A Creamy Massage

While Shunga has it's nice points, overall I wouldn't buy it again. Shunga just doesn't last long enough, requires too much re-application, and the "pro" of the nice smell is dependent on the user, making this a buy I just don't find worthwhile.

Use

Shunga Massage Cream is definitely "creamy," as the name implies. This massage aid is slightly thicker than what I'd expect from a massage lotion, and has a strong, sweet scent.

I personally love this product whether using it for a sensual massage, a rub-down when I'm feeling under the weather, or any other occasion. I'd suggest using Shunga to create some romance by giving a soothing massage. The scent is relaxing, the cream is easy to use, and what better way to say you care than by giving a massage?

Texture / Consistency / Thickness / Viscosity

As opposed to some massage oils and lotions, Shunga is very creamy and dense. While the consistency produces a wonderfully relaxing feeling when rubbed on your skin, a downside of the thickness is the cream's tendency to clump and dry up with rubbing--thus creating a need for frequent application.

The cream also can be slightly messy because of the clumps and because it is a little greasy, so I would recommend using it without clothes and on a surface you don't mind dirtying (for example: old bed sheets).
Besides the denseness and greasiness, Shunga feels amazing when used for massages and is easy to get out of the container, making spontaneous massages easy.

Taste / Aroma

The raspberry scent of Shunga is deliciously sweet like candy, however those sensitive to smells might be put off. The raspberry is very strong, and the smell will remain for a few hours after use--though for me personally this was not a problem as I found the smell quite pleasant.

On a side note, Shunga is not a flavored cream and is not meant to be ingested. While the cream smells like it would taste great, it would likely be like eating scented shampoo--far from pleasant.
    • Smells good
    • Strong smell

Performance

As I mentioned before, the thickness of Shunga makes it prone to clumping and drying up, and thus has to be reapplied frequently throughout use. I found myself adding more cream every 5-10 minutes while giving and receiving massages. After the cream dries, it does leave the skin feeling a bit greasy, and the clumped cream tends to flake off onto the surface you are lying/sitting on. Clean-up will require a shower for the receiver of the massage and a laundry run if you've used any fabric as a surface for the massage.
    • Dries up too fast
    • Needs to be washed off with soap and water
    • Reapply often

Packaging

The container for Shunga is sexy and definitely implies a massage on the more sensual side. The image of the man and woman in what looks like a heated moment is not discreet.

The container is fine for travel (I know I've taken it to a hotel without problem) as the lid stays sealed tight and does not leak.
    • Easy to use / dispense
    • Not discreet
    • Travel friendly

Not flavored? This cream is advertised as being "edible." That stinks if it isn't flavored, was looking forward to the flavor.

@Danielle915,

Let me correct myself. The cream IS flavored, however the taste is not pleasant, and like I said, is more like shampoo than raspberry.

Yeah, I was really excited about it at first too, but it's just not that great for giving massages--maybe as a lotion instead.

I'd suggest searching for a massage oil instead. Those wont dry up, and while they are equally messy, they feel incredible!

Thanks for the great review. I enjoy more "candy like" things and thus will likely enjoy these. Am ordering some. The messy part does not bother us, we use a Liberator Thro and those wash up SO nice.

  • Does the Shunga massage cream smell like yogurt?
    • I've tried the Kama Sutra Body Souffle's and they smell like yogurt. Do these smell like that too? Or are these more sugary/candy like? I really don't like the yogurty smell, it's just not my thing. Also when you rub this in does it start to pill up like the Kama Sutra does? Thanks.
    • In general Shunga products are more candy like than Kama Sutra's. The one I have from Shunga, the cherry one, doesn't smell like yogurt at all. To me it smelled (and tasted) a lot like candy, you can read my review on it here. This one seems to soak in like a regular lotion would, only it tastes better.
    • I don't think they smell like yogurt! I found raspberry kiss, vanilla, and cherry scents in this body butter quite enjoyable!
