I've read plenty of erotica in my time, and one of the major pitfalls I've experienced is the tendency of some erotica writers to skimp on the story and just jump right to the sex. Either that, or they spend all of their time and vocabulary building up to the sex, falling woefully short once they get to the good stuff.

Thankfully, the writers whose works appear in this volume seem to have successfully avoided this habit. Susie Bright has done a fantastic job of choosing stories for this volume, resulting in a nearly perfect balance of flowery, descriptive sexual conquests (such as the language used by a character who waxes eloquent on the topic of his lover's ass, in the story titled "The End") and down 'n dirty fucking (as displayed in "Every Good Boy Deserves Favours", a delightful story featuring a kinky music teacher and her creative teaching methods.)

Some of the stories in this book prove that even the shortest escapades can bring great satisfaction. My personal favorite, "Beatingz R Me", is only two pages long, yet in my opinion is one of the most enjoyable selections. (Of course, it helped that the story fits into one of my favorite niches...)

In terms of fetishes, most readers will likely find something in the book's pages to satisfy them. Unlike so many erotica collections, this one caters to a wide variety of sexual peccadilloes, so boredom is not an issue (or at least it wasn't for this reviewer!)

In short, this book was a great read, and I'd recommend it to anyone who perhaps has not ventured far into the realm of erotica and is looking to get their feet wet. Unlike so many other volumes of erotica, it will not turn you off of the genre before you're able to give it a fair shake.

I wonder if American erotica has some specific characteristics? I just find the title choice to be odd.

I find snippets to be useful, maybe you could add some to future book reviews and perhaps outline some stories in more detail.

I am pretty sure that the "American" descriptor is referring to the authors themselves, not to any particular characteristics of the erotica.
