A massage therapist's take on KamaSutra's Sensual Massage Oil
This is a good overall oil. It glides well, and shouldn't go rancid on you anytime soon. You won't feel greasy for hours, but it won't absorb so quickly that you can't massage with it either. If you only want natural ingredients, you might look somewhere else because this one has quite a few synthetic ingredients.Published: December 17, 2010
Pros:
glides well, absorbs well,
Cons:
the smell can be a turn off
I received this massage oil as a gift from my sweetie. I was excited because I am pretty obsessed with massage oils, and love trying out new ones.
When I saw that my oil said it was sweet almond oil, I was expecting simply a bottle of sweet almond oil because it is a very common oil in massage. Normally, sweet almond oil has very little scent so I was surprised when I put a little on my hand and it smelled like almond extract. It wasn't an overwhelming scent, but it did not smell natural to me. I am very picky about scents, and this one just didn't do it for me.
When I looked at the ingredients, I realized that it was actually a blend of carrier oils and not just a bottle of sweet almond oil with some fragrance. The carrier oils in this are soybean oil, grapeseed oil, pistacia vera seed oil (I believe this is pistachio oil), and sweet almond oil. So, if you are allergic to nuts you will want to skip this oil. These are all light to medium weight oils which means that they are less "greasy" than other oils and will absorb slightly faster. There are also some preservatives in this oil, which I felt were unnecessary since the oils tend to have long shelf lives anyway. I wouldn't use this as a lube, due to some of the ingredients that are in it.
The glide of this oil is good. It's a pretty standard massage oil, so you should be able to get a good massage in, without reapplying too often. Since it is an oil and not a lotion, you don't need to use very much. Since oils are light, they will absorb fairly quickly. If you have oily skin to begin with you may feel greasy for a time, but for me they absorbed into my skin in about 20 minutes. My boyfriend has very dry skin so it didn't last as long on him. Your skin will feel soft and moisturized with this. There is no stickiness, or anything like that, with this oil, and it doesn't clump up like lotions sometimes can.
I don't believe this is a water-dispersible oil, so you may want to be careful using too much in the bedroom. Massage oil can be difficult to wash out of sheets and can occasionally stain, though I haven't had too much trouble with this particular oil.
Other good uses for the oil would be as a moisturizer, or as a bath oil. It will leave your skin feeling soft, and if you like the scent you can use this oil in instead of a perfume.

Experience
We like to put some oil in a small bowl and heat it up in the microwave for a few seconds. The heated oil makes a great massage feel even better.
I would also recommend keeping the bottle upright when you're not using it. The oil can sometimes leak from the container.

Sensual Massage Oil- What the heck do they smell like?
-
Sensual Massage oil has a nice little selection of scents...
Here's the problem- There are 5 scents to choose from, but no way to know what each one smells like! There is no description of any kind! And most of the names (Pleasure Garden, Healing Blend, Serenity and soaring Spirit) give no hint as to what scents they include!
Does anyone know of a website/page that describes each scent option better than EF's product page? -

I read the first 3 reviews that had been posted on this product, and was discouraged when they didn't describe all 5 scents. After reading your response, I decided to go through and read every review for this product, in search of descriptions.

"~Purple- Healing Blend
"Rich blend of essential oils for soothing muscles and restoring harmony."
This scent is very relaxing and warm. This is a great scent for when you want to relax and unwind. It has elemi, clary sage, clove, and nutmeg. It's a warm and sensuous nutmeg/clove scent. It makes you feel warm and sleepy.
~Turquoise- Soaring Spirit
"Invigorating blend of pure essential oils to energize and refresh."
This scent contains scent notes of citrus, geranium, ginger and fennel. This scent makes you feel clean and awake! To me it smells like strong peppermint.
~Orange- Sweet Almond
"Sensual combination of calming oils for relaxation and de-stressing."
This one smells exactly like almond extract. I love that smell! It contains the oils of sweet almonds, vitamin E, and skin smoothing emollients.
~Green- Pleasure Garden
"Aromatic mix of pure essential oils for sensual and seductive intimacy."
This one contains oils from Italian bergamot, ylang ylang, neroli, rose, lavender, and sandalwood. To me it smells like a sexy blend of sandalwood and lavender. It's very warm and cozy.
~Blue- Serenity
"Soothing mixture of pure essential oils for quieting body and soul."
It contains oils from warm cedar, sweet marjoram, orange, and lavender. I think this one smells the lightest and kinda smells like a mix of sweet almond and healing blend. It doesn't smell unique. It's a very relaxing scent and it's the lightest."

"The sweet almond is the most simple of the oils. While the Pleasure Garden is italian jasmine, rose, lavender and sandalwood; the Soaring Spirit is fruity with orange, lemon, peppermint, spearmint, geranium, ginger and fennel; and the Healing Blend is more of a woodsy smell with lavender, cardamom, rosemary, marjoram, elemi, clary sage, black pepper, clove, nutmeg, juniper and pine."
I wanted to share those two descriptions, in case someone else is wondering what they smell like and (like me) doesn't think to read through ALL the reviews for a description. :)

Thank you for viewing Sensual massage oil review page!

It has a tendency to irritate broken skin or rashy skin where a blended massage oil with less synthetic oils and fragrances won't.
Thanks for the professional take on this lovely oil!
Wonderful job on the review. Welcome to Eden!
Yes I should have mentioned more about sensitivities. I usually tend to go for the more natural stuff myself, but then again I have much more exposure to oils/creams than the average person.
Thank you for the review!
Good point on the nut allergies!
I REALLY enjoyed your take on this. I recently received the same product and I do enjoy the almond extract scent but I noticed it changed after application.. turning almost like baby powder. Ick
Thanks Adriana! yeah I'm really picky about scents, and this one didn't really do it for me. Maybe sometime I'll try some of the other scents to see if I like them better
Thanks for the review! I like the tip about warming it up a bit!
