Intense vibration but too tight

The Power Ring is an affordable way to try out the erection-enhancing and stimulating effects a vibrating cock ring adds to solo or partnered play. Compared to most entry-level vibrating rings, this one has more variety due to its waterproof 3-speed vibrating bullet. However, the material of the Power Ring is less stretchy than similar rings, making it harder to put on and remove, and possibly making it too constrictive for comfort.

Pros
3-speed bullet, extra batteries included, low odor material, carries vibration well.

Use

The primary focus of vibrating cock rings is to enhance pleasure during intercourse for both the penetrating and receiving partner. Cock rings apply pressure to the veins on the surface of the penis, such that blood enters the penis easily, but is restricted in leaving. The result for most users is a harder and longer-lasting erection. Additionally, some cock rings such as this one hold a vibrator that can provide additional stimulation, particularly to the clitoris if the receiving partner is female. The vibrations are also transmitted throughout the ring, making the penis (or dildo) of the wearer vibrate.

There are two ways to wear a cock ring. The most simple way is to use the ring on just the penis. More complicated is to wear the ring such that it surrounds both the base of the penis and the testicles. However, this ring is somewhat too small and not stretchy enough to comfortably wear in the second fashion. This particular cock ring is probably best used as a ring around the cock only. The waterproof construction of the vibrating bullet makes the Power Ring suitable for water play.

As this ring is made of flexible TPR and could (in an emergency) be cut off with ease, it is beginner-friendly.

Material / Texture

The Power Ring is made of TPR (thermoplastic rubber) which is a lower-odor material. While it isn't completely odorless like silicone or glass, it has only a slight plastic smell that is only noticeable when sniffed directly. While not tacky, the material does have quite a bit of drag, so it might be advisable to apply some lube to the ring or wearer when putting it on. There are obvious seams on the ring, but being that this is not an insertable toy, they did not cause any issues during use.

Though the packaging claims that the Power Ring is "incredibly stretchy", it should be noted that the material doesn't live up to the claim. Yes, it is more stretchy than hard rings, but not nearly as stretchy as the 3 other rings I have, all of which are made from TPR or TPE.
    • Light odor
    • Somewhat porous

Shape / Design / Size / Fit

The Power Ring is well shaped for the most part. The position of the clitoral stimulator is just right, and makes good contact during penetration. I'm not so sure about what California Exotics calls the "triple contact", the lower portion of the ring which sticks out with the objective of stimulating the receiver's perineum. When I was wearing the ring however, the stretching of the ring causes it to slightly deform and make the "triple contact" angle lower. In this case, the stimulator instead makes contact with the receiver's anus, which could be good or bad, depending on where your partner stands with regards to ass play.

As mentioned previously, the Power Ring is less stretchy than many other "soft" rings made of the same or similar materials. It seems like part of the lack of stretch is due to the thickness of the ring, which is about twice as thick as similar rings. The reason for this additional thickness is to house the two magnets which are molded into the ring. While opinions on the effect of magnets on sexual performance vary, regardless of the outcome, I don't think it's worth the lost flexibility to put the magnets in the ring. The loss of stretch makes the ring a bit harder to put on and take off. It is still workable, albeit less friendly for a first-time user. Though I'm not exactly girthy (4.5" circumference), I found the ring to be a bit too tight, becoming uncomfortable eventually. For larger than average users, this ring may be too constricting. The product page lists the maximum stretch diameter as 5", but it was hard to stretch to just half that size.
    • May be too tight for some
    • Only fits on penis shaft

Functions / Performance / Controls

A significant feature of the Power Ring in this price range is its 3-speed vibrating bullet. Whereas most vibrating cock rings have only single-speed bullets, the Power Ring has a variety of intensities. Though it the same size as your typical single-speed silver bullet, instead of just clicking on and off, the Power Ring's bullet cycles through low (rumbly), medium (a blend of rumble and buzz), and high (which is super buzzy). The high setting is surprisingly powerful and will actually numb your fingers if you're holding it. For solo use, the low setting gave the deepest vibrations and was relaxing and stimulating to the penis and balls. On higher settings, the clit stimulator carries the vibration very effectively. The sound level of the vibrating bullet varies with the setting. At low it is barely audible, medium is still fairly quiet, but on high the vibrations have an overtone and some rattle that makes it louder. The high setting thus may be best reserved for when an extra "boost" is needed to climax.

The bullet has a substantial rubber o-ring that is compressed when the cap is screwed on, making the bullet waterproof. The bullet will only turn on when the cap is tightly closed, which helps ensure that the bullet is ready for water play.

It's notable that the holder for the vibrator is quite small compared to the vibrator. Combined with the lack of stretchiness of the material, it can be difficult to get the bullet in position. Applying lube to the bullet does make it easier, though take care to keep everything lined up to avoid unnecessary stretching around the seams. I would recommend inserting the bullet prior to putting the ring on.
    • Strong vibrations
    • Very stimulating

Care and Maintenance

Being TPR, the Power Ring is fairly simple to care for. Soap and water or toy cleaner can be used for cleaning the ring, though users should keep in mind that TRP is porous and cannot be completely sterilized. However, since soft cock rings aren't particularly expensive, you could feasibly have extras rings for extra partners, as long as each ring is "reserved" in a orderly fashion, such as in labeled zippered bags. Eden's material page lists compatibility with water-based and silicone lubes, however, the packaging recommends water-based only, so it might be better to stick the more restrictive guidelines.

Since the ring is not sticky, I keep it in a small cloth bag with my condoms and other cock rings and vibrating bullets. I have not noticed any material incompatibility problem under these storage conditions. I would recommend keeping the Power Ring away from jelly toys, however.
    • Easy to clean
    • Easy to store

Packaging

The Power Ring is packaged in a paperboard box printed with an image of the ring and details of its features. The packaging is reasonably discreet, as it has no nude or suggestive models, only pictures of the box's contents.

The packaging does not provide any instructions for using the ring, aside from recommendations on cleaning and type of lubricant to use (water-based). The only usage information on the packaging is various warnings, such as not to wear the ring for more than 30 minutes at a time, and to space out usage to allow an hour before wearing the ring again (typical recommendations for cock rings).

Compared to the size of the ring, the box is fairly large, making it inefficient for storage. I instead keep the Power Ring in a small bag with other rings, as well as condoms and other small sex accessories.
    • Minimal
    • Recyclable

Personal comments

Upon opening the packaging, I was pleased to find that California Exotics included an extra set of button-cell batteries with the Power Ring. Also, though the Power Ring wasn't the best fit for me, the 3-speed bullet fits perfectly in my other rings and is a great upgrade to those rings.
