A hot mess that smells like cake.

A delicious-smelling candle with a long life. It's perfect for couples that want to set aside a nice amount of time to give massages to each other.

Use

I really love playing with hot wax, both sexually and just poking at it after I've blown candles out. My partner and I really love giving each other back rubs. I thought this candle would be a good beginning to introducing other, more painful types of candles and wax into our life. (It was!) This is a non-threatening massage candle. You light it for about 20 minutes, blow it out, and enjoy the melted massage oil.

So far it has proven effective. It's great to use after one of us has been working too hard and sets the mood for some sensual sexy time when we've both got the energy. Sometimes I melt a little and use it as lotion when I want a new smell. Shunga has created a diverse candle.

I'm not sure if it's safe to use massage oil that is soy-based if you have a soy allergy. The packaging has no warnings aside from general candle safety. Hopefully that means it's okay. The other ingredients are coconut oil, fragrance, almond oil, safflower oil, avocado oil, sesame oil, grapeseed oil, and vitamin E.

Even though the candle is safe and more body-friendly than some big name lubes, I was uncomfortable getting this too close to my lady parts. The initial greasy feeling was a little unpleasant between my legs.

Texture / Consistency / Thickness / Viscosity

When melted, the candle has the consistency of oil. It's not grainy or sticky and is easier to pour. Right after extinguishing the candle, the wax does NOT stay put. I wish the spoon was deeper so that it would be easier to get the amount you wish to use in one go. Unless you wait for the wax to cool down, you have to do a few spoonfuls and place them towards the middle of your partner's back so that they don't slide away.

If you wait for it to cool, which doesn't feel as nice for the recipient, the consistency is similar to lotion.

Taste / Aroma

I usually love vanilla flavored things but can't stand scents that smell like food. They're usually too strong or smell sticky-sweet.

This candle is a perfect vanilla scent. It's light and smells exactly like birthday cake ice cream. I didn't feel the need to shower off afterwards, and the aroma hardly lingers. The only time I smelled vanilla the day after use was when I took off my shirt to shower. We got the wax all over our bed and neither of us noticed an odor in the next few days.

The tin doesn't do a good job of containing the smell, so you might notice it hanging around more if you keep it out in the open. Mine lives in the mini fridge by the bed because soy melts at such a low temperature. I haven't noticed any of the food absorbing the smell, probably because I'm keeping the candle so chilly.

Performance

Even though the candle is greasy to begin with, it does completely absorb into your skin with time. It's a strange combination of light and greasy. Messy people don't need to avoid this candle. Large drips will dry and can easily be peeled off of cotton sheets. The wax also doesn't stain or leave a residue on the inside of t-shirts. If you're in a pinch for time, any grease can be easily removed from skin with soap and water.

I really enjoy the scent and the warmth, but I think I would prefer regular massage oil. I have to store the candle cold so the wick doesn't get lost in the wax. This adds about ten more minutes to my burn time. Half an hour is a long time to wait for a nice massage after work.

A lid that snaps shut and fits more tightly would be great for shipping, too. Even though it arrived leaky, I still think this candle will last me for a long time. Three massages have hardly put a dent in the 200 milliliters of wax.

Packaging

My candle arrived like this:


There was a giant grease spot on the box, but nothing else in my order was ruined. I wouldn't recommend ordering this while it's warm outside. The wick sunk to the bottom. I let it sit on a sunny windowsill so I could dig it back out. My candle surgery was a success, so I sent my patient into the mini fridge to recover.

The container has remained greasy as can be, and no amount of wiping has managed to clean it off.

This is what I came home to the other day. My boyfriend had gotten so annoyed with the candle dropping ash into the wax, which resulted in black smudges all over my back, that he melted the offending black bits into the bottom of the container. I don't recommend anybody else do this, but it was a good way to even out the candle again after a lot of use. Leaving it in the freezer after had no ill effects.

Yes, that is the label after he had burned half of it off.

It doesn't look like we still really like this candle, but we do. Even though sometimes we try to set the entire thing on fire.

Yeah, it has to melt at a low temperature so you can use it for massages. A nice idea, but a bad purchase for summer time.

Yeah, that's the danger of ordering a massage candle when it's warm outside. They melt at REALLY low temps (90 deg or so).

      The wax melts into a massage oil. The spoon is to scoop out the warm oil for use. I love massage candles, they are SO awesome.
