Cock rings come in a variety of types, shapes and sizes. The more difficult it is to use, the more effective it usually is, but this also means an increase in caution should be taken. The name of Doc Johnson's Metal Cock Ring Xtra Thick tells you that this is a metal cock ring. The Xtra Thick refers to the the 3/4" thickness of the ring. I have to admit 3/4" is pretty thick. The objective is to get the cock ring on around the shaft and behind the testicles so that it restricts blood flow out of the penis which should make for a firmer, longer lasting erection. The best way to get the ring on is to insert the testicles one at a time and then push the penis through. This usually needs to be done while flaccid and it helps if the genitals are warm and relaxed. A warm bath beforehand can be a good way to prepare.

Metal presumably represents the least forgiving material available for cock rings. There may be other materials that are as stiff as metal but it is probably the strongest. The Metal cock ring xtra thick is lighter than the stainless steel rings I have experience with, so it is probably made out of aluminum. It has a black coating and is smooth, but Mine was tight enough that my pubic hair was actually more uncomfortable than I expected.

Another option is to use the smaller diameter rings just around the testicles for a slightly different effect. The 1-3/4" ring I have took some effort to get over the shaft, and I considered just using it around the testicles, but the additional effort was worth it as the effect on my erection was noticeable and pronounced.

Since cock rings are non-insertion, care is generally pretty simple. The aluminum material of the metal cock ring xtra thick makes care even simpler. It can be washed with soap and water or toy cleaner. It can also be boiled or bleached to sterilize it, if one is so inclined. Other than that, toss it in your drawer and it will calmly wait for the next time it is needed.

The metal cock ring xtra thick comes in relatively minimal packaging. The ring is in a molded plastic hanging case with a cardboard backing. There is a caution on the back of the cardboard insert. It says: "prolonged and frequent use of penis enhancing devices may cause ruptured blood vessels, hemorrhage, and hematoma formation. These devices can also aggravate existing medical conditions such as pegranies disease urethral stricture. Penis enhancing devices should always be used with discretion." Although this is good advice, I think that usage information is usually more useful. Including information like "limit use to 30 minutes at a time" and "wait at least two hours before using again" is more appreciated.

The metal cock ring xtra thick was pretty straight forward in my opinion. The 1-3/4" diameter ring I used took some effort to put on, but it had a definite impact on my erection. My erection was easy to achieve and stronger than usual. The interesting thing is that the first time I used it, my erection didn't last longer than it usually does. There seemed to be an increase in sensation that caused me to climax pretty quickly. This is unusual in my experience with cock rings, but it seems to be more of an anomaly than anything else. I thought it worth mentioning as a cock ring does not necessarily provide an extended experience depending upon the situation.
