This book is written in a personal style and covers a variety of topics on BDSM. The 17 chapters begin by defining basic terms, then delve into interpersonal dynamics, ethics, communication, rights, and responsibilities. While there is only limited discussion of specific techniques, power dynamics are covered, and there are many personal examples and stories scattered throughout. Only a very unimaginative person could read this book and not get a few new ideas. The later parts of the book discuss toys, safety and handling emergencies, and finding partners. The tone is enthusiastic and personal. While it is geared towards beginners, it can be and is of value to more experienced players.
