extremely useful review
“Fetish Sex” by Violet Blue|Fetish Sex by Violet Blue is an excellent and non-judgmental introduction to the world of fetish. It is a useful book for the merely curious, and for those trying to understand their own or a lover’s fetish. The book combines intelligent discussion of fetishes with short vignettes that illustrate some of the more common fetishes.

The first chapter is dedicated to exploring and defining the concept of “fetish.” Chapters 2 and 3 cover working fetishes into play with a partner, and dealing with some of the difficulties of fantasy or “impossible” fetishes.

The following chapters focus on specific fetishes and ways of practicing them: role-play, fetish dressing, human animals, cross-dressing and sissies, and medical play and adult babies, and fetishes involving specific parts of the human body. There is also a section that lists and explains a world of fetishes--from foot worship to scat play to hair fetish to smearing your body in messy substances or sitting on cheesecakes. The book finishes up with a valuable section for rules on fetish play, and a fairly comprehensive resource section for fetishists, divided by chapter and type of fetish.

The book is clear and easy to read, and quite informative. My favorite aspect of the book is that it treats all fetishes with respect and does not deride any of them. Adult babies and pony play are given the same respect as corset fetish, the author’s own weakness. Even fetishes like necrophilia and zoophilia are not treated with disdain, just a warning that these fetishes are most often illegal. She demonstrates that most fetishes can be boiled down to dominance, submission, or the opportunity to pamper or be papered and cared for or admired.

The resources section of the book is quite comprehensive--it includes everything from more books for further reading to websites, blogs, shopping resources and fan/support groups.

Overall, I think “Fetish Sex” by Violet Blue is an excellent introduction to the world of fetish|BDSM and fetish stories for those who would like to understand more about this form of sexuality. It is well-written, quite informative, and always respectful.
Experience
I really like to experiment, but I have yet to find one particular thing that really “does it” for me. My husband, on the other hand, has several pronounced fetishes, so we read this as a couple for me to try to gain a better understanding of why he likes what he likes. His fetishes are mostly dressing fetishes--he goes wild over stockings and corsets, two things I HATE to wear. This book has helped me understand why he has the desires he does, and hopefully will enhance our sex lives in the future. If I can better understand his fetishes, the more willing (and eager) I will be to accommodate them!

Also, you could just suggest that he wear stockings and corsets for a couple days, so he can better understand you...

I did dress him up in drag one year for Halloween and made him wear them, along with 4" heels (he's 6'2" and a big guy, so you can imagine that).  He maintains the material feels great and they were really comfortable.  So that's an argument I'm bound to always lose!

Sounds pretty interesting.  I might have to give this one a look!  Nice review!

Thanks, Oggins!  It's not the most comprehensive or psychologically deep book ever written, but it's definitely a good introduction.  I don't think I'm vanilla by any means, but I learned about some fetishes I didn't even know existed!

Yeah this book is fun, not only was it a pleasure reading about my own personal fetishes, but also discovering new ones that i now enjoy to this day (such as adult baby, and even delving into other beasty characters in my animal training, like "piggy play" for instance) hehe. My man also loves corsets, stockings, and panties, which i ABSOLUTELY love! Fetishes are fun!

Foxxy Kitty - She mentioned "piggy play" in the book, but didn't really get into it.  That's one on which I wouldn't have minded reading more.  Ah well, I guess there's always Google; and I  have Midori's "The Book of Kink" next on my reading list, so maybe she'll have something about it in there.  Thanks for the comments!

Correction:  Midori's book is properly entitled "Wild Side Sex: The Book Of Kink."  Just wanted to clarify.  Damn, I need to stop posting at 3 or 4 a.m.

To Dame and anyone else who's interested: Piggy play (and kitty play) is not that popular in the realm of animal training, so don't expect to find a plethora of information about it from a book. In my opinion, the imagination and just keeping in the mindset of a pig is really all there is to know what piggy play is all about. Basically, the entire chapter on animal training in this book speaks for any type of animal character you are exploring, its all the same concept, but can fiercely be played out in so many creative and kinky ways.

It's a much deeper world than I originally thought.  There's even a website dedicated to making anatomically correct animal-penis dildos: [https://www.zoofur.com/animalp.html

Hehe oh yeah, the animal training world is one of my ultimate passions when fetishes are concerned, I'm glad that you are interested Demi! It doesn't have to all be as deep (or expensive) as it seems. I think animal training is one of those roleplaying games that can truly be an intoxicating, freaky, and imaginative experience. Take it wherever you want it to, make your own rules, etc. Have fun!

Will do!  Kind of stumbled across that one by accident, but I never know what I'm going to find when I'm surfing!

Hehe god bless the internet and all the interesting, strange, pornographic related sites we can find on it.

I love Violet Blue! She can do no wrong.

Epiphora, I loved her "The Ultimate Guide To Sexual Fantasy" as well.  She's very "user friendly" to those of us not in highly alternative lifestyles.  I'm currently reading a book by Midori, who's a little more hardcore, in my opinion.

This book sounds really good both by you and Foxxy Kitty. How'd you like the book by Midori?
  • Contributor: Dame Demi
I'm actually on an extended vacation visiting my parents right now and am going to write a review of the Midori book when I get home (no privacy to do it at the parents', since I want to actually have the book in front of me). Since I am particularly interested in fetish, this book was more useful to me than Midori's since it covered a broader spectrum of fetish. On the plus side, Midori's book focuses alot on the psychological aspects of just a few fetishes, which was enlightening, and does provide a brief synopsis of some common fetishes in the last section. Both are worth reading, but I think this one is a more newbie-friendly introduction to the general concept of fetish and what it means.
