Fifty Shades of Grey book 1 - erotic book by Vintage Books - review by silverdragonfly9

I have finished reading Fifty Shades of Grey and while the story was interesting and kept my attention it did not live up to all the hype with the sex scenes. If you are looking for a book with a lot of insight into BDSM this book will not do it for you. The whole Dom/ Sub part of this book was not researched well it seems like just the tip of what the life style really is and the only BDSM scenes stick to what some people just play with to spice things up. The other sex scenes just all read the same with not much variety. The story itself isn't very believable where Grey is involved. Just from the way the characters are explained it doesn't like Ana would have agreed to anything he asked. Now where Ana is involved she's an easier character to connect to, her inner conversations have good imagery and are really amusing. You could almost put yourself in her shoes.

Now onto the writing itself, a lot of statements are repeated in away that is actually a little annoying and makes the mistakes stick out that much more. For instance the characters keep bringing up a contract but a part of it talks about a minimum amount of sleep. At one point it says a minimum of 7 hours then later when she's rereading the same thing it say 8 hours minimum. Also the story jumps from one scene to another rather quickly making it feel like there are gaps in parts.

I did enjoy reading the book. I found it to be more along the lines of some of the romance novels I have read. I would not suggest this book if you are looking for a new erotica to read since it just doesn't have that element. However if you are looking for a quick read that will make you laugh its a pretty amusing book. Although if you're expecting it to live up to all the hype you may find yourself sadly disappointed.
