The author of this book is Tristan Taormino. A major force behind sex positive education she really knows what she's talking about! It's nice to see a book like this written by such a big name in the indusstry.

This book is about sex toys. From clitoral stimulators to bondage toys Taormino hits on all types. It's written for a beginner sex toy user so there's a lot of basic information. There are 23 chapters in the book plus a resource guide and introduction. The first 4 chapters talk about sexual anatomy, where to purchase sex toys and a primer on sex toy materials. The chapters after that are separated into type of toy: vibrators, bullets eggs and bunnies, clitoral vibes, wearable vibes, insertible vibes, dual action vibes, high tech and luxury vibes, penis sleeves and pumps, cock rings, dildos and wands, butt toys for him and her, strap ons, sensation toys, bondage, impact toys, sex furniture, lube, toy care and cleaning, and finally building your toy box.

Taormino does a great job explaining how the toys work and how to use them. She makes sure to hit the high points of the toys plus problems that can come with them.

However, the book can read a bit like a shopping guide; the chapter on clitoral vibrators seems to be filled more with the toys she prefers rather than more general descriptions on how the toys work. She does make sure to talk about safety though and the first section in the bondage chapter is about making sure to play safe.

The book is hardback and has thick glossy pages. They are filled with bright colors and beautiful erotic photography that fits with whatever chapter it's shown in. The pictures do show a little bit of how to use the toy; though it's not instructional nor graphic.

The book is put together very well and does hit on pretty much every kind of toy available. There are a lot of chapters thought his allows for each type of toy to have it's own chapter.

I thought the chapters were almost too specific, though Taormino makes it work. However I think it's great that bondage and kink got as much attention as it did.

This book is nice, though in my opinion there are better ones out there. For me, this one reads too much like a shopping guide; the toys and prices she lists could easily be changed or discontinued as many things of that nature are. Perhaps if an updated edition is put out every couple of years that can help with this at least a little.
