Sex Parties 101 review

Sex Parties 101 is the definitive guide both to attending and organizing your very own orgy.  The author, Simon Sheppard, makes no attempt to convince his readers that they should partake in orgies, but if they decide to do so, this book will help make the experience awesome for everyone involved.

The book takes you through all the stages and considerations in planning a sex party.  You will find out different types of parties, tips on the best locations...even thoughts on such esoteric considerations as lighting and space management.

I really appreciated the book's honest discussions about safer sex and liability for the party's host. While it would be nice to think that we could have strangers over to our houses for playtime without worry about risking our health (or that Grandma's sterling silver might walk off with a guest), that's probably not realistic.  Sex Parties 101 lays out some common-sense suggestions on how to reduce risks both to your body and your property.  There are also sections on dealing with smoking, substance use, consent, hygiene and dress codes; all valuable information for orgy neophytes. 

Sheppard's tone is both in-your-face and humorous.  He mixes his own anecdotes with stories from his friends and general observations about what works and what doesn't at the parties he's attended.

Keep in mind that Sheppard writes mostly about parties attended by gay men.  There's a lot in Sex Parties 101 that would apply to every sex party, but the vast majority of his stories, hints and how-tos focus on gatherings for men.

If you are looking for a book that will help you gently morph your bi-monthly couples-only evenings of barbecue and Scattergories with the neighbors into fuck fests, Sex Parties 101 is probably not the book for you. 

However, if you are a serious slut fixin' to throw a seriously naughty affair, Sheppard's book will help you do it up right.
