A warm and spicy and everything nice-y massage
Published: June 19, 2009
extremely useful review
This high quality massage lotion starts out light and creamy and absorbs well, leaving skin silky and smooth. The warming sensation increases with rubbing, leading to a pleasurable massage. A noticeable and unique aroma intensifies with use and is an earthy mix created by the all the natural oils and extracts that give this lotion its appeal and natural warming abilities. It is also paraben-free, glycerin-free and vegan.
Pros:
Silky, subtle warming, smells unique and spicy, discreet, quality ingredients
Cons:
Some people may not like the smell, might not have enough of a warming tingle for some

Use
This is definitely a great lotion for massage, particularly on areas like the back, legs, shoulders and arms. It works well for couples massage as it comes across as a completely gender neutral product with a soothing scent and feel. The lotion is not runny, so you can use it in bed without making a mess. It has a wealth of aromatic natural oils in the ingredients and therefore cannot be used with condoms and should not be used internally. It is best for massage, not used as a lubricant. It also is paraben-free, glycerin-free, vegan and pH balanced.
Texture / Consistency / Thickness / Viscosity
The lotion has the consistency of a body butter type product, thick and creamy but still light. It squeezes out of the tube easily but does not squirt - which is a plus. It was easy to spread onto my husband's skin and stayed in place until I rubbed it around and into his skin. I used it on my legs and arms as well, and it feels creamy when first applying then turns into a silky smooth feeling after absorbed.
Taste / Aroma
It's strange to try to explain this - but it started out smelling vaguely of sunscreen somewhat. Then as it warmed in my hands and on the skin, I could really smell the clove, bergamot, cinnamon, rosewood and lavender oils - they really mingle and waft into the air. This lotion contains no synthetic fragrances. The longer I used it, the better and stronger it smelled. It has a deliciously spicy smell - I actually kept smelling my hands because I liked it so much! Imagine all the best smells of autumn - an earthy and exotic mix.
Performance
We didn't have to reapply because I used the lotion in each area as I massaged, and I liked it better as it started to absorb into the skin.
The warming aspect of this lotion is noticeable but not intense. It is a subtle warming, not a tingling or burning. I think the warming is more activated by rubbing, not blowing (as with some lotions)- it is likely because of the natural properties in the oils that the warmth of your hands and the friction would make it work better. This would be good for someone who wanted a mild warming lotion. The sensation did improve the experience and I was not disappointed - actually, I was initially concerned before using the lotion that it might be too strong of a warming sensation, and was pleased that it was not.
This is not the kind of lotion you'll want to wash off, it makes skin silky smooth and wonderfully fragrant. If you really don't like the spicy / earthy scent, you would easily be able to wash it off with soap in the shower.

Packaging
The packaging is really chic. The box discreet, stylish and wouldn't be out of place on the shelf of most retailers that sell body products.
The box has just the tube of lotion and a sheet of instructions inside. The instructions list the ingredients, their benefits, suggestions for use, storage instructions and even mentions that the product packaging was made with recycled materials - very thorough!
The tube is sturdy and not the kind that starts to collapse when not full. It has a flip-top lid with an indent and ridge for easy opening, even with lotion-y hands. The tube is also discreet; it says Jimmyjane vertically and has a vague blurb about the lotion. It could easily be left out on a night-stand or dresser top.

Special Features
The warming sensation is really nice - subtle but still enough to enhance a massage.
Personal comments
I love this lotion. I definitely see myself using it alone just for a luxurious treat after shaving my legs or before bed. I even tried it on my feet and elbows.
Experience
I used the lotion first on my husband then on myself. He liked it - he said it was nice that it wasn't runny or cold. He commented on the smell getting stronger and asked if I was using too much - he was surprised how it seemed to activate as I rubbed his back.
I liked the way it felt as the giver of the massage, not too slippery but more velvety or silky.
And once I used it on myself, I loved the way it felt. Silky without a hint of greasiness.
The smell may not be for everyone - my husband said "eggnog, holidays, Halloween, pumpkin pie" and that he doesn't hate it but he doesn't love it.

Every review I read of these jj massage products makes me want to have them allll.
I love spicy scents so this is definitely going on my wishlist.
Super display of how well the new review format can work, too!
Thanks! I wanted to be thorough with my review
This lotion is totally worth it - I didn't just give it 5 stars because I work for Eden. It's a really natural feel and scent.
I'd like to try this as well - I love the stuff of jjs that I've tried so far
Hmm, recycled packaging? I think...that I need this.
This stuff sounds great! I second Carrie Ann's comment about the new review format -- very thorough and helpful. From the way you described the scent, it made me wonder if there were any mini-pearls containing the oil in the lotion. Is the lotion completely homogeneous? I thought maybe the extra rubbing could have released the oil from little micropearls (like in certain chewing gums, lol).
