Fetish Sex review

A well thought-out and researched primer on obscure and intriguing fetishes with incredibly hot erotica sections interspersed throughout the chapters on each fetish.

Well-researched academically and interesting read.

I would have liked visual aides to some of the more obscure fetishes.

Violet Blue’s Fetish Sex: An Erotic Guide for Couples|Fetish Sex: An Erotic Guide for Couples is an interesting read. It is a collaborative effort with erotica writer Thomas Roche, which gives an interesting perspective, look and feel to the book.

The first few chapters set up the tone of the book, speaking about how fetishes can be acquired and how to recognize whether you have a fetish or simply a fixation. Violet devotes a whole section on communicating your desires to your partner, and she reiterates that even though someone may have a fetish that is physically impossible, that it doesn’t necessarily mean that they want this particular fetish to come to life.

The book mainly concentrates on the different type of fetishes that can be found, such as medical play (patient/doctor), pony/puppy/kitty play, and adult baby play. The sections on body part fetishes (such as butt, lips, and ears) were interesting and they covered the usual parts, but also some that you wouldn’t think would be fetishized.

I somewhat enjoyed the book. I felt that the switch between the academic/intellectual discussion and the very well written erotica sections by Roche was a bit jarring. The erotica followed the chapters by having the theme of the previous chapter, such as medical play or puppy play, the story I found the most memorable.

I thought that the erotic interludes were an interesting touch, as the overall tone of the book was quite intellectual and academic. Though, as mentioned above, they were jarring, I felt that they were well done.

Another point: I would have liked the authors to add photos. They describe all of these fantastical fetishes but do not give us any assistance in visualization. With the erotic front cover, I expected at least a few sexy demonstrative photographs. Over all I wouldn’t say that the book was bad, it was just not what I was expectin given the title of "Fetish Sex" and the photo on the cover.

With such an enticing cover, I would totally have expected nice photography within.

I'm surprised it was so "meh," especially coming from Violet Blue.

But then again, I was pretty unimpressed with "A Smart Girl's Guide to Porn," so I guess it is pretty hit or miss.

Mmm. Porn. I think I'm going to go watch some :)

Which was the story you found the most memorable? Puppy play or medical play? Could you share some of the things they included in the story?

I also was very surprised that loads of photos were not included.
