"If you're going to San Francisco"

The Good Vibrations Guide To Sex is one of those books that I would have died to have when I was first learning about sex and sexuality. It deals with it all in a very natural way and presents real stories from real people.

As a young woman, I was lucky enough to be growing up in a an area that has an open view of sex. How to do different sexual things depending on your orientation, how to be sexy with any kind of body type and a lot of other sex positive things where all over the place. It could be why I was aware of my sexuality and orientation at such an young age.

The Good Vibrations store was always something that was around by the time that I knew what sex was. I went into the shop shortly after my eighteenth birthday for the first time and loved it. And yes, there is really a reason why the place is so iconic. It truly is the first female run sex shop in the U.S. It's bright and welcoming. More like someone's home than any other sex shop that I have ever been in since then. The people there don't look down on you if you don't even know what a dildo or a vibrator is. They are more than happy to help you with anything about sexuality that you could ask. And if they don't know, they will find it for you.

The Good Vibrations Guide To Sex has the same open and welcoming feel that their shop has. It's written in a way that presents the education of sex in a way that is welcoming and isn't intimidating. This is the kind of book that I would have died for when I was first taking sex ed or taking my human sexuality classes in college.

Cathy Winks and Anne Semns spent time talking with their employes and customers, via questioner for this edition, to get stories about exploring sexuality and different parts of sexuality. There is so many personal stories about learning new things about sex, using sex toys and even about learning about body in new ways.

It presents a humanistic view of the body and how it works in sexual ways. It also deals with masturbation, the use of lubes, different types of sensual touching, all aspects of oral sex, different ways of having sex, a bit about kink, safe sex and naturally a lot about sex toys.

But hands down, The Good Vibrations Guide To Sex has one of my current favorite quotes, "you can find realistic images of penises in any art museum, but vulva lovers have to make do with Georgia O'Keefe paintings."
Follow-up commentary
The Good Vibrations Guide To Sex is now a coffee table book at my place more than anything. I have even picked up a few more copies for others that could totally use it.
