Not Another Porn Collection

This is one of those books that is just a damn good read! It is intelligent, insightful, and colorful. It blends people and situations with the dexterity of a barrista! It is at times funny, sad and left me totally satisfied in the end. If this is the direction that EF is going in for media I'm going to need a bigger bookcase.

Silk by Rupert James is not the usual fare offered here at EdenFantasys. Rather than a How To book or a collection of various porn stories, this is a story that will suck you in and keep you reading.

This book is 473 pages of gripping intrigue and intricate webbing binding a group of people in ambition and revenge. There is a small amount of fairly graphic sex but this is a story that includes sex not a sex fantasy that has a plot. If you are a fan of any soap opera you kind of have the gist of the story. The major difference is how intellectually written and believable the characters are and how well the story just works.

From the beginning the story will suck you in and whirl you around as you alternate between rooting for the lead characters and wondering whether they actually LIKE the predicaments they keep getting themselves into. From the fashion world to the elevated levels of the law then plunging deep into the belly of underworld crime the reader is carried along through the rapids and, yes, the reader does get a little wet!

The basic plot reads like any daytime show:
We are introduced to a woman who is getting on in years and still hasn't convinced her super, fabulously wealthy benefactor to leave his dumpy wife and handicapped son. She senses he is becoming bored with her and she is desperate. Enter a young and gorgeous fashion designer and her eager, and homosexual, business manager. Our budding fashion maven has just graduated from design school and her first "show" is a smash hit- much to the dismay of her classmate and rival, the daughter of a rock star.
The mistress latches on to the young designer and hatches an evil plan that will probably ruin the designer but will, hopefully, cause the divorce of her benefactor. The plan goes swimmingly and then it all begins to unravel. It seems the Mother of our fashion designer is a local legend in the divorce court arena and is bucking for a hefty promotion at work. She is a natural hit but her personal life is in ruins. She is divorced from her philandering husband and her kids blame her for always choosing work over them...and it goes on!

The story line is fairly predictable but this is also a big part of the charm of the book. There are a few twists that don't follow the usual path. I found the characters to be very endearing despite, or maybe because, of their obvious faults. Lots of the time I just wanted to hug them or knock their heads together! In the end just about everyone has the revenge they are looking for and the proper people end up in jail. At the end of the book I was satisfied, which is quite rare for me. I also hope there will be a sequel or three!

The book is an oversized paperback edition and the cover art is very safe for work. The art depicts a woman in a white silk dress and the title in red. There is nothing to suggest sex or alert anyone to the fact that this book does contain a bit of racy sex. In the beginning of the book there is a tiny amount of knowledge about the author and a website you can learn more.
Experience
This was part of an amazing basket I won from EdenFantasys. I wrote down what happened to us one year when our oldest daughter was two. I am told that the lovely Jaimes put together the basket for me and it was amazing! This book was the highlight and it is a real find. I am hoping that we are going to be getting more of this type of book in stock!
