shove the ring up your nose.

Aside from the smell, the other problem with the TPR is that it clings to everything. This includes hair that is still attached to your body. The penis owner’s who aren’t clean-shaven should be very careful when taking the ring off; hair removal by a Dolphin is not pleasant.

The bullet is made of plastic, and is non-porous and phthalate-free. The bullet is easy to clean with soap and water or toy cleaner. The plastic is compatible with silicone and water-based lubricants.
    • Light odor
    • Somewhat porous
    • Sticky / pulls hair

Shape / Design / Size / Fit

The cock ring is approximately 4” long from the top of the dolphin to bottom of the unstretched outer ring. The dolphin at the top of the rings is about 2” long. By the dolphins fins there are two holes meant to accommodate the bullet. The dolphin cock ring has two distinct rings. The small, thick ring in the middle, the one that goes around the penis, is about ½” in unstretched diameter. The maximum stretched diameter is about 1 ¾”. Although it stretches, the material is very unforgiving, it may not fit comfortably on men of average or greater than average girth. There are nubs on this ring that are intended to stimulate the labia. The larger scrotum ring is 1 ½” in diameter unstretched and about 4” stretched.
    • Can fit over both shaft and testicles
    • May be too tight for some
    • Tight fitting

Functions / Performance / Controls

The Dolphin cock ring comes with a silver bullet. The bullet requires three watch batteries, which are included with the ring. To insert the batteries twist of the bottom of the bullet to reveal the battery chamber and then follow the instructions on the packaging. The bullet has seven (7) different settings and they are changed with the button on the end of the battery cap. When I’m not using the ring, I get great amusement out of watching the dolphins nose move with the vibrations on the fifth (5th) and sixth (6th) setting.

The bullet is really powerful. It is actually the most powerful bullet I own. The bullet does get a little loud on higher settings, but not loud enough to be heard through a closed door. The only problem I have with the bullet is that it doesn’t always function properly. I have had problems with it not turning off, skipping some settings, or getting stuck on a setting and not turning off. I haven't read about anyone else having this problem, so I think it is just my bullet. To solve this problem I just unscrew the battery cap to turn it off. Usually when I replace the cap and turn the bullet back on the problem has resolved itself, at least temporarily.

The bullet claims to be waterproof, and it does have a O-ring around the battery compartment that should protect from water. However, I have not tested this out in the water because of the issues I am already having with the bullet.
    • Easy to use
    • Strong vibrations
    • Very stimulating

Care and Maintenance

The ring is made of TPR, which is a porous material, so it cannot be sterilized. TPR can be cleaned with warm water and mild soap or toy cleaner. Silicone and water based lubricants are compatible with this ring. Since the TPR is so unforgiving, I recommend using lubricant when putting the ring on.

The Dolphin cock ring is a lint magnet so it is pretty difficult to keep clean. If it were bigger I’d be using it to clean, it is better than my vacuum at picking up all my hair. If you don’t plan to store it in the original container, be sure to store it in plastic or a lint-free bag so you won’t have a hairy dolphin on your hands the next time you pull it out.
    • Difficult to store
    • Hard to clean

Packaging

The packaging for the Dolphin cock ring is not discreet. It is a pre-molded plastic package with an insert depicting a half-naked woman on both sides. The insert states that the ring is waterproof and has 7 vibration patterns.

As far as instructions go, the insert has a small diagram to show how to insert the battery and really tiny instructions about how to use the ring. The package pretty good for storage, since there are pre-molded spots for the ring and the three batteries, but it is still not discreet. Removing the insert makes it slightly more discreet, but the ring is still completely visible through the packaging.
    • Minimal
    • Not discreet
    • Recyclable

Experience

This was our first experience with a cock ring and, unfortunately, it might be our only experience for quite some time. I received the ring as a free gift and I was excited to give it a try. I just kept staring longingly at it until my boyfriend finally arrived in the country. Yes, I know I could have tested it out on one of my toys, but I wanted to save it so my boyfriend and I could test the waters together. If only I had tested it out on my finger, then I could have avoid this disaster. No sooner had he gotten the ring on, than his eyes began to well up with tears. He was willing to solider on, but I convinced him to remove it – and in the process painfully rip out some hair that was sticking to the ring. According to my boyfriend the scrotum ring fit just fine, but the smaller ring that goes around the shaft is just far too tight.

Since this is useless to my boyfriend, I have used it a few times on my traditional vibrators for the sake of research. The dolphin hits my clitoris perfectly, I just wish the material carried the vibrations better.
Follow-up commentary
We definitely do not use the ring part anymore. I got rid of it after the painful first try, but I've held on to the bullet and still use it occasionally. We've tried the bullet in other cock rings with some success, but it is still a bit glitchy. It will get stuck on a setting so that you have to remove the batteries to turn it off.

Even though the bullet still gets some use, I've used the bullet so infrequently that it is still running on the original batteries. When the batteries run out the bullet will be retired with the rest of the cock ring.

This is really good to know because my partner has a lot of girth to his penis and I would hate for him to be uncomfortable in it thanks for the review!

Yep I have had that problem with toys when they don't fit you are now stuck with a toy you will probably never use again. I have learned to read the size chart carefully LOL.

@sktb0007 - Thanks! I would definitely stay away from this ring and probably any other one made with TPR. The material is just too unforgiving.

@The-IT-Guy-And-My-Secretary - Thanks for the advice! I will definitely pay more attention next time! At least this was a free gift and not something I paid for.

By the way, 'N' batteries are not watch batteries. 'N' batteries are bigger (about half the size of AAA) and just require one per bullet whereas watch batteries usually require 2-3 per bullet. Thanks for the review.

@Jimbo Jones - Good catch! I mixed up N and LR44. Thanks for pointing out the mistake!
