Kama Sutra: The Perfect Bedside Companion Book

The Kama Sutra: The Perfect Bedside Companion is a beautiful book. The satin red cover is nothing short of beautiful. I really like the little touch of the clasp that closes the book. However, I found it to fall short of being the “Perfect Beside Companion”. The book translates specifically the teachings of Kama Sutra, with no correspondence to modern day. So, if you are considering this book to teach you positions, you would do better to find something different. If the Kama Sutra teachings is what you are looking for, I would whole-heartedly recommend this book. It is a rather hard read as it has been translated. You have to read this book with the history of sex in mind. I love studying different cultures and have always been interested in Kama Sutra. It teaches the fundamentals and is portrayed from the male perspective. There are pictures in the book of different sexual positions but not many. The book explores the many parts of the Kama Sutra. My husband found the entries relating to keeping your significant other attracted to you very interesting. He has stated he is going to look for certain dung as specified to throw at me when we get into an argument, as a suggestion from the book. I found it to be quite interesting as to what is allowed and what is not. I also found the courtship interesting as well, how aggressive the man should be when courting a young woman. It was something that I was not expecting. However, I was disappointed. I was expecting more of a “bedside companion” in teaching different positions and such. Where as I found the text quite interesting, entertaining, and intriguing, it was not what I had expected. I will add this book to our library, but it most definitely will not find itself on my bedside. |

I am surprised that this rendition of Kama Sutra is so lacking , as compared to the original, which was presented to me on my 14th birthday, as a part of our centuries old family tradition of initiaiting boys to be lovers and worshippers of the female form and all the poetic imagery which goes in describing each part of female anotomy. How about, 'Pair of golden pots of honey', or 'two half moons' of your beloved. Or with your beloved wide open, admiring the divine scene, full of love looking at the mystic triangle and whispering into her years, ' Verdant valley's longing for that long lasting cloud burst deep inside its crevices!' Or 'Verdant valley longing for that long shaft of lighting to warmly strike dep inside her very being.'!
