Secrets of the Sexually Satisfied Woman by Hyperion - review by LucyLemonade

As a woman who has issues with libido and sexual obstacles such as Vulvar Vestibulitis, I have been searching for sources of information that can offer some help. I have read so many books on womens sexuality that I am sick of candles and sexy lingerie being stuffed down my throat. Most books give the impression that all I need to do is use lots of lube, wear lingerie, light candles and talk dirty and all my sexual issues will just magically disappear!

Luckily Secrets of the Sexually Satisfied Woman isn't one of those books. Yes, they do offer the use of candles, lube, and lingerie as sexual paraphernalia, but they also back up their information through research. The book itself was written after surveying 2,000+ women on sexual satisfaction. Inside the book you can find small tidbits of actual numbers of women who reported different topics.

Communication is stressed by the Berman sisters, and their discussion of communication goes further than dirty words and sexy phone calls. Relationship and individual health is shown as important to sexual health and they give a wealth of information to help strengthen both.

Unlike a majority of books I've read, the Berman sisters cover issues with sexuality that are not only products of mentality. Other books tend to focus on mental aspects and treat issues like low libido as strictly psychological problems. There are many sections throughout this book that discuss low libido issues as related to sexual dysfunction and hormonal deficiencies. And actual tips and advice are given to help with these concepts instead of the blanket statement of "consult a doctor".

One thing that stands out to me is a chapter on Sexual Past. This does not cover only sexual encounters in the past, but also sexual awareness and development along the life span. A sign that this is truly written by doctors is the fact that an emphasis is made to show that sexuality development can make a difference to sexual satisfaction through adulthood. Sexual Empowerment and Overcoming Physical Obstacles and Disabilities are also addressed.

I have to recommend this book, especially to those with an interest in female sexuality or sexuality in general. Even if you have the perfect sex life, this book will give tips and advice to keep it running smoothly throughout your life. I can not stress enough how much I enjoyed finally finding a book about women's sexuality that addressed physical, psychological and personal issues with libido and sexual satisfaction.

I plan on using this book as a jumping point to learning more about sexuality and sexual therapy in general. I believe it will be very useful to conquering my own libido issues.
