Xana and Dax: When Opposites Attract - dvd by Comstock Films - review by Polyserena

Having watched a couple of pretty sexy instructional videos I thought it would be nice to try watching something purely for enjoyment. I preferred to look for porn that is real and about pleasure, so I focused on the Comstock line. I chose this one about a very attractive married couple. Dax is quite a slim guy with well defined muscles and Xana is large breasted with a fit appearance and a distinctively tattooed back. They try to give an insight into their sexual relationship and their attraction to each other. I really feel bad for diminishing a real couple’s approach to sex, but I just didn’t enjoy watching this as much as I thought I would, and I haven’t watched this film in quite some time.


I liked the idea that the couple would be interviewed first so that I could see what they were like. This interview was interspersed with hot sex scenes from their filmed sexual encounter, which was aired in full afterwards. But even though I got the sense that they were pretty cool people, I didn’t get the sense of finding out what their relationship was really like. Perhaps I’m a bit fussy, but I got the feeling that they were holding back a bit. They spoke easily about their meeting and their attraction to each other but I found that there was an over-focus on the how different they were as per the title ‘when opposites attract’, especially in relation to their bodies. Their attraction to each other seemed overanalysed like a high school English project. Xana and Dax are porn stars and have apparently worked together in some films. I understand that this has been the focus of another Comstock DVD but it would have increased my connection to this couple if they spoke with a little detail on this subject, especially about what it is like working together.


I appreciated that Xana and Dax eased their way into lovemaking with some kissing cuddling, and the warmth between them was evident. As somebody that uses a maximum of about 3 positions in any lovemaking session I found the variety of positions that Xana and Dax used quite overwhelming. Sure I suppose variety is what you want to see in a porn film, but I had trouble imagining myself wanting quite so much variety in a session. I found myself wondering whether the variety was a part of their normal routine or if it had been for the cameras. It’s up to you to decide if this variety is a plus or a negative, but I thought it possibly would have been made more real to me had it been filmed over a couple of sessions. They also seemed to transition very swiftly and quietly from position to position (though I’m thinking that part of the problem was that I had the volume down too low to compensate for Xana’s loud moans to notice their subtle communications).


I think I would be very turned off by more hardcore movies, so in that sense this movie has done well. But I really do have a weak stomach. One thing I really disliked was the amount of saliva- Xana is a self pleasurer during sex (good for her!) but she does so by licking and dribbling saliva over her fingers for lubricant, and the amount of saliva she used in a blowjob was just incredible. Obviously some people will not see this in such a negative light as I, but I still wish she’d used lube on herself. The other thing I really didn’t like was the close ups of the genitals or anal region during sex. I’m sure those things are pretty standard in any porn movie, so I’m going to try not to downgrade it too much for that. On the flipside I have to give it kudos for having a focus on pleasure. There is something sexy about a guy who is willing to put their nose so close to the butt during cunnilingus, but I couldn’t help but cringe at this proximity. This is a couple that seems willing to do anything to please the other, even if I could not imagine my sexual repertoire being the same. It is hot, and people who don’t have aversions to that neck of the woods will find this approach refreshingly genuine. I thought that perhaps the movie would be better if I watched it with my partner. However he’s not a huge fan of porn in general, and the concept of the video did not appeal to him. I think I’ll stick to watching instructional videos. I can watch them with my partner and they’re often kind of sexy without the close ups. In the future I will consider watching more Comstock DVDs, especially “Marie and Jack: a hardcore love story”, which from other reviews seems to include the elements I thought this film lacked; a focus on their relationship considering their involvement in the porn industry, and the ability to choose the angle of the camera.
