C.S.I. didn't get furry right. Omaha did.

Omaha is well written and actually more based on the characters than just sex and porn. There is something real. Yes, it is more furry than anything, but the characters could be anyone or any person, not just furries.

For most people, C.S.I.'s "Fur and Loathing in Las Vegas" is their introduction to furry. But they did miss the mark, mostly. They did get a little bit right, but not enough.

Omaha The Cat Dancer hit the mark. It's just anthropomorphic characters living mostly everyday life and having hot sex when they can get it.

Coming from the time of the "funny animal" comics that were just lacking in sex or just had too much unreal sex, Omaha hit the market. It built slowly through the 70's and finally getting its own issues in the 80's. The original comic book issues came out from 1984 to 1993 and the very last installment was released in 2006 after the death of the writer Kate Worley.

Omaha is different from many of the sexually explicit comics that are out there. The story doesn't revolve around the sex, but the sex is just a part of the daily lives of the characters. Yes, it is graphic, but sex is graphic in real life. It is well written and there is wonderful character development. The story is wonderful and moves just as well as any other well-written, top of the line comic.

The artwork is very much a product of its time and the "funny animal" style. It's very simplistic, but at the same time there is a lot of life in those drawings.

Omaha was nominated for multiple Eisner Awards in 1989 and 1991. It says a lot for any comic book to be nominated for an Eisner Award, so you know it's going to be good.

If you can get past the fact that this is a furry comic, it's well worth picking up.

Too bad Eden only has the first collection of them or I would have bought the whole series.
Follow-up commentary
I loved The Complete Omaha The Cat Dancer Volume 1 that I have let more than a few friends read it and enjoy it too. I have also picked up a few more volumes of this comic. It just gets better and better.

OMG, how the fuck did you know? You also meet plenty of them at anime conventions...Yes I know from experience. There's a lot of freaky people at those events, and prudes....it's an interesting mashup

i know because i hang out with a lot of furries and am good friends with a lot of the costumers out there. hell, my avatar is a "furry" gas mask in a way. it belongs to my pet.

actually, the guys that do sound and lighting for me are all furries. just happens that they all are and they are some of the best in the biz. just cool people to hang out with.

LMAO at Twisted Finger! I don't know where I learned about it, but I do know I was the only one not confused during that episode!
