Must have missed the "wild" part

If you can help it, skip this book. I'm sure there are a bunch of better "kink" or "wild sex" books out on the market to read.

Pros

boring, expensive for a group of "essays", not something I'd refer back to

extremely useful review
I wanted to give this book a fair chance, so I read 3/4 of it. And that's where I stopped.

I consider myself to be submissive, but I have never been in a true D/s relationship. However, I have friends who live that lifestyle 24/7, I've read about it, and have watched more than your average porn movie on the subject. I don't believe I'm a hardened veteran of the lifestyle, but I'm no newbie, either.

What I did not like about this book is that the first half is so boring it put me to sleep. It also didn't tell me anything that I didn't already know. And with that said, I also could not identify with some of the scenarios that Midori put forth. So this made it kind of difficult to understand what she was trying to convey.

The second half was a little more interesting, but not enough to make me not want to skip paragraphs or sections.

What angered me the most about this book is how she regards anyone who isn't from San Francisco or the "East Coast" as frigid redneck hillbillies (my words, not hers). There's a particularly offensive passage where she talks about having her slave suck her silicone cock at the Folsom Street Fair. She follows it up with "But I don't think I can do that in Fargo without being brutally beaten up" (page 21). Statements like that just point out her ignorance and lack of respect for people who do not fit into her own social bubble (ie: San Francisco). I live in the upper Midwest and am really offended that she would think people would "brutally" beat her up. And I'm sure the people of Fargo wouldn't be too happy to read that, either.

I probably should have stopped reading there, but I continued on. Only to be more bored than informed. I was also turned off by the many typos in this book. You'd think the editor would have caught them before it was sent to publishing. Maybe most people would not pick up on them, but it annoys me a great deal when I see them in a book.

Like I said, I could only get through about 3/4 of this book. I didn't find it very informative or educational. I basically found a bunch of essays Midori has written for other publications where she talks about what she's into and what's best for her. Or, she answers questions posed to her by her fans. I know that it's good to write about your experiences, but after a while I got the feeling that I was somehow lacking in my "kink" factor because I'm not into drinking pee out of a wine glass or being fisted by some guys foot while wearing PVC. Everyone has their own kink, whether it be mild or wild, and this book shouldn't make us feel bad about any of it.

But it does.
Follow-up commentary
I still think this book is terrible. Don't waste your time or money. It's pretentious and only really focuses on what the author is into.

Good review---her attitude really upset me in places too (the 'you'd be beaten up in Fargo' comment among others), and she generally seemed too pompous for my tastes. I did learn a bit in the conference-styled 'how to train your inner Domme' essay, and the foot hedonist essay made me giggle, but overall she just seemed... not my style, I guess.

Yes, maybe that's it. Her writing style is just not something that jives with me. Therefore, this book just did not offer up what I was hoping.
