The Flintstones XXX parody by New Sensations - review by Champagne and Benzedrine (Roland Hulme)

Just in time for the 50th anniversary - and the soon-to-come relaunch on Fox - is the x-rated version of the Flintstones we've all been waiting for. (We've all been waiting for it, right?)

Now I'm all for XXX parodies of classic TV shows, but even I balked at the concept of an erotic version of The Flintstones. A stone-age version of The Honeymooners, the old cartoon originally ran from 1960 to 1966 and was as clean-cut and family-friendly as they come (despite being based on a sitcom which totally normalized domestic violence - "One of these days Alice, straight to the Moon!")

But I guess the TV movie that had sexpots Kristen Johnston and Jane Krakowski as Wilma and Betty opened up the concept of a live-action Flintstones with some serious sex appeal - so perhaps it should come as no surprise that the format actually works surprisingly well in pornographic form.

Peter O'Tool and Anthony Rosano star as Fred and Barney, while Hilary Scott and Brooke Lee Adams make a very comely Wilma and Betty. Funnily enough, you don't get to see full-bodied Fred engaged in any x-rated activity - proof positive that it's not just women who have body image standards forced on them in porn.

The plot sees Fred concerned that his sexy wife is cheating on him - and much of the sex stems from his imagined couplings between her and an old school friend who's come to visit. The plot does leave room for Wilma and Betty to get it on, though (with much of the action focused on stone-age lingerie) and Pebbles and Bam Bam get in on the act (in their teenage incarnations, for anybody who is concerned.)

It's all simple, silly, straightforward fun - but very well executed and performed. Peter O'Tool and Anthony Rosano live up to what seems to be the standard in porn parody - executing their roles with vigor and gusto that live-action TV and movie stars failed to live up to in the big budget 'real thing.' Brooke Lee Adams is also scintillating at Betty - totally nailing her Marilyn Monroe-esque tones.

And despite the perennial porn problem of zero budget, New Sensations manage to bring The Flintstones to life with a pretty awesome set. They totally recreate the Flintstone's house, and their iconic foot-fueled car.

All in all, this is a faithful, earnest, well-produced pornographic parody that should satisfy anybody who wants to get their erotic hijinks with a healthy dose of TV nostalgia. If I have any criticism it's that The Flintstones XXX really doesn't push the envelope in any way; delivering exactly what fans should expect, without going that extra mile to deliver anything more.
