Pros:
Smart, creative, sexy.
Cons:
The only story I didn't care for at all was, oddly enough, Bussel's own story.

somewhat useful review
Warm, hilarious, and blazingly sexy - those are the best adjectives for this collection. It's hard to believe that there's anything out there we haven't already done and written about, but editor Rachel Kramer Bussel has put together an anthology both hot and original. I knew when I ordered the book that Bussel had a reputation in the erotic literature community, but until I read this anthology, I didn't know what that meant.

It's not for women who don't like explicit sex or who dislike being uncomfortable once in a while. The writers take the premise, female domination, and spin it out into wild and creative scenarios, many unbelievable but all of them erotic.

I was afraid, going in, that the scenes would be standard S&M fare - whips to the balls, clothespins to the nipples, stuff that does little for me. But the stories get at the heart of female domination, which is the erotic exchange of power between men and women, the fact that sometimes a girl likes to get on top and use a man's body for her own pleasure. The writers celebrate the power trip but manage to respect the men they abuse. It's a difficult but important balance.

The stories run the gamut. The funny and sexy heroine of "Suit and Tie" opens the anthology by bending her married boss to her kinky will. A professional dominatrix gets the thrill of her life in "The Mistress Meets her Match" when she falls for a man who won't be dominated. In one of my personal favorites, "Why Can't I Be You?" the main character switches roles with her hot boyfriend. The swap only lasts for a night, but the intimacy of wanting to be inside someone else's skin; that's what makes the story powerful.

There's kinkier fun to be had in "Room 2201," when a beautiful woman gets off on watching her boyfriend have sex with another man, and in the hilarious "Feeder," the protagonist proves that there really is nothing as American as apple pie. The last story, "The Queening Chair," is so intense I can't describe it, except to say that I had to read it in installments. Even weeks afterward, remembering that dialog made me shiver in my swivel chair.

By and large, this book (She's On Top|She's On Top - Erotic books - Erotic fiction) is an eye opening, smartly written collection that will fire the imagination and wet the panties of any kinky or kinky curious woman. Highly recommended!
