Story of O
The Story of O, or Histoire d'O, is a book about a woman's transformation into a submissive young slave. It was written by a French writer, and written for fairly odd reasons, which make it understandable why it's such a horrid read. The book itself was so badly written that it truly made me feel sorry once I got to the end that I had wasted my time reading it. It was a frustration to read, and it isn't a good portrayal of BDSM, or any other, relationships.

The New Bottoming Book
This is considered one of the essential books for learning about BDSM. It does include a lot of great information you should know if you're a beginner - but only if you're a beginner. If you've been doing BDSM for awhile, you may want to look for a different book. For beginners, it's great though.
Good basics, gender inclusive, formal language, short stories, interesting, lots of topics.
It's just the basics, doesn't include safety information.

Claudia Varrin's Female Dominance is an interesting read for any beginning dominant woman, it does however have a strong heterosexual tone.
Full of information, good for beginners, written in a personal tone.

Safe Word
While I wasn't as impressed as I was with the prequel, "Carrie's Story", this novel was still a great book in itself. You get to follow Carrie as she tells the story of her year away from Johnathan while she was with a Master who strictly trained her, trained her as a pony girl, and made her serve with other submissives.
Great story, get a Dominant's and submissive's viewpoint, human pony racing, perfect length.
The switching points of view can get a little confusing.

The Compleat Spanker
This book is amazing! For someone that was in a relationship in which spanking was part of sex-play for over a year, I was hesitant to get this book. I thought I knew it all - but obviously I didn't! This book will put any reader at ease about their own fantasies and will help experienced spankers (and spankees) with things such as toy care - or where to find a partner.
Laymans terms used throughout book, book put me at ease about my own spanking fantasies.
Positions chapter could have had pictures next to each of the descriptions.

This book is definitely a beginner-oriented book, but it doesn't treat a female Dominant like one of those girl-magazine "Be Dominant In Bed" girls. It does truly explain what a lot of the activities are for a female that is serious about getting into BDSM.

Midori's book is a must-have for bondage beginners and collectors of beautiful rope bondage art. The instructions are surprisingly simple and easy to follow, and while I was slightly disappointed by the small number of diagrams and the lack of fancier techniques, I still think this is an excellent, high-quality book that's worth buying just so you can look at it.

Family Jewels, by Hardy Haberman is divided into a number of sections that break down CBT to its bare bones ingredients: from anatomy, to dangers, to toys, to “recipes” for hot CBT scenes. Interesting, informative, and smoking hot all at once, this book is a winner.
