Urban Tantra - guides to a better sex by Celestial Arts - review by Jessica Elizabeth

I had no experience with Tantra before reading this book. The author; Barbara Carrellas, was very thorough and wrote this book as a good intro book. She has much experience in Tantra, having put on workshops, writing at least one other book, and also an audio tape series on the subject.

The writing style is engaging, informative, no-nonsense and is written in a introductory style. In my opinion, Carrellas wrote this book as if the person reading it has absolutely no prior knowledge to Tantra. I think if you are already very familiar with Tantra, its principles and practices, unless you're wanting to specifically get this author's take on it, this book may be too beginner for you. However, if you're new to Tantra and wanting to learn a style of it that we can fit into our hectic modern lifestyle, this book is totally for you!

She also does not write it in a conversational style. It's more of an informal educational style.

The book is sectioned off into 5 parts, and then sectioned further down into sub-sections for each part. The author talks about everything from finding time to put Tantric practices in your daily life to chakras to including Tantra into your BDSM practices. She also includes sections about safer sex, ensuring everything is consensual and the fact that everybody is different and we all experience sex differently. The sections make sense and go together well.

I love this book. If you are wanting to add something "more" to your sex life then this book is perfect for you. It's well written, easy to understand and very engaging.

It can be a bit much though, I do not think this book is one you can sit down and read cover to cover in one sitting. She has many exercises to do to help illustrate points, as well as the fact that it's very information heavy.

Carellas wrote this book with exercises in it, to help illustrate the points she was making and also to help illustrate the different parts of Tantra. She made sure to write it so that you can go at your own pace, or do it in whatever order you want. However she did write it in a specific order so that you are able to build upon each part with the following skill/ability.

It is so worth the money!
