Playgirl: Stripped review

If you’re a big fan of chuckles mixed in with the conventional oohs and aahs of porn, then Stripped is the perfect DVD for you. Maybe it’s because Playgirl produced it, or maybe it’s because the porn world thinks women enjoy sexual silliness. Whatever the reason, this video takes “cheesy” to a whole new level.

For starters the music and audio are very oddly arranged. Six of the eight distinct scenes begin with a voiceover briefly describing how the couple found themselves in their current sexual situation, and details what is about to happen. Then the music takes over. It starts off softly but switches tempo mid-scene every time the actors take things to the next level.

I found these switches very distracting, and the choice of music often made me laugh right out loud. To top off the audio weirdness, the actors’ moans, groans and other sex noises are edited out until the very end so that all you hear of the actual actors are their orgasms. Since I really like hearing the natural sounds of sex this aspect of the video didn’t appeal to me at all.

On the other hand, the visuals and story lines are fun. Interesting sets, nice lighting and average-looking actors make the scenes entertaining. One of my favorite fantasies involved a female scientist who creates her ideal sex machine and tests him out for the first time. Another is of a realtor and a potential buyer who make the most of their alone time in someone else’s house. Each of the scenes are kept light-hearted, and many of them end with a some kind of very bad joke.

The sex itself is very predictable, especially if you watch the DVD straight through rather than just watching one scene at a time. With the exception of two male masturbation scenes, all of them follow the same pattern: kissing, undressing, oral sex for her, oral sex for him, vaginal sex, and cum shot somewhere on her body. So if you like spicy porn with lots of positions, light BDSM, anal sex, etc. then you’ll probably find this video pretty boring.

The DVD did have some notable bonus features such as a photo gallery of stills from the scenes, a 15-minute "bonus" sexual encounter in a dingy warehouse that's certainly worth a look, a behind the scenes sneak peek, and a music video. Unfortunately there are no extra language features...but then again, does sex really need translating?

Overall Stripped was OK.

There were a few notably exciting moments, but there were also moments when I debated turning it off all together. If you’ve never watched porn before and are a little intimidated by the idea, then this is a great DVD to start with. But if you’re used to porn or like your porn to have a rougher/serious edge, then I recommend skipping this one completely.
