The Best Sex Positions Ever review

The Best Sex Positions Ever is not a bad book; I just think the title and presentation are a bit misleading. This is really more of a sex manual than a book of sexual positions. The book boasts to have over 75 sexual positions, but personally, I do not consider “cunnilingus” or “anal sex” or “whips and chains” to be actual positions. Sexual acts, definitely, but not positions. So I was somewhat disappointed this book did not offer what I expected.

The book is very nicely produced, in a large format with modern, explicit but tasteful color pictures and glossy pages. The book is divided into an “Introduction,” “Foreplay Fun,” “In the Bedroom,” “Acrobatic Moves,” “Location, Location, Location,” and “Taking It Further.” Foreplay Fun deals with suggestions like staring into each other’s eyes, kissing, and sensual massage—again, good topics for a sex manual, but hardly “positions.” In the Bedroom and Acrobatic Moves do finally deal with sexual positions, though many of them are quite repetitive, and effectively feature the same position with alternate partners doing the work. Location, Location, Location is a combination of sexual positions and ideas for new locations in which to try them out. And Taking It Further deals with topics like anal sex and mild bondage.

Each position or suggestion is illustrated with a full-color and attractive picture of racially mixed couples demonstrating the current act. There is a fair amount of text accompanying each suggestion, but it is often only mildly useful and not terribly entertaining to read. It also offers nothing in terms of variations for homosexual couples. The book does have entertaining names for each position, and even discusses the corresponding names in the Kama Sutra or The Perfumed Garden, where applicable.

The Best Sex Positions Ever is a very nicely produced book that would be very pleasant to browse as a couple, and could definitely liven up an unadventurous sex life. The book is tastefully done and not likely to offend many sensibilities—well, at least not those seeking out a sex manual in the first place! However, it is hardly a collection of exciting and new sex positions for the sexually adventurous.
