(Acai) It doesn't plump, but my lips are so soft!

I wasn't expecting much from this lip balm but I was pleasantly surprised! It moisturizes my lips, lasts a long time, feels melty/soft, and feels slightly tingly. It wasn't strong enough to actually plump my lips but that's ok with me. The acai passion fruit scent smells fruity and slightly bitter. As a lip balm it works really well and I definitely plan on purchasing more!

Use

Dona lip balm is similar to a chapstick that can be applied as often as you want. It moisturizes and softens your lips making them kissably soft and velvety to the touch. This lip balm isn't just for women, I think that anyone could use this lip balm and really enjoy it. The packaging is classy and pretty but there's nothing sexual about it. You could give it as a gift to any friend or family member and they wouldn't know where it came from unless they are already informed about the SystemJO brand. I think I could easily get away with giving this to my mom or close friends and they wouldn't suspect a thing.

I've been using this lip balm multiple times a day and my lips feel a lot softer! I added this to my cart because it was very inexpensive and I was a little curious about it. Now that I've tried one I feel like I want to get more because this lip balm is that good. I'm glad I decided to try it!

Texture / Consistency / Thickness / Viscosity

The balm itself feels very soft, melty, and slightly oily. It's not as waxy as EOS balms or Bonne Belle. It melts into your lips and leaves a slick feeling. It's wonderful! The balm is a milky yellowish color. It's not sticky at all so if you hate sticky lip products then you'll really enjoy this. The balm goes on clear and lasts for at least an hour and even longer! It really is a great lip balm. It moisturizes your lips and leaves them feeling smooth and soft.

Taste / Aroma

If you don't know already the actual flavors are labeled on the lip balms and don't necessarily match up with what you think you're getting. For example, acai is actually passion fruit, blue lotus is blue lotus sorbet, goji berry is peach melba, pomegranate is pomegranate martini, mangosteen is mangosteen delight, and camucamu is lemon drop. Just make sure you look at the up close photos first before placing your order to make sure you're getting the ones you want and you aren't being misled.

I got the passion fruit flavor. The lip balm doesn't actually have a flavor to it at all so I guess it's more like the scent. It smells dark and fruity similar to pomegranates/grapes/blackberries with a slight bitterness to it that's slightly unpleasant. I know this might sound weird but sometimes when I eat grapes I peel the skin off with my teeth and chew on the skin before actually eating the grape. Am I the only one that does this? Anyways, that bitterness kind of reminds me of that same bitterness. I looked up passion fruit on google and was surprised that it actually looks similar to a grape. It's not a fake grape scent like children's medicine, it's more of a natural dark/bitter fruit scent. I hope this makes sense! What's strange is that the ingredients don't say anything about passion fruit. The only thing it says is "acai fruit, flavor."

It smells strong up close but when I wear it I don't smell it at all. There's no flavor but it feels tingly on your lips which is a nice sensation.

Performance

When I first tried this lip balm I was impressed by how it felt on my lips. It feels like it melts half way into your lips leaving just enough to make your lips feel moist and soft. It's not sticky at all. I wore it for about an hour before I needed to reapply it. It lasts a pretty long time for a lip balm! It actually helps to heal and moisturize my chapped lips rather than temporarily making them feel better and making them all dried out later. I'm definitely impressed by how this lip balm worked for me.

If you want to take it off I'd suggest just rubbing it off and then giving your lips a rinse. Even though you can rinse it away completely you'll notice how much softer your lips are afterwards!

Packaging

The lip balm didn't come in any sort of packaging at all. It was left in my box hidden underneath the brown packing paper. The lip balm case is made of black plastic with a matte paper sticker label. The label has a little bit of a velvety texture to it from the matte finish. The lip balm twists up from the bottom and looks similar to any other lip balm. I have other lip balms that look a little immature with their bright colors and big font (Bonne Belle) but this lip balm looks very grown up and sophisticated.

This lip balm could easily travel with you but you have to be cautious. The texture of the balm feels very soft and could melt easily. Don't leave it in a hot car or anywhere that's too hot. I ordered this in the summer and it's been around 80+ degrees and thankfully mine didn't melt during shipping. When I first took it out of the box it felt very warm to the touch and was slightly oily so I waited until it cooled off before using it. I'd be cautious ordering these if you're in the middle of summer and the weather is scorching hot. I think the brown packing paper helped to keep it from getting too hot but you never know.

Special Features

This lip balm claims to plump the lips. Unfortunately, it didn't plump my lips at all! It gives your lips a light tingling sensation that feels very pleasant though. If you're specifically looking for a lip balm to plump your lips you'll have to skip this one.

Personal comments

I've tried a couple of products from the Dona line and haven't been very impressed to tell you the truth. If you're curious about my other Dona reviews I've reviewed the Acai/Blue Lotus Spray Lotions and the CamuCamu Body Butter. It seems that the Dona products work well but they have minor flaws or have funky scents that make it difficult for me to love it 100%. I still think that Dona offers some great products but I still haven't found that one amazing product yet that both works perfectly and smells amazing. I wouldn't be completely discouraged from trying any of the Dona products because they work pretty well for the most part. I just can't get my nose around the strange scents that they offer.

This lip balm turned out better than I expected. I'm not in love with the passion fruit scent because it's a little too bitter but it's not bad. I'd love to try the Goji Berry (peach melba) or the Blue Lotus (blue lotus sorbet) next time! I actually liked this lip balm so much I woudln't hesitate to order another one. It works great which is most important to me. It gets the job done and keeps my lips soft for a long time!

I recently reviewed the EOS Organic Lip Balm Smooth Stick - Vanilla and it smelled great! I loved it at first which is why I gave it a 5 star rating. But after using it for weeks in a row I realized that it wasn't doing a thing for my lips and actually made them even more chapped! So when it comes down to it, EOS lip balms smell better but they are waxy and don't moisturize as well. The lip balm from Dona smells strange but they moisturize your lips for a long time, make your lips feel soft, and cost less! If I had to choose between the two I'd say the Dona lip balms are better because they work.
Follow-up commentary
I still really like this lip balm! At first the lip balm felt silky smooth but after using it for a few days I started to feel this light sandy feeling. I don't dislike it but I just thought I'd point that out. This lip balm seems really inconsistent going back and forth between sandy and silky. I feel like the sandy feeling helps to exfoliate my lips and makes them softer later so I actually like the feeling. It keeps my lips soft for a really long time and keeps them softer longer than my other lip balms. It's a winner for me!
